    hydraulic jacks can collapse. lost a brother in law who did not use Jack Stands ( please buy some )

      Jack stands are good advice. But you can also use the wheel that you unscrewed and place it under the vehicle. The wheel may not have enough thickness to stop the car from smacking into you, but it should at least stop it before it completely crush you and end your life.
