I have been skiing for 55 years. This woman is one of the best teachers on UA-cam. Enthusiasm, knowledge, creativity, perfect demonstrations. We can all watch and learn.
Ankle flexion (Shin against the front of boot) + Hips forward + Hands forward: Thank you, Deb! That works! Great video! I wonder why I missed this one.
Such nice drill... doing this exercises offers to understand skiing! Great Deb! Children and youth need so much engaged and positive teachers, congrats!!!
Great video Deb but I can't believe you aired it with those little kids on the lift with the safety bar up. Put the bar down. One of our little racers fell out of the chair onto an ice patch a few years ago. He almost died.
Deb, what is the purpose of one ski skiing practicing? What are we trying to reinforce here to help with two ski skiing? I don't think I catch that part in the vid. Thank you.
There is one additional benefit. One ski skiing builds awareness of your inside ski. When you start to use very high edge angles, you have to be comfortable feeling and controlling your inside ski. It makes for better transitions, turn initiation, and "plan B" saves when you lose a DH edge.
Hi Deb, thank you for the video. I started watching your clips a few months back, they are great and I like your passion! I have been trying to improve my form and technique for years but progressing slowly due to age (I'm 50) and have only 6-8 ski days per season. Knowing I struggle with balancing I started looking into practicing on one ski and came to this video. My issue is: once starting to move I felt my lower leg is shaking constantly, fighting to find balance (lack of confidence I suppose) and not able to point the ski to the front. Is there any exercise or drill I can train myself to overcome this? Thanks again.
Perhaps you could start with Javelin turns. You will be switching legs with each turn, so less tiring than one ski skiing, and it teaches you the proper position for your raised leg (knee held high and forward, "tucked in" towards your standing leg, like a stork).
Pretty sure she did her share of one ski skiing when she was a Jr. and later World Cup/Olympic racer. One ski skiing has been a coaching drill for 40+ years. I hated it when I was a junior, because I was not that good!

Fore/aft balance. Lateral balance. Edging from the knee and ankle.
@@DebArmstrongSkiStrong Thank you for the quick reply, Deb! I will use some of the drills on my recreational students.
