I met those guys at a hobby convention in the Chicago suburb of Rosemont back in the day. The engine was stunning, but beyond my means at the time. The reason that they put the resin in the crankshaft is to reduce the volume of the crankcase, As the piston rises, the air pressure in the crankcase is reduced and this is the way that fuel/air mixture is forced into the crankcase. With the volume reduced, there is a greater pressure forcing the fuel/air mixture up the transfer ports into the combustion chamber when the piston descends. We did this on two-stroke motorcycle engines back in the 70s with Styrofoam plugs held in with epoxy. Good set of videos!
Gorgeous manufacture, i think the head and head button are made with pieces of 6061 aluminium stock not so many engines used the button head something like norvel i don't remember at this moment others with 2 piece heads, really beautifull manufacture.
Je suis désolé de vous corriger. Ce n'est pas le composant nitro qui fait rouiller mais simplement le méthanol qui est hygroscopique et surtout les résidus de combustion qui sont acides . So ...
Actually the nitro is also a component that contributes to rust formation also. GLOW Engines. "Here is a breakdown of the damaging effects that glow fuel has on your model airplane engines: 1. Methanol is hygroscopic, meaning that it readily absorbs water from the air. 2. Nitric acid is a main ingredient of nitromethane and it is a highly corrosive mineral acid. 3. Nitromethane is classified as an oxidizer in the presence of water and oxygen. The bottom line is that it works to change the state of steel and aluminum (rust and corrosion)." aeroscott.com/care-feeding-rc-engine-glow-gas/
Cox Conquest .15 and Rossi .15 had buttons. I think it has a brass ring to retain the epoxy filler onto the crankshaft. Engines designed for FAI fuel probably have more compression than ones designed for nitro fuels, with that 5-10% would be plenty.

Thank you.

Rossi engines gave button heads too. It’s a sign of a quality engine as is the investment cast block. A sweet engine of high quality

Yeah! Rossi is what I was thinking of. The Rossi 40 I have now has that style of head.
