I, for one, don't want my tax dollars funding a losing business every year. It is time to downsize and lay off some of the postal staff, including management, to make a profitable business. We need a postal service, just not as large.
Here's the common ground: Canada Post is done. Unrealistic wages for unskilled labour just will not fly in the 21st century. We have all moved on, your jobs are gone. Cry me a river.
Who wants things on weekend. Who cares if I get my package during business hours. Where are the surveys to say that they losing business because they don't deliver on weekends? Everyone uses Canada Post cause it's cheaper, that's their niche.
Wrong. I ship tens of thousands of packages a year. Canada Post rates average about DOUBLE what I pay. The small businesses that need reliable shipping care about weekend delivery. Canada Post is just trying to stay relevant. But the fact is, the only reason we even need them anymore is to service the 10% of the country (very rural areas) that the more reliable and cheaper competition don’t service (yet).

No education, no skills, they earn $30/hour, can’t be laid off, guaranteed income retirement… Nothing unfair? Are you out of your mind? who have these rights in Canada ? they are unskilled workers!!!
Canada Post management has made poor financial decisions for the last 6 years under Doug Ettinger and his management team. Don't worry, they're all still getting their pay plus bonuses though including Jon Hamilton who make $300k a year plus bonuses.
What fantasy land do you live in? Almost every nation has a national post office. Canada Post has the lowest shipping rates. It's a service company not a for profit company. They go where other couriers won't. They get paid less than other courier services like FedEx and purolator. Also, Canada post turned away Amazon's business a few years ago. A lot of Canada post's " losses" are from investments into their own company. But with the raises and bonuses the top executives continue to get, and the business they turn down, and the mishandling of funds, the problem solely is in the hands of the top management. The workers should not suffer for the tops inconpetence
weekend delivery is stupid in cp's case. The only reason there is weekend delivery is amazon, and they dont even ship with cp anymore. and tbh cp usually just drops off a notice and you still have to go to the physical post office to pick up your parcel anyways. So its not weekend delivery its weekend pickup. the way there going the parcel business is going to shrink so much after this they wont even hire pt workers anyways.
How about restructuring the entire organization to be more efficient and providing better and faster service to Canadians? If they want to be paid well, they should perform their jobs better than everyone else.
The union refuses to believe that CP is losing money. They don't understand how running a business (Crown Corporation, being run like a business) works. All they see is what they want and expect that it can just be given to them. They think they are offering up viable solutions for Canada Post, but they are demanding so much that they tie their hands and make it impossible for them to make the changes they need to make. The negotiator for CUPW is an *dio*
My offer would be to reduce operating costs by cutting management positions by 40% and close/sell 40% post office builings. This way every worker keep their job and continue working again. The alternative is contract out mail services to amazon.

All postal employees are Specialists
@@signintoconfirm6168 Unrealistic wages for unskilled labour. Elon Musk would be very upset at you calling him out so personally.
Robotisation of some operation using AI could help though imo.

@@misbehave3938actually if using small parcel letter mail, CP is about $3 anywhere in Canada. Tracked Xpress is $17 or $20 to eastern Canada. No couriers are that cheap, no courier brokers are. CP regular mail takes a couple days, currently couriers are taking 2 weeks from BC to SK. Within BC it's going on 5 days.
@@misbehave3938”reliable and cheaper competition”
Except they don’t service those areas, so they are neither reliable or cheap 🤡
That's why Amazon is so successful. They d deliver on weekends . They are #1.
@@Ladybug83me Except their treatment of their workers is utterly atrocious 🤡🤣

????
im sure there are many more competent management out there willing to replace them all
if all top are fired, we should not have unions. deal?
No public support for this strike. Get back to work!
Not a bad job especially when you don't need a high school diploma to work for Canada post...!!!
Then try to negotiate instead of pretending you are the victim.
Canadians are the victims here, but if we make them wait to settle in 2026 they only make a whopping $ 10,200 after taxes a year for strike pay its less than the $12,800 dollar a year raise are asking for

How many businesses will be bankrupted by that strategy? What about remote communities that depend on Canada Post for food and medicine deliveries? Think it through.
Government should take over Canada post . Make it fully not for profit like healthcare and education. It’s an essential service .
Canada Post is handicapped by being obligated to deliver to rural and remote locations. The government needs to step up and start funding the Post Office.
How much of the gap is executive compensation?
Canada Post, the grinch who stole Christmas
Stop the payment for the Management until solve the issue. Sitting down at home and collecting salary with bonuses. Stop the payment today, you will have deal right away. Ordinary Canadians, small businesses and rural communities are hurting a lot. Give them a break.
Does Vassy understand that full time workers get paid for 8 hrs even if they only work 4, due to low volumes? And they can go home once their daily volumes are done? Hence why they want part time on weekends
Ok and? It’s called efficiency.
@ not if the reason is due to insufficient work presented to them
@@kathyr7490 You clearly never worked at Canada Post. I’d like to see you do their job if you think it’s so easy 🤡🤣
@ oh I totally respect what they do and I know that it is not easy. Especially in our winters. My point is that there needs to be flexibility while implementing something. Why not have part time workers on weekends? They pay the same union dues as everyone else.
@@kathyr7490 This 4 hour work day is not a common thing. Years past possibly but it is not common now. Some get done earlier due to being younger and able to finish quicker. The weekend workers the company wants are closer to gig workers.
No direct answer lol, you must be the government spokesperson
What? He was very direct. Name one thing he didn’t answer directly.
He actually is the government spokesperson
@joshh9810 when he mentioned that after 5 years , no one can be laid off and she said "you agreed to that though!" He just changed the subject lol
Everything we have , Canada post AGREED too in return for a lower wage increase
He was very direct
@@Paaacss what? He acknowledged it. What did you want him to say?
I want to work less and do more also looks like to do that you have to work for the federal government.
This guy is spewing garbage out of his mouth. He is saying he wants canada post to be amazon, without saying he wants them to be amazon. Look how amazon treats and pays their workers..
" The competition is out stealing all our parcels....." He forgot the tidbit that canada post owns 91% of purolator, the main competitor right now. Double dipping much?
"Postal systems around the world are facing the exact same problem and have been able to find changes and things like that...." The union is pushing for postal banking, which the royal mail is doing and finding success. The union has been pushing for it, yet management doesn't want it.... Why not?
“Canada Post workers deserve fair wages, safe conditions, and decent retirement-nothing unfair about that.
No education, no skills, they earn $30/hour, can’t be laid off, guaranteed income retirement… Nothing unfair? Are you out of your mind? who have these rights in Canada ? they are unskilled workers!!!
They already have it !!!
But they want more .that's all
@ next time when you dress up for the weather think about them.
I think what he's trying to say is that the union is asking for the sun, the moon, and the stars...but will now settle for the sun and the stars.
Canada Post can't compete and it seems the union is going to ensure it will never be able to compete. It will be sad to see it go.
Canada Post management has made poor financial decisions for the last 6 years under Doug Ettinger and his management team. Don't worry, they're all still getting their pay plus bonuses though including Jon Hamilton who make $300k a year plus bonuses.
But go it must
What fantasy land do you live in? Almost every nation has a national post office.
Canada Post has the lowest shipping rates. It's a service company not a for profit company. They go where other couriers won't. They get paid less than other courier services like FedEx and purolator.
Also, Canada post turned away Amazon's business a few years ago. A lot of Canada post's " losses" are from investments into their own company. But with the raises and bonuses the top executives continue to get, and the business they turn down, and the mishandling of funds, the problem solely is in the hands of the top management. The workers should not suffer for the tops inconpetence
@@dougs2k808 bad financial decisions from way back inI 2007.

Clean out management and get rid of the union. Win WIN !
@@Finness894 Why the union?
@@stratford374 They are like Paying in to an expensive insurance policy and only getting a little coverage.
weekend delivery is stupid in cp's case.
How about cutting upper management jobs and leaving the worker bees alone?
How about restructuring the entire organization to be more efficient and providing better and faster service to Canadians? If they want to be paid well, they should perform their jobs better than everyone else.
100%
Worked at Canada post for 2 years, management is atrocious.

Drop our stuff at the community centre for volunteers to distribute until President's Choice can fully take over.
this guy is just a snake oil salesman, can't believe a word out his dirty mouth 😂
The door to door milkman went by the wayside, Canada Post might as well too.
My offer would be to reduce operating costs by cutting management positions by 40% and close/sell 40% post office builings. This way every worker keep their job and continue working again. The alternative is contract out mail services to amazon.
CP employees/union are like spoiled brats who never had their employer say NO before. It's a new world, all we need is email and FEDEX.
We need to privatize Canada post.
I agree
Agreed, but without a Union!!! 👍🏻

@BobTheBob647 fun fact. Canada Post is a service. How much do chief police execs or firefight make? Or hospital ?
Can't compare to for profit companies
Privatize it, no union in the public sectors should be allowed. it’s not a negotiation. Union is holding Canadians as hostage., and demand whatever they want
Talk about how much top management is making!!!!!!! Greedy evil corporation!!!! Why is it the the workers that are being greedy when top management is making way more than all of the employees combined??????
If they don’t get back to work soon they won’t be needed. Once everyone changes their ways to pay and get bills they won’t be switching back.

Even after so many concessions from CUPW, it is mind-boggling why the CPC Management can't find the common ground!

Because capitalists are greedy.
Wonder which courier companies CP execs and those in the know are invested in.
A bunch of CP management also hold positions at Purolator.
Canada Post has a 91% stake in Purolator
Yeah, the post didn’t want to strike in the summertime because they’re too busy taking their holidays
Jon Hamilton was scrambling when Vassy put him the spot. Go VASSY !!
Shut down Canada Post
Worst idea here. Congrats!
It's going to be interesting to see who buys up the assets when canada post closes up.
My bet it will be Purolator getting the assets cheap and the executives just change the name on their business cards. They will work for a private company so raises and high fives all around.
Canada Post will be bankrupt and gone unless they can compete with private industry - preventing that is the handcuffs of the union and it’s out of date mentality and lack of progression…..Canada Post should operate 24/7 365 with full efficiency in return the wages should be premium to compensate
Let Canada Post fold and restart after a year with new contracts that allow Canadians a real post office that is customer focused and can be self sustaining.
Vassy is the best, hands down.
Canada Post should be replaced by DHL or UPS, way more reliable
“reliable”
LOL
Obviously the host sides with the CP union 😅
Nope. She is balanced unlike your usual source I guess. She pushed back on the union yesterday as well.
I will avoid Canada post as much as possible going forward
This strike has done a fantastic job of proving just how irrelevant Canada Post is today.
Imagine a "company " which looses 800 million a year and yet keep asking for more money!!! Insanity!! Just fire all of them and make a small postal service. They can sell stamps and deliver bills, that's it!! The rest will be quickly replaced by private business!!
A 20% RAISE ON POSTIES MAKING OVER $31 PER HOUR WHICH IS 70% OF ALL POSTIES . GOES LIKE THIS $31 × 20%=$6.20 AN HOUR INCREASE. THERE ARE 2080 HOURS A YEAR TIMES $6.20 =$12,698 A YEAR RAISE
How much is he getting paid? Why don’t they sack their upper management and their bonus’s then hire cheaper?
I would like to know the rationale behind Canada Post's leadership structure, which includes 8 Executive Leaders, and 13 Vice-Presidents
Wow was the host ever in the union's pockets on this one - not even close to being neutral.
Go and check her interview with the union.
This is what a balanced interview looks like. Obviously not what you are used to seeing. She pushed back on the union as well.
I can't believe that they work for 5 years and then they can be paid for the rest of their lives. That's crazy. I feel there needs to be some serious changes to make Canada Post competitive or else they're going to become a thing of the past.
I don't think this rep is being totally honest. I've read that they worker has to accept another position and if they don't then they can be let go.
So far removed from reality.....
