I'd like to make a larger ones of this, say 30cm wide or even metre wide as a floor mat. I have 6mm cords to use. I guess it's all the same technique...I'm thinking I have to multiply x 3 for a 30cm mat
@@melissagorogo1008 I'd advise also to make your Long Cord extra long (just in case! so you have space to keep going if necessary), especially since the thickness of the cord is different. And be careful about the tension of your cord as you knot (I tried to make a larger one and it kept curling into itself).
@@idawnsm hey thank you for that. Am a newbie so any help is so much appreciated. I started a mini size last night and need to re-do. My brain and knots!!!

Can you believe someone wanted to make a floor mat out of macrame? Can you imagine spending all the hours and money making one and then walking on it with dirty shoes/feet? Crazy idea. 🤣🤣👎🙄😫🙏
Hello , thank you for this beautiful and well explained tutorial. These coaster are such an inspiration, i really love to make those. I was thinking to make a carpet with this pattern, what you would recommend as the length of the strings to begin with? How long should they be so to make a round carpet?
Thank you very much for this video! I just saw a macrame coaster on Pinterest today which I loved and was hoping I could find some tutorial and baaaam.... here it is :)
Hi! I am a little confused at about 3:11 in the video where you go back and show the folded cord that has the one long end. I am not sure exactly where this is supposed to be placed. Is it one of the five cords that you do the larks head knots for in the beginning or ??? Also, please confirm the length of this cord. Otherwise, very easy to understand and very pretty! Thank you!
Thank you for your reply! OK, now within the five cords, where should it be placed? On the end? In the middle? I’m a little confused as to its purpose. Sorry! I am new to this and just want to be sure I am doing it right. 🙂 Thank you for your help!
I heard that using a cat brush is great for combing out the threads at the end and also that white is the easiest colour to deal with regarding stains as you can just bleach them out.P.S I'm writing a blog post up about macrame and I've featured your coasters and video and added your info i.e website and youtube links. :)
Thanks so much for sharing this tut! Just a few tips tho. 1. You had way too much wasted cord, so use less next time. 2. Cut your fringe as close as you can before combing, this way you’ll have less to unravel. 3. Before the combing process take your fringe and vigorously slap in against something solid, for this size piece I like to use my thigh. I discovered this little trick by accident, but it works miracles by separating the twisted rope a good bit before having to comb 👏🏽 3. Yes, they stain very easily! I even dyed my cord dark green bf I made another coaster, in a diff design, and spots are still very obvious. I’m thinking maybe treating them with starch may help, but... 🤷🏼♀️ Again thanks for sharing 😘
I wonder if a water repellent spray, like what you’d use on shoes would help to keep them clean. But I don’t know if they’d be okay against heated pots. Or, just soak them in vinegar and baking soda when they get dirty.
That seems amazing. Depending on the stiffness of the cord, after you finish make sure the ends stay upright, maybe use fabric stiffener ou even hairspray. Let me know the result
Did my first macrame coaster today (my first macrame proj actually) but it was a bit wavy. I'm not sure if its bcos i tightened it too much or should've i added more cords?
Hey. Nice video! I have a problem though, whenever I go further I reach a point where the following knot is really far away from the main cord. Should I add more cords or what would you recommend?
I don't remember if I came across the same problem, I don't think so, but maybe try adding a new filler cord in between each of the main ones, see if that is enough, if not maybe test with two filler cords, but I would not add more than that
I'm so sorry but I actually dont know, I haven't tried it that way, but cutting the rope doesn't really seem like the best solution, won't they become undone?
@@94arance How about brushing some Fray Check around the edge before you cut off the excess fringe, do this on the top and bottom of your coaster edge where you want to cut. That will help to keep it from unraveling and it dries clear.
Here's three things you can try: iron the piece once in a while, do not pull on the cords too much or tie them too tight, and don't forget to add plenty of filler cords. Try these and let me know if it worked.
The video is great and explained well, but when I tried to make it, it came out terribly. I tried it twice and it didn’t work at all. Anyone else have any problems??
