    Pearl's song (It's Over Isnt It) is definitely one of the most beloved in the fandom! It's basically a song about unrequited love.
    Steven's mother, Rose, ceased to exist after he was born. She basically "dead" in a sense, but Pearl loved her romantically. But Rose fell in love with another person, a human named Greg. So Pearl is venting her emotions towards having to take care of Rose's son, who is also the son of the one person who took Rose from her.

    • @L2Sentinel
      @L2Sentinel Рік тому +27

      Pearl is my favorite, so I'm biased, but I truly think she is one of the most complex and well written characters in the show, and her character arc is probably the most significant to the main plot aside from Steven's. And the fact that she also has the most amazing singing voice is a huge bonus. Deedee Magno Hall was perfectly cast.

    FUN FACT each character has their own instrument that comes in to play when they sing. do it for her/him(training song) is a great example of this pearl tall white skin with the gem on her forehead has a piano and the dark skin girl connie has violins, if you listen closely you can hear it starts with the piano in the front as pearl leads connie. but you can hear the violins move to the front as she goes on with her training the violins taking over the lead when connie herself is singing only to switch back to piano when pearl takes back over and the piano overshadows the violin when pearl shows the video about her past.

    All of these songs were shown within episodes and are a part of the episode's/movie's/show's plot. _Steven_ _Universe_ is an excellent show. Its conflict is heavily sewn into characterization, so no matter what happens, a character (or characters) are developed further. There's a giant dynamic/overall theme of living up to others' expectations and identity, and _Steven_ _Universe_ ends up dealing with those subjects in a way kids can understand. It's really a cartoon for all ages. Most episodes are slice-of-life or monster-of-the-week earlier on, but they get more serious as season one progresses. The deeper story overtly reveals its existence in the season one finale after dropping tiny hints throughout season one.
    It's no surprise to me why _Steven_ _Universe_ is praised on the same level _Gravity_ _Falls_ is. They're both excellent shows. I would say that _Gravity_ _Falls's_ pacing is more solid, but that was because the interference Alex Hirsch got from Disney wasn't nearly as bad as what Rebecca Sugar (SU's show-runner and song-writer + more) was facing over at Cartoon Network. Alex was allowed his two seasons to get his story out (even as he had to bob and weave through the inane notes Disney's executives threw at him). Cartoon Network wanted to cut back on SU as Rebecca Sugar fought to include the LGBT+ themes in SU. They had to squeeze two seasons worth of content into one season, causing the show to feel those pacing-issue pains. It couldn't be helped, and I'm really glad we got what we could get. I can't recommend SU enough! :)

    • @RandomnessGirl309
      @RandomnessGirl309 Рік тому +5

      Actually that wasn't cartoon network. International which is responsible for a lot of the funding for the show and the international release of SU said that if she went through with the wedding funding would be cut. CN said they like what Rebecca was doing and didn't want to comment on it but had to. Rebecca did the wedding anyway and funding was cut which decreased the life span of the show and decreased the time they had to work on the show

    • @noremac7216
      @noremac7216 Рік тому +8

      @@RandomnessGirl309 the way you stated that makes it sound like there's a company called international that works with cartoon network but there's not. Cartoon Network chose to cut the funding for Steven Universe because explicit LGBT content like a wedding can't be aired overseas and therefore they couldn't make money on international releases. It was very much cartoon network's decision. And it's also not an issue that give the crew this much money to make this many shows they greenlight the episodes and they chose not to renew the show for another season

    here are some notes i took while watching this video about the context or any questions he asked:
    -i started watching around 2014 (when i was 6) and now im 15 and still love watching content about it, it really is a masterpiece of a show
    -all gems are actually girls, so the person garnet (the person singing stronger then you) is actually a girl not a guy
    -the va of garnet is actually the singer of american boy
    -most of the characters in these videos are gems, except for steven, connie (stevens friend) and his father, steven is a half gem and hes the only gem thats a male
    -butterflies in here comes a thought represent thoughts and emotions
    -during here comes a thought, the two singers are fusions and the two gems that they show are them unfused. whoever is singing shows what gems they are
    -the songs are actual scenes in the show, not a music video
    -the va of pearl (deedee magno hall) actually peformed way better on the song (its over isnt it) then they expected, and they loved it so much they redid the entire scene to match the intensity of the song
    -the thing on pearls forehead yes is indeed a gem, all gems have different placements of their gem so some are half hidden
    -the person who writes the songs is rebecca sugar, the person who created this show. she also sang the outro for the show, love like you
    -the song (its over isnt it) is about pearl being in love with stevens mother because they went through so much with eachother, but when stevens mum met greg she fell in love with him, and pearl didnt think she would choose him over her, but she did and had a son with greg. but to have a son, she had to give up her physical form to become part of steven, so she no longer exsists. thats why steven is half gem half human, he has his mothers gem.
    -they hired the voice actors on not just how well they could voice act, but how well they could sing because songs are such an ingrained part of this show
    -the audio shouldnt be muffled for change, i think its just the video
    -yes, that is the main character of the show, and yes his name is steven. in the movie though (where the song change is from, hes a bit older then in the show)
    -pearl is teaching connie to fight for steven in the song do it for her, but when she says "her" shes refering to rose, stevens mother because pearl used to fight for her, and i guess she still kinda sees a bit of rose in steven
    sorry, i know this video was posted a while ago, i just made this anyways just incase you wanted some of your questions answered

    Steven Universe the series is about a boy gifted (or cursed) with a special legacy, and how he matures over the years. It's a quite long series--five regular seasons, plus a movie and one aftermath series--and is deeply into character development. it's part morality play, part mystery.
    It was created by Rebecca Sugar, and the voice actors of all of the main characters, and the important guest characters, had to be singers as well.
    Yes, each of the clips were from the show itself, and were part of episodes crucial to the overall story.

    The shortest, least spoilery explanation for the context of It's Over Isn't It, is that the singer (Pearl) lost the love of her life to the man sleeping inside the room, who then basically ended her life to have a child (the boy, Steven, who wakes up and hears her singing). She's his mother figure and also having to coparent with the guy her beloved left her for - not just dumped her for, but she effectively died in order to have a kid with him.
    And to be vague enough to hopefully intrigue without ruining an excellent surprise, "Here Comes A Thought" (the song about mindfulness) looks like there are six people in the video, but there are actually either four or two depending on how you look at it :)

    It was around 2013 when it aired, I watched every episode when they had came out, I was around the age of 8, now im 18 having watched all 5 seasons, the movie, and the short mini series as well as a bunch of songs within the show that stay perfectly still in my heart today. It's a show that manages to tackle on subjects not many cartoon companies can really aim to talk about in such a fashion that this one manages to do meanwhile keeping its kiddie nature, warm colors, and beautiful art and story. I think you'll love the show if you ever give it a chance.

    Here comes a thought is the best song in the show to me by far. Perfect in every sense both vocally, instrumentaly, vibe wise, and lyrically

  • @shanegibson3281

    that second song, here comes a thought is about getting through problems between partners (of various sorts), in this case a fusion, which is a personification of two beings becoming one (which is a thing they can do in the show)
    which means they need to be able to get over negative feelings.

    Steven Universe is a slow burn - the first season, basically, is all foreshadowing and buildup leading into everything. Give it a shot, but keep that in mine if you’re looking for something fast-paced!

    One thing about the 4th song is that it was from the steven universe movie and for some reason all of the voice audio on the dvd and on tv for me at least does sound abit off I’m not sure if they had different microphones but the show normally does have quite a good sound quality

    I started watching Steven Universe when it was about halfway through season 2, so I must've been 17 or 18 back then and I think it was around 2015 or 2014 at the earliest. I ended up sticking with it until the end, for better or worse. It's probably the only show I've stayed with for so long.

    I am one of the most OG fans of the show, literally wanting to watch it when the pilot came out. When he is saying all this stuff like "Is this story driven or is it just a random music video" I am about to explode wishing I could answer and over explain all this shit.

    Songs 1 and 2 make little sense out of context, surprised you weren't asking who they were talking about or the other characters on screen. But third song it is said in song but you maybe missed it the one singing was the loser in a love triangle, the guy on the bed was the winner but the mother of Steven *the kid* "passed away" (to put it in simplest conceptual terms), and the one singing feels she is responsible to look after Steven as Steven is effectively the heir and the one singing was "like" a family butler/lover of the mother (it is really hard to describe these characters without spoiling anything). Song 4 is from a final fight in the movie (which takes place after the show...before the epilogue mini series Steven Universe Future), which is also why Steven has a different design (older) and a deeper voice.
