Those were all some very nice looking heifers, glad you guys were able to bring one home. Hopefully you’ll get many more good offspring from her. Thanks for bringing us along 👍
Morning BP and CP. Nice Christmas present you got yourself there CP. She looks well along in calf and I’m sure she’ll make a great cow and start of your purebred herd. Well done.
Yep, we fed with an open station David brown with a 3pth bale spear till about 2001. When I was a kid, lots of times we would use a car hood behind the snowmobile and would drag bales to the cattle with it. Use to have an old Massey round baler made 4x5 bales, so we could tip them over onto the car hood. Way prefer these cab tractors, but we made it work.
Hey BP & CP...that was a interesting sale. I didn't know Mrs. South Sask Farmer was selling at that sale. I knew she had 2 for sale. Enjoyed the vidjya friend!
Good morning, BP and CP. Nice story about the early days. Not much fun on open tractors in bad weather. Good purchase at the sales. There were some big prices there by the sound of it. 👍
Hey BP and CP, fed cows for many years dad starting with a cockshutt 50 on a farmhand F10 loader . In 1979 he graduated to a JD 3020 on that same loader. Had a heat houser with the umbrella so wasnt too bad for cold. Our secondary loader tractor was a JD A with a farmhand f10 loader. In 2004, I bought the 4450 Mfd. Finally got a cab! Lol. Thats a top end sale for those breeders so its usually a good one. Ya did good CP, should work out well for you. Amanda is doing a good job with her cattle herd! 👍
My dad used to feed cows with a open station David Brown 995 2wd with a loader he’d have one bale in the front and one in the back even hauled hay with it pulling a big stack mover. He used that tractor for about 16 years then he bought a 643 universal 4wd with a cab and a loader.
Very nice video BCP, my Christmas present will be when I see Mochas taking a ride in Big Blue, She just chasing the blue thing, time She see what is it all about LOL
Breds sure jumped last week since we bought a couple weeks ago. Regular commercial cattle bred were selling up to $6000 last Saturday. Lots in the 4000 to 5500$ range. Bred heifers I paid $3500 for earlier were $4700 last weekend. But I shipped my biggest spring born steer that was leftover from shipping steers with my heifers this week. 780 lb at $4.03. So I guess that’s where the excitement is coming from. Lol.
Holy crap some of those heifers were fat. People say I over feed, and I probably do compared to most outfits around here but mine aren’t in that good of shape. I was taught you can’t starve the profit out of a cow.
I bought a purebred simmental bull in 2018. Paid big money. By January 2019 he was 4 feet in the air. Found out later he only bred 15 out of 27 cows. 3 of those calves never lived. Then we never got our crop off that fall. So I culled out 15 cows. What a disappointing chain of events.

Some damn nice looking cattle at the auction!!! In my opinion, Amanda has done an awesome job with her cattle!! Nice Christmas present CP!!!
@GosselinFarmsEdGosselin yes and yes she has
The great thing about the cattle business- Monsanto or the likes- don’t control the development of seed stock. A win for both herds in the making.
Great to see Amanda and the job she does with her herd.

Make that water a little warmer. On cold days like that the cattle like a hot drink first thing in the morning too😀
