Usopp serves a few different roles. First, he is comic relief, but he also is the closest thing to a stand in for the audience on the crew. After all, he's the only "normal" person that's part of a crew of freakishly strong monsters (Luffy, Zoro, Sanji ...) and hyper-competent geniuses (Nami ...). Once you realize that Usopp is pretty much the everyman in the cast, you learn to appreciate how actually brave he is even if does act like a coward from time to time. Because, let's be honest, most of us would do much the same.
Let's just say that Garp is on another level and his reputation allow him to get away with a lot of things. On a side note people who watch One Piece sometimes forget Luffy is different from most pirates. I mean majority of Luffy's enemies are pirates.
But so are other pirates. Their enemies are also pirates. The main difference between the strawhats and other pirates is that they don't slaughter hundreds to thousands of people in a small village or town.
Yeah. He was a prominent figure to the world during the Gold Roger era and was titled Hero of the Marines after a certain incident. That 2 alone granted him so much status that the marines let him get away with most things to keep him within the marines. He also refused promotion many times and choose to remain as an vice-admiral so he doesnt have to be under the direct order of the World Noble, who he hates. In his position he can just say things like “i dont know whats going on, im just a vice admiral” kinda things. Combine all that, he basically can do almost anything and still wouldnt get fired by the marines.
@@SeeHanghell he trow the f anchor even ... but given the early introduction compared to the manga or anime it kinda justified since it would ruin the power level the whole series like introduce blue saiyan while still in android-cell in dragon ball
I thought the calling out their attacks was going to be cringe, but man do I love when they do it - especially when Luffy does it in a screaming desperate way - that battle axe kick I've reminded multiple times.😂
@@star.surfer9446 I cannot wait for the moment he breaks down and does it. Quietly To himself WAY out of earshot of any of the rest of the crew. And is still embarrassed about it.
@@JoshTheValiant Yeah, it's going to be a great payoff considering Zoro has some of the longest named attacks of the crew. You can already see the stoic exterior cracking a bit at Baratie and with his Sanji interactions. I can't wait to see the chemistry truly blossom in Season 2, now that everyone are properly onboard with being a family and Nami is free to relax and enjoy their company. If they're already this great together after a few episodes, can you imagine the chemistry we'll have with the WHOLE crew together for the entire next season?
Garp is so beyond Arlong its unbelievable. If Garp knew of what was going on in Coco village he would literally just show up by himself and single-handedly topple everything they’ve done without a scratch on him
Yeah once you see how crazy strong certain figures are among the leaders of Marines the Warlords the Emporers crews etc it makes Arlongs claims that he would rule all the seas seem absurd. Luffy's claim even seems difficult but he has WAY more potential than Arlong.
Usopp Vs Chu was a lot more epic in the anime, Chu chases him for a while longer and he actually betas usopp up a lot to the point where usopp starts thinking "its okay, i tried my best the guys will understand if i just lay low and go back once this is done" Usopp then realises he'd be a disgrace to do that so he gets up, manages to set him on fire like in the LA and even that doesnt take him down so Usopp just has to pound away at him with a hammer until he dies.
yeah while i love what they did with the other characters in the season i feel like Usopps moments were watered down? he just didnt stand out as much which is a shame because i think he has a lot of presence in the original (regardless if youre a fan of his character or not)
I think I can confidently say this show captures the first 40 episodes so well in such a short amount of time even with the changes. I’m new to the anime and can’t wait to continue watching it and come back for season 2
The thing about Usopp is that he's kind of the odd one out at the beginning of the story. He doesn't have a crazy power or proficiency in a fighting skill like the others, so naturally he has less confidence and is the most scared member of the crew, which serves in many instances as a comic relief. However, throughout the journey he gains this confidence and skill, be it through self-effort or particular circumstances out of his control (the latter provide some of the funniest moments in the series). I think they captured Usopp's beginning pretty well so his character should continue this way for some time, we just have to give him time to grow. Lets remember this is an adaptation (a pretty close one at that) of an anime that is over 1000 episodes, so the metrics by which characters are evaluated should be different from that of regular shows with far less story content.
Usopp's dream is handled so well here. In the original it's far more strongly established that he looks up to and is proud of his dad for going out to sea and becoming a notorious pirate, regardless of what others say, but here, that's only vaguely alluded to, so his dream of becoming a great warrior of the sea (like his dad) doesn't quite have the same zing to it. BUT the choice to have his flashback, the equivalent to the other crewmembers eyes lighting up with promise and hope and determination, be him watching his mother die and being helpless to do anything about it, makes it hit SO HARD. Usopp is kind of aimless, he is kind of useless, he is kind of hopeless, but this little dream he chooses to chase reflects this so well. He wants to be brave, and stop running from what's in front of him. He wants to be a warrior, to protect what's important to him and win his battles. He wants to be of the sea, bigger and broader than the little town and the little room his mother died in. And until this moment (in the live action), he had never truly thought about what it meant to HAVE a dream. Or at least, not to chase it. And it's all subtext. Beautiful.
maaan i wish these guys would see the anime version of this season, or at least some of the main scenes. if they're so into the live action then the anime would absolutely knock them flat. but either way i love how much they loved it throughout.
Same here, they already have the S2 script ready, the only thing get in the way is the strikes, so I hope netflix be dealing with it faster so they can start filming. And not only S2, they said the success is enough to get 6 seasons (skypiea included) already in the bag, and hopefully can be extend to 12 season afterwards. Peak Piece energy is real 🤩🤩
That chap we see in the final teaser? Captain Smoker. Not-corrupt-marine. Determined chaser. Mascot for chain smokers everywhere. User of the smoke-smoke fruit.
when Aaron looked at Greg with a smile pointing at the screen and said "hes gonna be king of the pirates". that shit right there. its beautiful seeing new people getting into it.
I'm sad that there won't be anymore One Piece reaction from you guys, for now. Hopefully S2 can resume production right after the strike is over. If it still remains faithful to the source material, then you'll get to experience what made One Piece the greatest story ever told.
Usopp is a slow-burn character, for sure, and I think it's more apparent in the live action (LA). In the manga/anime, a lot of his early content is gags that might not translate to LA and bits about his unceasing cowardice (which is tiring even for Usopp fans in the early days), so when you drop that stuff, you just don't see him as often. Also, they didn't make it clear that Chu was Arlong's, like, 3rd in command. Him winning was actually a huge deal, and the LA didn't emphasize it much (though the anime dragged it out too long, lol). Hopefully S2 (confirmed today btw) lets him shine a bit more. There are opportunities. That said, he didn't become a great character (for me) until what will most likely translate to S4.
I can't really think of a live action adaptation that's done it better. They left out a lot from the anime but they did an amazing job of leaving out, changing or slightly adapting the right things in just the right way to tell this shortened version of the anime without detracting from the story and still making it a riviting season 1.
From luffy screaming battle ax and sanji screaming his kicks for nami I was screaming inside with excitement. What a great adaptation. A great reminder on why One Piece is my favorite anime❤️.
this is the first reaction ive watched from yall and yall got a new sub i love the discussions and the joy you guys give off when youre enjoying a series
Garp is actually known as Hero Garp, he's a renowned Vice Admiral and one of the most important asset to World Government's official military branch that is the Marines. While Mihawk is one of the 7 Warlords of the Sea which is under the World Government (sort of), the Four Emperors are considered to be the strongest 4 pirates in the world.... Yasopp most often wears a headband with his name on it, he did wear it in the initial Red Hair Pirates scenes with Shanks!
The show honestly chose an interesting spot to cut off at. In the original anime, Romance Dawn saga(the saga's being combinations of smaller arcs) ended right as they entered the grand line. But this live adaptation? It stopped right before the island leading into it, the island where that marine at the end with the cigar is at. Though, I assume that's not bad, because that island is a perfect island for having a recap mixed in, due to the history of said island. The same city... where Rodger was executed. Talk about a perfect location for a recap at the start of Season 2.
I've been watching one piece since 2018 and it's at the point that I watched the 1074 episodes + I'm rewatching with my bro (which is a first time watcher and we are at ep 750) while I read weekly the new chapters. Yeah that's as crazy as it sounds haha. All of that to say I'm damn satisfied by what they made, we can easily notice that the team behind this project (without even counting oda) is fan of one piece and understand fully this world. For anyone who followed this live action but never watched/read one piece, I just wanna tell you to go for it, now that you are introduced to this universe, it's time to dive fully into it ! Yeah 1074 episodes sounds scary but you shouldn't see it like a number, you should just go for it and enjoy at your rythm and eventually, in maybe 4-5 years, you will reach the current episode. With the next season potentially releasing (if not cancelled) let's say in 2026 and you watching let's say 120 episodes per year, you could be fully in the story when the next season releases. It's such a good world that it deserves to be seen in the other formats, the live action is quite limited but what you saw took 45 episodes of the anime, which means there is a lot that's cut, like you don't even know about the legendary Gaimon ! I know I sound crazy in this comment, but that's just how good one piece is in terms of world building. I've been into anime since my childhood, watched all dragon ball, naruto, hxh and others, but one piece is peak for me, it makes me a joyful boy ! (IYKYK)
my first comic of one piece was back then in 2005 my beginning of online reading is since 2011 and still, reading it online weekly since 2011 to this day one piece is the best written media ever write by someone, nothing come close
This wasn’t a perfect series, but it was a lot of fun. It doesn’t need to be over analyzed. The manga and anime are fantastic but also very odd. The live action made the correct decision by fearlessly leaning into the chaos and trusting the audience to enjoy the ride.
I don’t know if there is any truth to this but I’ve seen that Netflix has committed to 6 seasons. It was on Twitter but I haven’t seen any confirmation anywhere else
Loved the finale episode and can't wait for Season 2. I hope they take it slow with the series and have season 2 be about the adventures of the newly formed crew and enemies that they're going to go up against. They really shouldn't rush to introduce new crew members yet. They need to save that for Season 3 or at least have the last 2 or 3 episodes of Season 2 set up the intro of a new crew member. They can easily have this series be 10 seasons long with all the material they have to work with and the viewers will never get bored. Rushing to introduce the crew would be a bad move and skip over a lot of good and fun stories. They need to focus on a few of the smaller stories that come back up in the series later as well as the big stories that have major consequences to the future of the Luffy and the crew. The person with the cigars at the end is a new enemy that's going to give Luffy a whole lot of trouble when he meets him. If you decide to watch more of the anime up to the character with the cigar you'll know who that character is and see the sidekick/partner that is going to get a reaction out of Zoro. The series makes me want to watch the series from the beginning for the third time, but I want to get back up to the current episodes before I do that. I just made it to Luffy's first fight with Kaido so once I'm caught up I'm going to watch the series again along with the live action to see how close they keep it to what happened. I really hope you two watched the Yu Yu Hakusho live action series as well. I'm going to rewatch that anime for a 3rd time in preparation for Season 1. Enjoyed the reaction 👍👍✌out.
It would be cool if Luffy creates a whole new meaning for being a pirate and so many join him. With them working alongside the marines sometimes taking down big bad pirates
This is my favorite episode great fights and the music is incredible we must get a season 2 and we need studios to pay there writers and actors so they can get back to making great shows like this
If you ever wonder, this show is trying to do the clichè thing of "With the Power of Friendship, they prevailed", nope thats not the case here. Its not your typical Shonen. This series does Friendship just right, which you will see more in further seasons, or in the anime for the Patreon reactions. All of AOT/Berserk fans living consuming depression, lights up times 10 watching OP.
You know, I was kinda worried that one of my favorite One Piece characters might end up being entirely replaced by Garp since the show decided to focus on Garp so much in this first season... I was very happy that ending stinger proved me wrong.
Last episode you said arlong seemed way less threatening than Mihawk. Well you are correct Mihawk is one of the strongest people in the entire seriew. He and Garp could solo every pirate crew we meet in season 1. They are out of place in the east blue, they are grandline material
S2 just got announced. If it it will be the same number of eps I hope they scrap alabasta coz it is the first big arc of the series in which the first big baddie is introduced. I want that arc to be given full justice not just 2 or 3 eps
I’m guessing that on every season of OPLA there is one marine or someone else following them all throughout In this season Garp Next season will be Smoker

Season 2 is renewed. ODA sensei today teased with Straw Hat's new doctor "Chopper" :D, Cant wait.
Cheers to @ReelRejects
Never watched the Anime but watching along with you guys makes me want to go back and watch it. Truly sad this is the finale
It’s official season 2 is coming and has been renewed according to netflix and oda sensei himself
It would be cool if Luffy creates a whole new meaning for being a pirate and so many join him. With them working alongside the marines sometimes taking down big bad pirates
I think it would defeat the purpose...i think anyone else can do it but not Luffy
The season finale was incredible
“Can’t wait till they reunite”
This was really fun. It’s a shame that you guys don’t react to the anime. I wish you would too
Man if laboon apears i will cry
This is my favorite episode great fights and the music is incredible we must get a season 2 and we need studios to pay there writers and actors so they can get back to making great shows like this
Loved this series, loved your reactions glad you enjoyed It!!! They've announced there's a season 2 coming yay !!
13:30 grandpa stronger than Arlong his crew and strahats combined.
19:29 Yeah....They will reunite real soon bro...😂😂😂
Not surprised about Garp, in anime and manga there are a lot of characters you’d think were villains, but were actually not. Lots of gray characters.
Season 2 Confirmed by Oda! Renewed by Netflix!!
If you ever wonder, this show is trying to do the clichè thing of "With the Power of Friendship, they prevailed", nope thats not the case here. Its not your typical Shonen. This series does Friendship just right, which you will see more in further seasons, or in the anime for the Patreon reactions. All of AOT/Berserk fans living consuming depression, lights up times 10 watching OP.
my favorite pre-ts villain, HESCOMING
Season 2 is on the way and I am beyond happy.
I couldn't stop smiling watching you guys enjoy this so much
Don't underestimate usopp he will make all he's lies come true and become the bravest warrior of the sea he just needs to believe in himself.
Yasopp has blond hair
In the manga and anime the Marines don't question anything. That's one of the reasons why Koby is so special.
I'm here from 1st episode to finale! Dang what a ride
In the manga rn garp one punched a single island and destroyed and he isnt even in his prime.
That was definitely smoker at the end I can't wait for season 2 ❤️ I love the anime and manga they nailed this live adaptation ❤️
They better do smoker justice!!!
You know, I was kinda worried that one of my favorite One Piece characters might end up being entirely replaced by Garp since the show decided to focus on Garp so much in this first season... I was very happy that ending stinger proved me wrong.
about sanji - his flirting was tone down a lot from anime. he overdo it directly to creepy side
SEASON 2 WAS JUST ANNOUNCED!!!!!!!!!
Season 2 confirmed, hope you watch the next one too!
Last episode you said arlong seemed way less threatening than Mihawk. Well you are correct Mihawk is one of the strongest people in the entire seriew. He and Garp could solo every pirate crew we meet in season 1. They are out of place in the east blue, they are grandline material
now u can atleast watch the anime from the first episode all the way to the end of Arlong's Park!
Garp its like mihawk level !! Or close
S2 just got announced. If it it will be the same number of eps I hope they scrap alabasta coz it is the first big arc of the series in which the first big baddie is introduced. I want that arc to be given full justice not just 2 or 3 eps
I’m guessing that on every season of OPLA there is one marine or someone else following them all throughout
In this season Garp
Next season will be Smoker
Having never known or watched the anime series, all I can say is that: it's him... The One Piece has always been him.
Being told you are a wanted man, and you are proud of it. things that can't happen in the real world.😂😂😂
Two cigarettes 😮 he's clearly a big smoker
To be fair, if you are a pirate...garp is the top g you're terrified of...and it's justified lol dude is a walking one man army
THATS SMOKERRRR
Garp could girll Arlong and all his fish crew 🤣
I think you shoud edit the 11:43 part until 11:58
If you guys see the anime I will watch all your reactions to it and I 100% believe you’d enjoy it
