    You have taught your son more during the building of this cabin than he would learn in a lifetime of school and college. This was a normal father/son activity during the 1970s when I was a child. Even occasionally father/daughter activity. I spent a lot of time by my father's side, handing him tools, holding a torch, and sometimes he even allowed me to use power tools. Such valuable time and such precious memories, especially since his passing. God willing, there will be a return to these ways. It's what humanity really needs 🙏🏻

    The only thing better than having yourselves a nice little cabin, is being able to build it with your son. I did the same thing 2 years ago with my son in northern Vermont. My wife and I make the 3 hour drive from our home almost every other weekend to stay the weekend. 👍🏼👍🏼

    I kinda helped my dad build our two decks. They're some of my favorite memories. I don't think he taught me as much as you taught your son, but the exposure to it and quality time with him were great

    Awesome Cabin!
    I grew up in homes built this way. One of my cousins is still living in his families board and batten house. It's almost 100 years old now. Still standing strong.
    Looking forward to seeing what y'all do with the interior space.

    Nothing like working with your Dad I did for years and wouldn’t have it any other way-we would always put black paper under the roof metal too-this is a great video and need more stuff like this and maybe things wouldn’t be in the shape they’re in 👍

    Lucas: another fine video. I liked the car race. Who won? The one scene with the fog in the background was neat. Nothing like being at the pond early in the morning. Take care and stay safe. PS: we got a dumping of snow last night. I plowed the pond hockey rink. 🤓🤓

    It's a Great looking place to hang out...I am hoping to turn a shed into a bathroom/shower,washer/dryer, and small kitchenette on my property for wintertime (hunting season)when it's to cold to use my travel trailer.

    what a good father unfortunately i never had that experience when I was a child because my father abandoned me when I was only a baby I was raised by my grandparents but I got to experience it with my grandfather he always took me down to farm to help him shift irrigation pipes and change the electric fence and he got me to drive the tractor when i was only 3 or 4 so that he could throw out hay for the cattle

    Great build, make sure you seal that poplar very well it rots quickly outdoors.

    You forgot the slide from porch to water ?😊
    Maybe a zip line half way out , so you can fly off at end and dive in water ?😊
    And a water fall next to the cabin to feed the slid ?😊

    Were those 2 foot centers on the ceiling joists? Or more? Up here in PA we need way more support for snow load. You guys are lucky, good job!

      They are 4’ centers with 2x4 purlins on 2’ centers. I have supports inside because we built the loft so it’s pretty solid.

    I noticed that some of the floor joist is touching the ground, re you concerned about the wood getting rotten or moldy over time? If not why? Also the underside of the house is exposed to the elements, is this some special kind of wood?

      It is all treated wood, but really I should have had it up a little higher from the ground…

      I didn’t have plans. We really just kind of went for it. I had the idea in my head. We had to just adapt things along the way…

    If you're not familiar with post frame construction, that's where you put posts in the ground and hope they never rot.

      We went with 12’x20’ for the cabin with an 8’x20’ porch so the footprint is 20x20. The height is 11’ in the front and 9’ in the rear.

      The whole footprint is 20'x20'. The cabin portion is 12'x20' and the porch is 8'x20'

    I disagree with you ... that even if medle roofing may not require more support , you should support the roof with Two foot supports ...
