Very painful! These guys need to watch how to operate this ladder before they start showing folks. Everyone, use this video to show you WHAT NOT TO DO.
Please just stop before you end up in the emergency room... You should NEVER climb a ladder at that angle. You have the base waaaay to far out. You are going to ride that to the ground one day... soon. So yes it's unstable you are using it wrong. Also as Wud mentioned you only extend the (top half) put it against the base and walk it up. It's not hard to leverage that much weight with it against the house and your son could do it alone if he knew how. You then hand over hand extend the bottom section straight up and you have it at its full extension. If my 16-year-old little sister can do it so can you...
They have to extend the ladder fully cas that's how those lock in there's no rope cas they fold up with lock pins but still your right u foot it and walk it up
As a construction worker and someone who works with way heavier ladders in way tighter situations, you made this look painful. It's not the ladder. I have one of these. It's you. And all ladders flex. SMH
I'm 5'6" 140lbs and have the lever 2.0 M26. This is the largest version of the leveler. I literally never struggle with it. It helps to under how it works
Always remember the snug your aluminum ladder against the electrical feed to your house Because it’s the first thing you should grab a hold of if the ladders falls
Sorry fellas but you can't complain about the function of a ladder if you're clearly using improperly. That ladder's base should be at least two or three feet inward.
don't normally troll other peoples reviews but this was very painful to watch. i am 6'1" 270lbs and have walked up many straight ladders and most have a little spring/bowing, when climbing at that far of an extension and bad pitch angle. for the most part, i have not used the Little Giant ladders (only used 2 times) and can't speak on experience with them fully extended like this but the times i used them, it felt like one of the sturdiest ladders that i have used.
It seems the safest thing to do would be to remove the porch awning so you wouldn’t have to have the angle of the ladder so wide. At that angle I’d be afraid to climb on it. It looks scary.
Yup, I agree, the sagging / bending is pretty damn sketchy...as for walking the ladder up wall extended, perhaps you can make a gig with 2 small caster wheels off set on side so you temporarily rig on top rung of latter to walk/ roll ladder up wall, just a thought, not Monday morning quaterbacking your issue. All in all, just a guy doing what he has to do to provide and get the job done, stay safe....the hell with at the yadda yadda nay sayers!!!
Ladder should never be at that angle. All ladders have some swing even extension ladder. I watched the whole video to see if you would fall or not. That was dangerous!
Your right, I have a problem with the ladder angle but it’s nice to see it’ll still take the weight. Gives me a bit more faith in the strength of the Little Giant.
I used mine for Xmas lights over the garage in full extension at the right distance. The middle is suspect. It bounces and goes inward. You feel like it's going to collapse. It states 300lbs. I weigh 235 and was about to have a panic attack climbing it to the top. Even if I had the stabilizer bar they sell sell....Id be scared!
Any ladder at that angle will be flexing. in the middle. A extension ladder could be stood straight up, the extended upwards, then properly lean it onto house.
This is an instructional video on how to die on a ladder. Go watch Little Giant instructional videos. These guys are doing EVERYTHING wrong. If they spent 5-10 minutes watching instructional videos on the Little Giant UA-cam channel, they would have saved a LOT of time and been much safer.
The rule of thumb for the correct ladder angle is easily checked. When the ladder is at the correct angle your body should be completely vertical when climbing the ladder. Not leaning forward towards the ladder or your body leaning back if the base of the ladder is too close. The way you are using both ladders is very dangerous. Watch a few fire fighter videos on how to correctly use a ladder before you and your friend get seriously hurt. And adjust the ladder the correct length so that the angle is correct against the wall. The problem is not the ladder. It is the user of the ladder!
“It’s not just the pitch”. You’re correct but the pitch is a huge factor. You’re practically using it as a platform. The base of that ladder should be several feet closer to the house.
You extended the ladder to far out. Even states on the ladder itself that 4 feet of a ladder in height equals 1 foot away from the structure you’re climbing against.
@@Polarcupcheck , It is depending on the angle. This video has them working around a awning. Any ladder is best designed for more vertical climbing not such a large slope/angle approach
I have this ladder and a few ladders the same size. hes right it does have a bending, bouncing feeling at the middle even at the recommended angle, it is a good ladder though very versatile, just gives you the fall feeling when extended at near to full length.
Two people trying to set up a ladder is dangerous. Your supposed to use the house as the kick to position the foot of the ladder and then walk it up. You set that ladder up in reverse. I have the same 23 ft (26 ft reach) and it’s truly a pain to work with and it’s dangerous if you don’t know what your doing. Also, the way you climb a ladder is grabbing the outside rail. The fact your climbing and descending the ladder grabbing each rung shows your inexperience on ladders.
OMG! You're lucky you're still alive. Your friend should have spotted you on the ladder instead of him just watching you. He had to hold the ladder while you were climbing up there and climbing back down.
First of all, this dudes doesnt even know how to raise a ladder......second, that angle is not only wrong, is too dangerous......you should respect the 4:1 ratio. Accidents doesnt happen cause things are defective, 90% of the time is cause people dont know how to freaking use things.....
When extended and almost straight very uncomfortable. Two much give in the center when extended I know exactly what you are saying yes convient for space. But I’d rather wrestle extension ladder a lot more trustworthy
These folding ladders are a bitch fully stretched. Tons of safety things in this video, but regardless yeah I have a 22 ft folding ladder like the little giant and while it’s great for other layouts maneuvering these extend is a pain in the ass. There is no pull string to stretch them and they are top heavy so trying to walk them up is tough. I stick with my good ole extension ladder for high jobs like this.
I had to manhandle one of them myself last year to paint stupid stucco houses down in Florida. Nice ladders but holy smokes are they awkward to get up. I ended up getting it to balance point straight up and walk the legs to where I needed it. Doesn't help the ladder was almost straight up and down when climbing because it was almost too short.
These quys are rookies first the ladder shouldn't be that far away from the house it could slide its tilted to far back 2 a 40ft fiber glass ladder is way heavier then this 3 one quy can do it by himself
For crying out loud Take some length out the ladder to make it easier to work with. Granted they're not light but this is way more struggle than it should've been
I've used these exact same ladders to clear 2nd storey guttering. They're not that difficult to use. You made a mountain out of a mole hill. If I could erect these ladders 1st time, between you guys it should've been a doddle.
Wrong angle on the ladder. Go talk to your local fire dept. about the proper use of a ladder. PS... just waiting for you to touch that electric service line.... light you up real quick! Next time go up on the side of the building and address the fascia from above.
Ural Rider it looks like there’s not enough space between the houses for them to go up the side of the house. I’m thinking they should take the time to remove the awning so they could bring the ladder closer to the house. I’m glad they didn’t get hurt. Very dangerous. I’m glad they posted this so I could learn from situation. I’m a woman who has a tall house so I’m watching vids on ladder safety and tips on using them.
Guys guys guyssss! Use a 75 degree angle! To do this put ladder in extension and put your hand straight out and touch a rung! Bravo 👏🏻 the flex is normal it’s been tested to hold up to around 800-1k pounds of pressure! Lastly open top of ladder then hike up the rest one hand over the other! Use strong fingers!
don't blame the ladder for your incompetency. you extended the ladder at both ends to the max before you rest against the wall. You should have stood the ladder verticle approx 5-8 away from the wall, then extend to height, and then lean the ladder slowly to the wall at approx 73 degrees correct angle. I would use the regular extension ladder "NOT the Little Giant A-frame type ladder" with a hinge joint (DANGER) in the middle for the height you trying to extend to. If you don't know this you have no business climbing the ladder. The ladder already flexing as you set up on the wall, imagine if someone tries to climb it with 150+lbs of weight? I ended viewing your vid at 2:30 cause was a waste of time watching.
I have one of the smaller versions of this ladder and when extended and at a normal pitch it is very bouncy and makes you feel incredibly uneasy. My ladder says it can hold 300lbs and I am definitely not 300lbs, but I feel like it will eventually give out once I pass that pivot point.
From what i hear, ladders have a 3 to 1 rating. Meaning if its rated at 300lbs it can hold up to 900lbs. Thats what i have been reading online.. i googled "ladder for 300lb man" and have seen results that mention the 3 to 1 rating. The only thing i wish to know is if that middle portion has ever collapsed in on somebody. Are there are cases out there where these ladders have folded in, snapped or broken loose on someone?
