Is it that unsafe to take into a hotel in US? I live in Europe and only stay in mid range hotels in good locations with good reviews and never felt unsafe. Usually there is always staff in the reception 24/7 and some hotels you can only reach your own floor with your key card.

Get two of the donuts and rub all over the crotch area of the extra large BVD's and simply hang on the outside door handle. SAFE! For all of you wondering what the coffee was for... To enjoy with the remaining 4 donuts.
Some hotels I have stayed at have a different type of latch at the top where you can’t even open the door until you move the latch out of the way. And it’s actually metal so it feels a lot for high-quality then those plastic latches
Those latches are actually easy to flip back with the do not disturb card on the outside of the door once you push it in from the outside there are videos on how to prevent that with coat hangers

If you are concerned, turn on the shower if you have extra time. If you think you see a fire hazard but have no way to fix it and nowhere else to go, then don't put it through the holes. There's also a video where she just uses a towel.

Highly suggest a doorstop alarm. If the door opens....very loud alarm.... battery operated/ can turn on/off or take out battery for traveling.... it's brilliant for home or travel & very inexpensive on amazon

Where the space between the door and the jam is, put a zip tie around the bolt and the latch. This will prevent the latch from opening at all.
