Thanks, Nolene! I was hoping that people wouldn't think it was TOO silly because disinformation is a serious enough topic ... but I also wanted people to watch the whole thing and think about it.
Decades ago I attended a very compelling open lecture at Waterloo University that was given by a highly-regarded Professor (in a science discipline) whose name I wish I could recall. As a young sociologist, I could see no chance of the mass social change (in the way of life of societies in the developed world) that the Professor indicated would need to happen immediately in order to avert the future of climate change. Of course, there have been extreme weather events around the world in recent years, and this past summer, the fires and temperatures here in Canada delivered some of the harsh realities of climate change that I remember the Professor describing in that talk decades ago. Climate change is here.
YES, imagine that we have been warned for all those years, and yet here we are arriving at more critical times, with many people still in denial! What will it take? Have a look at my video (10 Steps) that says we should make certain changes right now for great benefits, even if people can’t agree about climate change.
Hi, @macrosense - Some years back, there was a program called VMAP in Ontario, Canada, that involved sheep doing “vegetation management” in forests. The sheep did a good job at eating vegetation that would compete with young trees … however, there were problems with wolves! Goats, protected by donkeys, would probably work out better.
I'm mostly with you about the conspiracy theories, with a few caveats. I agree that conspiracy theories regarding the Canadian wildfires are very likely not real, and that most conspiracy theories in general are incorrect. That said there has been times where conspiracy theories do turn out to be correct, even some pretty outlandish ones so it feels disingenuous to completely disregard every conspiracy theory ever, but that's exactly what the majority of skeptics do. Being skeptical doesn't mean you automatically think anything a bit weird is a total falsehood, it means you require, and should be open to evidence. As far as evidence of something fishy and recent wildfires, I would point to the Maui fires this summer. There are numerous credible reports from locals backed up with video evidence of a lot of strange happenings during the fire. I think it deserves a closer look because I truly think something sinister may have occurred there. It needs to be looked at and investigated, but I worry it will just be lumped in with other conspiracy theories and fall through the cracks. Anyone interested please look into this. Also one last thing, directed energy weapons are absolutely a real thing. It's true they aren't fired from space, but they do exist on earth and it's worth pointing out that they could start a fire. This isn't a secret it's just a thing that militaries have. Im not saying I think there's a connection there, but it's just worth pointing out that it's a thing that exists.
Hi, Quin - I am glad you are throwing in some caveats. My thinking is not as black and white as it may appear in this video. When it comes to UA-cam videos, the strategy is to keep things straightforward and fast-moving because people will scroll away the split-second they are bored. In fact, I often think “where there’s smoke, there MAY BE fire” about any topic where I am aware of rumours. But in this case, I was motivated by a flood of conspiracy theories on the internet that were having the harmful effect of A) falsely enraging people, and B) causing people to dismiss the idea that maybe climate change was a factor in the growing number of wildfires. So I picked my line of (hopefully entertaining) arguments and proceeded. Agreed about ground-based energy weapons. There is even a flashlight that blasts bright light for a surprising distance and can be used to start fires up close!
@@DrDave-Ecologic yes that makes a lot of sense, and it's more or less what my assumption was. I do see the value in not stoking the flames of rampant conspiracy theories online especially climate change denial. If anything I think climate change debunk theories are likely a reverse conspiracy originally pushed by big oil in the first place. It benefits them anyway. I think we should follow the science and there's no debate amongst scientists, it's happening. Perhaps my comments need a bit more of that tone as I fully agree with that sentiment. Anyway I really enjoy your videos, I just came across your channel this morning, and I've been enjoying watching while having breakfast and getting ready. 😊
@quinbatcheller5805 That’s great, Quin. The “comments” section is a good place to put more meat on the bones of the spartan UA-cam presentation. Some interesting discussions come up … and at that point you know you are dealing with people who have a real interest, a question, or perhaps a pearl of wisdom to contribute.
Yes, from a smoky Canadian. Those fires had a major impact on everyone’s lives this spring and summer. Even if you weren’t near an active fire, you could hardly ignore the smoke.
I do not agree that most conspiracy are started by far right groups at all. I enjoy your videos. I would not consider myself far right or a conspiracy theorist. However I have seen conspiracy theories become factual over time. I enjoy your work but that was a bit of a turn off for me. I look forward to more videos
So Matt, I’m glad we are having a chance to e-chat. In making this video, I was trying to be brief and entertaining. That didn’t leave me much wiggle room to add any extra details or provisos or exceptions - just black and white brevity. To me, a conspiracy theory is a fairly off-the-wall idea that has no proof, and sometimes people create conspiracy theories just to confuse the public, to slow constructive actions that the public should be considering, etc. The flip side of that is a cover-up that is exposed!!! (Which is a good thing, right?) The main difference is that the latter comes with solid proof and that is how the cover-up is exposed. One can argue that it is just a matter of time before one turns into another … but I think that one can often tell the difference between a reasonable theory and a conspiracy theory that is being hatched for non-constructive and baseless reasons. Anyway - that’s what I think. Tell me more about what you think. And sorry if what I said in the video insulted you. It certainly wasn’t my intention. I was trying to briefly and cartoonishly illustrate some of the alternative ideas that are out there and that may be distracting people from taking some of the positive steps I mentioned in the video.
@@DrDave-EcologicWell, conspiracies are real. We just don't call the real ones conspiracy theories. Lol As you said. A lot of these conspiracy theories are based off real documents, like operation blue beam or a more realistic, down to earth one - operation Northwoods.
Both fun and educational. I love the role plays!
Thanks, Glenn. I had a chance to release my inner actor!
Loved this so much! Such a fun wayy to share information regarding the wildfires!
Thanks, Nolene! I was hoping that people wouldn't think it was TOO silly because disinformation is a serious enough topic ... but I also wanted people to watch the whole thing and think about it.

We need more goat herders, to herd goats. They will eat the brush
