I'm from the 90's..they fid a great job on this...I am very proud of them. They used elements of New Jack Swing, Naughty by Nature, Kacee and Jojo, and even Boys II Men and New Edition. And the song of Bruno Mars is actually from a show from the 90's called "In Living Color". It was its theme song. And I wouldn't be surprised if the producer was Teddy Riley. They have used him before. And he is one of the creators of New Jack Swing with Blackstreet's song "No Diggity."

Great reaction! I absolutely loved this comeback. I thought I was getting burnt out on the retro releases this year, but this song was soooo FRESH as you said. The way they transitioned between old school to new school was amazing. And as a 90 kids it was definitely nostalgic to me. They even sampled one of Busta Rhymes verses in this which I thought was really cool! And there were some synths that gave me “California Love” vibes. All around amazing production and I’m so happy that Ten also got to shine during his high note with Haechan. NCT keeps coming with the hits and I’m here for it :) ❤️
Its ok to praise SM once in a while they really focus on quality and even with NCT being about quantity they are still EXTREMELY CONSISTENT SM is excellence. They go way out there but dont make a mess, they make innovation. They're pretentious, mean and vile but they are extremely smart, daring and refined.
What I noticed though recently is SM likes to have 2 high notes in their music since SuperM Tiger Inside, ONE and now 90's love it's a new SM trademark for 2020. Sungchan's deep voice sounds really good his rapping compliments Marks voice as well. This song is very good and really showcases how much talent NCT has.
You are so on point with this. The first time I heard Sungchan rap, I had to pause because of his raptone...I felt like he was the perfect fit to match Mark and Taeyong esp, and also he has a rhythmic lazy rap style which is a good contrast too.
It's late, but I going to point out, 2 highnotes are nothing in SM. I mean, they have all 5 members of TVXQ doing highnote adlibs in one song. Or all 4 members of The Grace doing highnote adlibs in one song too. So 2 members is actually SM normal stamdard. You should check out their songs.

You should check the likes of TVXQ's Love in the Ice, Rising Sun, Don't say Goodbye, etc. Or The Grace's My Everything, Renew, Dancing in the Rain, etc. All the members did.

I LOVE THE SONG! NCT always come up with sickk beat and the song structure itself is amazing. and i do agree with you tht sm is really best with tht stacked vocal chanting. it was produced amazingly like it doesnt sound too heavy or noisy.
I agree with everything you said especially the amazing vocal production.. SM always makes sure that all members of the group vocally blends well together, even if not everyone is in the vocal line. Maybe this is the reason why SM groups are some of the few ones who sing their hooks altogether and not just the main vocals.
SM never disappoints with the quality of music honestly and the members are amazing for making this song their own. There is just so much SM offers in each song with even the instrumental, so many layers and I'm always a HUGE fan of the ad-libs. Personally, SM does ad-libs the best and you can especially hear it in NCT's music. Like you said, this song is SO refreshing! Happy to have a throwback to the 90's with a refreshing spin to it.

Try to listen to SHINee 1of1 if you're talking about new jack swing. If you can you have to listen 1of1 full album. They released it in 2016 one album full of retro songs. SHINee is also from SM. Yeah SM has set the standard since so long.
Wow I'm dying to know which companies wanted Boss style damn. I liked this song/concept but I wasn't caught on it but it definitely grew on me. I think this style can get old/boring quick if more groups did it Make a wish was definitely more my style.
I loved the idea of taking everyone in the group and making songs for all of them. And out of the 5 or 6 songs that they had for this comeback, the only one that really did work for me was "Work it". I still liked it, bit to me it did git them as a whole. However, since I'm from the 90's, and no I don't mean I was born in the 90's, but I gave birth to my daughter in the 90's. So I know that type of music. And I caught on to what you said about how a lot of group try and re create an old style of music and it doesn't work. In this case it did work...and I mean it really worked. It also doesn't hurt that one of SM's previous producers was the co creator of New Jack Swing, Teddy Riley from Backstreet (No Diggity). So I guess u can say they had a head start on that aspect. I am very proud of the guys for an amazing tribute to the 90's style....
