I visited in August 1964 as a 13-year old schoolboy (just two months before Nikita Khrushchev was deposed as General Secretary). It is impossible to describe the feelings I had of being in such an awe-inspiring building.
It was so nice to read your comment. I visited the Winter Palace on May 6, 2024. I expected more, so I was somewhat disappointed. I am sorry that the personal furniture and belongings of the last emperor have not been preserved. Everything was looted by the Bolsheviks. Also, the bombing of the German fascists caused huge damage to the palace and the whole of Leningrad (St. Petersburg) Did you manage to visit Peterhof? There are a lot more things preserved there.
I have had the great good fortune to have twice visited St Petersburg and the Hermitage Museum. Thank you so much for refreshing some of my best memories with this splendid and perfectly hosted video. My very best wishes to you from New Zealand!
Stunning! Thank goodness that it was not destroyed & looted like the Palace of Versailles. I will not be able to visit the Winter Palace anytime soon, so thank you for the “personal “ guided tour. Thank you from Florida.
I've seen pictures of the museum at least a hundred times and I'm always in awe of its beautiful rooms and art pieces. I hope to someday see the museum in person, even though it's become so familiar to me through the footage I've seen of it online, knowing that I'd be left speechless if I was there in the flesh. Honestly I think if I could spend my whole life there, I would never tire of those rooms.
Thank you. I really enjoyed this video. Please do more! We were hoping to come to St. Petersburg in August but increasingly looking like this may have to be cancelled, so something like this is a wonderful substitute. Did you do it in one take? I didn't notice any editing.
If I was in charge I'd be organising the biggest ballroom party like they had in 1903. Wearing traditional 1600 style costumes and all the coloured bling jewelry. Organise an orchestra, band players, advertise and start selling tickets for anyone who would like to attend the ball. Make it an annual event. It would be a great night out for anyone and everyone. Bring the palace to life.
Very Impressive. Kudos to the Docent whose English was superb. Cant wait to see the Private rooms.
This is a beautifully narrated and expertly presented tour; thank you so very much.
Absolutely splendid! Please provide more tours in English of other rooms in the Winter Palace. A delight to behold.
Bol'shoye spasibo! So wonderful to see in English.
I was there in 1996 and brought back some lovely memories hope to return some day, and great to see a portrait of an Irish man in the winter Palace 😀

I apologized for being ignorant. I had assumed the palace was not looted.

If you want to see a really long take (as in 90 minutes long) filmed in the Winter Palace, I'd recommend the movie "Russian Ark".
Эрмитаж готовит своих гидов-переводчиков? Хорошее произношение.
Шикарно рассказано
