    Painting the top surface of that sterling engine flat black would help it absorb more heat from the sun and may create a greater temperature difference. I was not aware these worked with cold/hot and hot/cold. I always learn something new here.

    When you did the previous video I thought for sure this would be the next step and so it was. Now the only thing left to do is take the rocket stove, and the cooler put some barrier between them and make a larger sterling that can generate real power lol. Brilliant. I had this sort of thought after your vid yesterday.
    I ran across a vid recently explaining pop-pop boats, as I was wondering if the concept could be used for a solar water pump. but I was surprised to discover they work like a stirling engine with water being the piston, which was pretty cool.
    It seems like that notion, with a blacked metal tank for your "boiler" and the evaporative cooler for your cold side, would be pretty easy to rig up. I seem to recall you made a liquid piston one out of tubing didn't you?
    (incidentally, on the water pump, I came to a Maybe on that, if one added check valves to ensure the water only flowed one way, sort of ram-pump style. It seemed like a potentially useful concept.)

    Great little experiment as always Rob. Here's an interesting idea that might be worth a go, how about using underground temperature difference vs ambient air to run a Stirling engine too? Obviously ground source works as we know, but might be fun to show a working example with a stirling engine to see the mechanics of ground source temperature differential recovery even on a smaller scale.

    Are there any drawings, plans available to build a large stirling engine that puts out meaningful energy? Imagine this things strapped on to the exhaust of a vehicle engine which is like 800 deg C and the IC engine has 80% efficiency in producing and wasting heat which this thing picks up and turns into usable energy. Or imagine a satellite dish focusing the sun onto one of its sides which is blackened while the other side is dipped in water or connected to a heatsink buried deep underground. So much savings. Or even off grid survival.

    What was the number of the video you made about phase change materials? Doesn't urea get cold when you wet it? It would be neat to see if that could be integrated into this evaporative cooling system. Something combining phase changing materials, heat pumps, and AC, would have plenty of buzz words for the UA-cam algorithm 😁.

    • @ThinkingandTinkering

    • @McRootbeer
      @McRootbeer 2 роки тому

      @@ThinkingandTinkeringIt is, thanks. I was thinking that besides the diy AC,. Maybe the cooling reaction of urea could be used on the rocket stove Stirling engine? If it could be cycled to cool the cold side then be dried out again by the heat of the stove, maybe it would perform better than just a water jacket.

    sticking it to a big CPU cooler, upside down, then covering the cooler so the sun light isn't hitting it, might be running good ! with some thermal paste in between of course, now I'm thinking, with a big enough cooler it might work on low sunlight ! of course the big CPU coolers are rather expensive, so it might not make much sense from a financial standpoint, unless you build on a large scale maybe and use the fans for another project (like a fan wall), some are cheaper though I think arround 30 ish, so we can imagine maybe 6-8 of them stuck to a huge heatsink, be curious to see what kind of output it could generate, would be nice to be able to get high quality cheap stirling engines

(like the noctua NHD 15) I was also thinking.. perhaps there is a way to use car engine radiator and somehow adapt it for such a project.. even better for a large scale project if you can find a truck or even tractor one (not sure if the tractor engines have coolers but I think it should..) and then the problem is these use liquid cooling so it might be a bit tricky to adapt it to such a project, just thinking out loud there, it would be much easer to just stick a sterling engine to a passive heatsink I guess ..
