Story of my ride: Wollongong City Circuit - recon on 'Training Day' at the 2022 world championships

- The time trials are over and the road races begin soon. The Thursday of #Wollongong2022, however, is considered a 'Training Day' for the riders (and the annual UCI Congress, being held at the University of Wollongong).
I went for a ride after some morning rain had abated... and set off to catch the vibe on the 'City Circuit' which will be a feature of the races that are yet to come.
It got a bit wet (and spoiled the audio for some of this video) but I got a taste of the course with full road closures and with some of the world's best cyclists all around.
This is the story of my (very short) ride for Thursday 22 September 2022.

I could feel the atmosphere while you were rind the course Rob. And to think i could have stayed with friends in Camden. Kicking myself now.

As a teenager I used to live in the house on the corner of Ramah and Brokers and used to ride my bike up that damn road if I went anywhere. I pushed it a lot.
Nice vid Rob, was up the top of Ramah yesterday for the under 23 mens. Great to see the power of those guys. Plenty of fatigued head shakes in the peleton as they summited Ramah and turned into Brokers. With the rain though, all the foot paths (grass only) are a mudbath. If anyone is going up there do it early and be prepared for to stay there. Plenty of neighbourhood TV screens around - good one on the corner of Brokers and Cabbage Tree. Loved all the house decorations too.

Can't always film when there's racing on (with some limitations from organisers), so it's good to be able to share some of the vibe on a day when it was possible to do so.

Rode the whole course Sunday. My plan is to watch the start online shoot up the Mount Kiera climb, back to town and settle down in front of one of the big screens to watch the fireworks. The atmosphere in front of the big screens is electric.
@ridemedia on Sunday, after the mens start at 10.15 the coastal road from Helensberg to Wollongong will be closed until 11.30 AM. Does the road closure also applies to bicycles? Do we have to wait until 11.30 AM to ride to Wollogong? Any idea?

@@Anna-yi7vu And have even more obese Australians not exercising. Australia currently rates about 3rd most obese nation on the planet(sadly we’ve come a long way from the 50s & 60s!!!) so I’m all for getting Australians off their couches & exercising, not impeding them!!
