@@carvetiicoffee I purchase Ascaso Dream PID - full size portafilter but 14 gram basket. I was trying to figure out why it was so hard to pull shots with 16- 18 grams coffee ! Now I know.
i have been struggling on the wet puck for a long time. Many readers said there is not enough gap between the puck and the shower screen. I had tried to reduce the dose but without success. So, one day I tried to put in 18.2g on the 18g 54mm basket, it works perfectly well. This inline with your thoughts in this video 2:35'.
Thank you for a very informative video. After your advice, I upped the dose on my gaggia classic from 14g to 17g and I'm getting much better results, so simple but so effective. PS Solitude Espresso too 😆
Great to hear the videos have been of use to you and thanks for the feedback. It makes the effort worthwhile. We have some exciting news about solitude espresso in February. A new component exclusive to us - we’ve bought all the coffee from a farm😁
My rancilio Epoca has a huge headspace, I need a 15gr vst to put 18gr of coffee With the 18gr vst, huge headspace still remains and the puck is totally muddy
Thanks for sharing. It’s always interesting to find out new snippets of information like this. Never used the Epoca but keen to look into it a bit more.
@@carvetiicoffee it's a nice machine, but with a lot of frustration to learn it, and still trying to learn about it The positive is the high quality of construction Unfortunately I have to use smaller baskets for higher doses, I know that especially for vst you have to use, for example, 18gramms with the 18 basket, cause every size has different size(and number) of wholes
It’s a nice looking machine though. Ultimately it’s all about making a coffee you enjoy drinking so you have to make the changes that work for you. I have an EK43 grinder here and I have to use larger baskets for each dose. So 16g in an 18g basket. It works though.
My experience is with 53mm baskets, so pretty similar to yours. I work in the 14-16g range, usually closer to 16g and get good results. We have very soft water here which is another variable (😖). With lighter roasts I tend to find 14g is just too little and anything over 16g is too much.
at last ! I have finally received the info I have been searching for over a month! Thank you!!
You’re welcome. Just let me know if you have any questions. And thanks for the comment 👍

It’s a hugely common mistake which even within the profession. Lots of roasters specifying recipes rather than ratios. Get yourself an 18g VST basket

Hi. i have a delonghi dedica and it comes with a 51mm portafilter. How many grams of beans can i put on a Double shot basket?
Personally I would work in the 14-16g range. Definitely avoid going over 16g. Sometimes less is more 😉

For a 54mm single wall double basket what’s your recommendation on dose?
