I stumbled upon this lovely song while searching "Efficacious". Probably the most beautiful way to learn how to pronouns efficacious. Too bad the Jesus stuff means I won't put it in my playlist. My life's experience has been of too many christians telling me that if I don't believe in their version of god I will go to hell. I just do my best to live a good life and be kind because it is better to spread kindness than hate. If I live a good life and there is a god and he is good then he will let me into heaven. But if there is a god and he won't let me in to heaven because I didn't go to church it will be as if there was no god and I'll be fine in oblivion. I will have lived a good life that made me happy and my friends and family will have happy memories of me.

Many Christians have good intentions when they tell people about hell, some may not, but many do. And they do so because they have come to understand what a real and terrifying place it is.
I used to have the same beliefs as you, that a just and good God would never send someone to hell. And if he was so evil as to damn people to hell for all eternity, maybe he wasn't worth worshipping anyway. I thought that being 'good' and 'kind' was enough.
What I didn't understand was that God doesn't send people to hell, he loves us so much that he sent his only Son to die in our place so that we could share eternal life in relationship with him. But the thing is, Heaven does not exist without God. It is not a place that 'good' people simply go when they die; it doesn't exist as a reward for our kindness and good deeds; we don't go there to live out our wildest dreams or to be served wine and good food.
Heaven is the house of God, it is his throne and glory. So it follows that by rejecting God, we reject Heaven. Truly, we send ourselves to hell by not accepting that we are broken and sinful, that we need saving. We send ourselves to hell by hating the very God who created us. That's what hell is really, a place devoid of goodness, a place devoid of God. To hate and reject God is to hate and reject all that is good.
Think of it as if you are stranded out at sea and someone passes you in a boat, wouldn't you want them to stop and tell you to get in or else you will drown? Do they hate you for telling you that you are going to die? You are in a place that leads to death unless there is intervention. Sure, you know how to swim and you know how to float, but our strength will fail us at some point. Why wouldn't we reach out to grasp the hand that saves? Our Fathers hand? Is it not an act of mercy to tell us we will surely die without it?
I hope I'm not coming across too preachy, but the moment I realized the whole 'Heaven/Hell' dichotomy was less about my works and more about his grace, something changed in me, and it all just started to click. It really opened the door for me to learn more about who God truly is and that he only wants good things for me. I realized that all of my issues with God and Christianity were based on a very inaccurate understanding that I had been given through art, media, politics and poorly informed 'Christians.' You seem like a very kind and thoughtful person, it pains me to hear that you've had such negative experiences. Please don't let them keep you from exploring God's true heart. If you ever want to talk, feel free to dm me♥️
