I don't like those sweet messages on FB that end by saying "if you love Jesus you'll share this" or "if your not ashamed". I find those offensive even if I like the saying or message.

I agree, sometimes I share them because what they say besides that is true and beautiful. I never share them with the intent of expecting people to share them and if they don't judge them as not loving, or being ashamed of Jesus. However, in the future I think I'll take a screenshot and crop that part out.

It’s manipulative to write “ if you love Jesus you will share this.” It’s disrespectful, too, in that it doesn’t respect the many excellent reasons someone has for not sharing.

Perhaps modify “I’ll pray for you” to “can we pray together right now?” And the saying, “let me know if I can ever help you”…how about, what day this week can I bring you dinner? can I watch your children during your next doctor apptmt? I would love to drive you to your next apptmt…I’m headed to the grocery this afternoon, please text me a list of things I can get for you, and I will drop them by your home…turn that vague “let me know if I can ever help” to actual, practical ways to help.

YES! So many people even family members could care less about you and show it by not helping or keeping in touch with you. I had gotten very sick years ago and recieved nothing from the people ( my family) that loved me, that I dedicated my time to for so many years , was not there for me at all. So I recovered from my illness and all that I had wished my friends and family would of helped me with as you stated, I now do for those people in my life.

Yes -- THAT one! Why do we need to "name drop"? Just say you feel or think a certain way about something or someone, but don't invoke God's credit score to validate your inkling. Maybe the Holy Spirit DID tell you something, maybe God HAS been informing you of something, maybe it WAS Jesus in a dream you had...can't we just share our concerns, offer correction or encouragement, or share a scripture (in context, please), and be satisfied that God has not advertised for a PR firm to handle His campaign? "A Word spoken in season" (Proverbs 15:23) describes the joy experienced having delivered a Word at just the right time, moment, circumstance, event...I am SO guilty of having tossed around, "God told me,..." when I was a new Christian. Fortunately, no one was harmed, thanks to God's grace over all parties concerned.

I had always thought that verse was about not showing off that you are praying which goes to motive of why you are praying and looking for reward from people. We do see corporate prayer throughout the whole Bible and that is praying outside of a closet and we don't see it condemned. We see Jesus condemning the religious leaders of the day for liking to be seen and heard when they pray as well as the one one who thanks the Lord that he isn't a sinner. Thank you so much for including “everything happens for a reason.” That is so untrue. God gave us free will. So if someone murders your loved one (this happened to me), God had nothing to do with it. That person chose to do evil. I believe God was watching and weeping for that event. But like a parent, He let us go out into the world with our own will. What we choose to do with it sets in motion good and bad events. So I never blamed God or was angry with God when my niece was so brutally murdered. I knew exactly who to blame. The people who did it, and the evil one who influenced them because they turned away from God. Free will is a wonderful gift. We shouldn’t blame God for what happens because of it.

Yes. Preach. A lot don't understand this concept and as a result leads to people blaming God for letting bad things happen especially the fact He is all powerful and all knowing. I feel like God can only do so much according to our faith. If we pray or weep to God and we don't keep His commands or follow Jesus's example, it would make sense for Him to not do anything.

You speak well. My daughter was taken, missing for 7 weeks, and then her body found discarded in a creek on Christmas Eve 2019 by hunters. The people who said this or wrote this sentiment, however well-meaning, had no idea the grief and anger it caused me and our family. My heart truly goes out to you because I know this kind of obscene pain. @Tracy Karol have you ever read thru the book of Job.......?... I am sorry for the loss of your neice......And I cannot give you an answer as to why God allowed such tragedy to happen... but we must remember God DOES have a reason for allowing things to happen... and in this sense... Everything DOES.. happen for a reason... God ONLY knows.. the reason behind all the events...
though God did NOT allow Satan to Kill Job.. in Job's case... this does Not mean that God with holds Satan's hand in every person's situation...
It is Not for us to know.. why God allows these tragedies to happen
was it right of God to allow Cain to slay Abel?... Could God have prevented it?.. YES..
why did God allow an innocent man who loved God and was Loved by God to be slain?..
I refuse to believe that God did Not have a reason for it.... MY God does Not work that way... haphazardly.. like a roll of the dice.. or a ball going around on a roulette wheel..
people can be upset with God.. for what they feel is an injustice done to someone in the case of murder.... and some people even Hate God for injustices done... I ve seen couple leave the Church and QUIT God.. when they lost their infant child..
it is a harsh reality... many can hate God for what they feel is not right.. but here is a fact
God created us ... so thereby God OWNS us... God can do what He wills with us.. And we should Not be upset with God... Why.?. because we are only here because God allowed us to be here..
Why are so many angry with God.?. or do Not believe everything happens for a reason..?..
because they do NOT know the same God I know...

I dislike people saying that your loved ones are looking down on heaven or to talk to your deceased loved ones they're looking down on you. The Bible states that it's only God Alone who can hear our prayers. The Bible also states that our loved ones , and ourselves included, don't enter Heaven until the last day. The dead are in the grave awaiting the resurrection. Read Thessalonians. The dead in Christ rise first at His return, and then those who remain go to meet Him in the air. Nobody goes to heaven ever. People are created to dwell on earth and that’s where they stay. Even at His return he sets up a 1000 year reign on earth. At the end of Revelation there’s a new heaven and new earth. The new Jerusalem coming down with the pearly gates and streets of gold is on earth. It literally says it’s on earth. Go back and read it.
      Ecclesiastes 9:5-6
5 For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing, and they have no more reward, for the memory of them is forgotten.
6 Their love and their hate and their envy have already perished, and forever they have no more share in all that is done under the sun.

@@fivebooks8498 I respectfully disagree. On the cross, Jesus told one of the thieves “Today I will see you in heaven.” There’s also the rich man and Lazarus, who were on opposite sides of Hades (Lazarus at “Abrahams bosom”, the rich man in torment and unable to cross). In the OT we see the spirit of Samuel summoned by Saul. From these and other verses, it seems clear that believers’ souls will go to heaven/paradise and be with Jesus. But we won’t have our glorified bodies until the resurrection. I’m not sure if unbelievers are now in torment or are sleeping until Judgment, but even Revelation indicates martyrs’ souls in heaven crying out for justice and God assuring them, saying they must wait just a while longer until the rest join them. “Fell asleep” in the Bible is used usually the same way we say “passed away” or any other euphemism for death. Of course I could be completely mistaken! But either way, there will be no more suffering for dead believers. Perfect peace, what a glorious wonder awaits! Have a blessed day!

Breaking up with someone isn't a "little thing" especially for people truly put GOD as head of their life and seek HIM on all things. Because marriage is actually a big deal, asking GOD for guidance in dating practices is essential. Too many people chose their free will over GOD's purpose when it comes to dating and end up in relationships and marriages that GOD has joined together.

I have had dozens of relationships... in the last 50 years of my life... but most of those 50 years I was not saved... so I did not even think about what non marital relationships meant in regards to God..and when I found a woman that was special to me I DID marry her.. and we reaised a family and all went to church...I never looked at a "relationship"... with someone outside of the marriage bond the same way that I looked at a relationship inside the marriage bond.. if a person thinks enough of their partner or the relationship they have to someone ..to NOT consider the relationship or possible break up of a relationship..as NOT a little thing.......what are they doing NOT getting married...?.
.if people oppose marriage... I cannot take their relationship serious enough to consider it a BIG thing.... Marry then.. show the world how the other person is Not a little thing... staying with someone and Not marrying them is like reading the bible and never getting saved... marriage----salvation... hmmmm
I think after a certain period of time.. a person knows if this is their forever person.. if they are.. then... propose..! even if the 2 are penniless and have to be married in a shack...... none of my weddings ever cost me much money.... 2 wives died and the one I am married to now I have been with since 2015.. we were married.. about 12 months after we met..
Oh.. and definitely no children out of wedlock......marry the person...

Something that really bothers me is when someone expresses a need during a difficult time and they’re told simply that they would pray for them. Prayer is awesome but it’s often times a cop out or a reason not to help that person and they walk away thinking they’ve done a wonderful thing and pat themselves on the back. It’s hard for someone who has lost their job and doesn’t know how they will feed their family or keep the lights on to hear those words. We’re supposed to be the hands and feet of Christ! Surely a gift of some groceries or gas money would be better appreciated than a sometimes promise of prayer. We need to help each other. Feed the hungry, help the poor, take care of orphans and widows! Surely a hot meal dropped off at their home along with sincere prayer would be more helpful. Sorry for the rant. It’s something I feel strongly about. Hey, I’m guilty of this too. It’s something I want to change for myself.

BUT.. what needs to be done then is a 2 hour follow up talk session with the person we said that to ...explaining our position.. the error in saying those things is when people like maybe You or Brandon .. say these statements then just shut-up... that CAN NEVER BE... People need to make a stance and be forcefully adamant about it... say it then PREACH it!.. the others will be convinced it IS true.. or will never come to you again asking ridiculous questions like whether or not you believe what the bible says or not.. they will KNOW for sure what you believe...

His death was sudden to everyone else, but I expected it. I knew he was getting sick. I'd told my mom a week before he passed, and she assured me he was fine. Everyone gave me the better place line, but I knew, even if he were ready to go, he didn't want to go when he did. He'd just come to my graduation, he'd cleaned out his car, quit smoking even. Everything seemed ripe for a new lease on life to everyone else. I knew something had to have scared him. He wanted to spend a few days with me before he died, but stupid me had agreed to go to Tennessee for a week with my friends beforehand. I'd rather people just told me they had no idea how to talk about what had just happened

The ultimate authority belongs to him, what he allows or doesn’t, etc. thats why Jesus said to Pilate “you would have no authority over me unless it was given from…”what? “…from up above.” That is what makes God Omni-potent, Omniscient, etc. its part of the “wrestling” as you said before with life. Now God is not the author of Evil but allows it for his purposes. For God “only gives us what we can handle”

One of our church leaders taught us how to take care of that, so that we don’t falsely promise to pray for them. He said as he goes through the day and he he finds someone who needs prayers given he places them on the prayer roll of his heart. He knows he won’t remember the names by the end of the day so right there and then he says the name. That way it’s writing it on his heart and so that God can hear the names and know that he prays for them. I love this concept because it gets rid of the guilt I feel at not remembering a name. Quite often I’ll remember the situation of what needs to be prayed for and that really helps.

It seems complicated for even the Christian leaders. Being faithful is a persons personal belief in the expression. Of course the words are more than guidlines, we all should meditate on them. Here's an easy one... We shouldn't be telling people the will be going to hell if they don't stop doing or don't start doing such & such. We are not to judge... correct in kindness, but not judge, for we will be judged by the same standard. I'd rather let Yahusha judge with his mercy.

Well done! It seems we often quote bumper sticker sentiments, not contextualized biblical truths :) Another phrase I cringe at is, "God won't give you more than you can handle." Yikes -- nowhere does the bible say that, nowhere does it imply it by parable or psalm or historical narratives or .... anything! Again, it makes God look like a cosmic ogre from whom we shouldn't ask help, because if it's happening to us, WE must be able to handle it, after all. It implies He GIVES us MORE of whatever "more" is, but we can suffer through it for the reason of...hmmmm, dunno!

That phrase is a misuse of 1 Corinthians 10:13.
There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
Whatever the situation is, God gives us grace. Jesus is the Way.

Thank you SOOOO much for #3. It reflects a doctrine of predetermination that is not substantiated in scripture. I always think of Ecclesiastes 9:11: “time and chance happeneth to them all…” (KJV). Without that single phrase, I could not accept God in any sense, let alone Christianity.

If "everything happens for a reason" is not true, then we end up with questions about how powerful God really is and the words "you intended it for evil, but God intended it for good" are impossible. I will agree those words are often used in a useless way.
I fear God not because He obeys the Law, but because the Law obeys Him.

"All things" include good things, not just bad things.
The statement is always used for encouraging those who are going through bad things. It becomes to mean, in the emotions, that only bad things work together for good. It causes people to gravitate towards bad things, since they work together for good.
We should gravitate to good things, not gravitate towards misery.
All things work together towards good, even good things!

Excellent. We need to be more empathetic to anyone who has suffered loss. To say everything happens for a reason may be true but it is not what people want to hear when they're suffering. I think a better response might be, "I don't know why you are having to suffer this, but I'm hear to listen and to share your sorrow. God wants to offer you comfort for your pain."

I began watching you with The Chosen talks. I really learned so much today. My husband was bedridden for 7 years before he passed. I loved repeating Jerimiah; it gave me peace BUT now the "you" wasn't me. And with the UMC split, I found peace in that also. So if the words give us peace, is it harm to think the words were for us. I am new in the Bible at age 80, sorry to say that. But I am really trying to catch up.

I have basically given up on prayer, and I certainly stopped telling people that I would pray for them. Telling them that would be lying and lying is a sin. Besides, it's harmful. I quit praying about a year ago because God doesn't like my prayers anymore. I don't know why, but He doesn't. Whenever I pray, the situation Always gets worse! ALWAYS. It is what it is.
