Dude, your 5'11 and you look giant on a large. I'm 6'1 (6'2 on a good day) and they tried to tell me to get the large. I went with the XL. Haven't got it in yet but after seeing this video I know I made the right choice lol. Great vid and you're the only one that's mentioned anything about sizing and I appreciate that.
@@OIIIIIIIO.17 even the XL felt cramped, needed a stem extension. As far as I can tell size down if you want a more aggressive road bike position or size up for a more upright position. The top tube of the bike is extremely short and makes the bike feel cramped. other than that one gripe it is a bomb-proof bike. I have had it on single-track that I had no business being on with a rigid fork bike. It's a fantastic gravel/off-road bike.
@@Ryan-1337 Thanks! I plan on goin for it. Got side tracked looking at a few bikes including Priority gravel bike. Keep coming back to this for the price...
@@OIIIIIIIO.17 nice man! Just be mindful if you want a bike that's more closely related to a mountain bike than a road bike. This is it. If you want something closer to a road bike, say like the canyon grail.. this is not it. Other than that. Good luck and be safe !
You should do the test with proper tires from Schwalbe, Conti or other respectable brand. Kenda tires, throughout their portfolio, run like solid rubber boots for trucks, totally unacceptable. The well known Kenda Smallblock 8 is even beyond 40 Watts in tire tests. Insane!
i just ordered a canyon grail for twice this price last month before discovering this brand. would have seriously considered this brand if they shipped to Germany
These bikes are like those beats headphones you see in the those claw machine/games. All the packaging is so close to identical but it actually says feats
Nice review. Got a xs. I like it. Have commuted 20 mi a day on it for a month. Very fun, not fast. Also want to build up with, perhaps a jonesbar and a lauf. Might use it for GDMBR once I change a few things. Nothing wrong with microshift, but I'm a noob. Paint color is sweet, paint quality could be better. even at that price.
Angstspades: Do you mind me asking your height and your inseam length? Kinda stuck on selecting between the x-small and the small. Appreciate your input.
@@eag4real I'm about 5' 6" and inseam is 29"ish. I keep thinking I could have sized up, but just because of the toe overlap. I just have to think about where my feet are with sharp turns on descents. No regrets though because I really like the Redwood and can't wait to turn it into my monster bike packing rig. Didn't make it to the mountain bike trails today, but might do a test tomorrow before the rain. Got almost 400 miles on it commuting every day while I overhaul my Felt Broam. Hope this helps.
Angstcapades Yes, I am also 5’6”” with 29” inseam. Do you think by moving up to a small frame that the toe over lap would be eliminated? Also at X-small how is stand over clearance? Do you feel a small would be to tall? Sorry for all the questions but this info would surely help. Thanks again for your input.
@@eag4real I think the numbers on their site are good, but we are at the top end of the height recommendation for xs. I don't have anything on my channel yet or I would say watch that (shameless plug). I've met Russ and he is similar size, and looks fine on the Small. I don't want to steer you wrong. I think you'll have less toe overlap but the wheelbase from Xs to S is like 1cm. Stack and reach are probably more important, maybe compare those to a bike you already fit well on. It's a hard decision, I know. Hope I'm helping.
Great review as always the only thing preventing me from pulling the trigger is the fit I definitely want a more relaxed geo as this will be my second gravel bike for bike packing and sandier stuff that my bike can’t get through. You should check out the survey extra terrestrials I think they would be great they are a little bigger but roll better on road
@@LockedinCycling Yeah, I only have 2, Redwood and a Felt Broam, and I can barely afford a bottle cage. Loved the live X Redwood comparison. Keep it up.
thx for review! looking at this bike for bikepacking and more road then gravel. How do you think it will handle thinner tire for road and some light gravel when needed on trip? best M
Ma Ni watch my live stream tonight comparing this and the Poseidon x , I will have question section at the end. I’d try to fine a slicker 650 in the 50mm range at minimum
Just took my first ride on this bike. I had "toe overlap" with the front tire hitting my shoes. I guess this is inevitable with the geometry of this bike?
Marty Smith yea it happens, I adopted a thing when I road fixed gear , around tight corners I drop my heel and point toes up, since fixed toe over lap is deadly 😢
Question for you, I’m between this and the X (complete beginner to riding) I want to ride some leisure paths and suburban road areas. I feel the X is better for road based on your video. But the tubeless ready rims of the Redwood make me feel it’s a little more future proof. Is it still comfortable to ride on roads?
@@Stormeyespeed they aren’t , the wheels are tubeless compatible are. I have made a setup like this tubeless though. Check out my budget tubeless setup video
Not odd at all, its definitely not design specifically for women or men in my opinion. The sizing is on the smaller side, so shorter riders are well suited regardless of gender. The handlebar width and stem length may need to be changed if you find them to wide, or stem too long.
So the geo for this bike feels more like a road bike not a mountain bike right? Your upper body is angled like if it was a road bike and that makes me wonder about the comfort aspect. I'm 6'3", long legs so thinking XL. I just don't want to find out that the bike feels like my road bike regarding posture.
It’s defiantly more slack and has way longer wheel base then a road bike, you can compare geo chart between it and your road bike. For your height defiantly go xl
I've got a loose left crank arm that just doesn't want to stay on, any advice on what would be a good replacement crank arm? I've been waiting for a reply from Poseidon, but it's been nearly a week and I really wanna get back on the trails soon. LBS doesn't have a good replacement for my that will fit
That’s strange, I’d make sure u have grease on the crank bolt threads and on the sprinkle and re tighten. Some don’t recommend greasing axle but I never had an issue, it allows you to have no fricition so you can fully tighten it up. Replacement wise Look for a sram mtb gxp non boost crank
There’s the piece the axle threads into on the non drive side of the frame, the piece isn’t attached to the frame or fork, so when u unthread it , the piece falls out
I emailed Poseidon and they ship to Europe with a dedicated bike carrier. Price on application. If the bikes weren't sold out now I'd definitely get one sent here to Italy; even with duty it looks like a bargain.
farid rahman I have one on my channel, it is the original build, so you can take all the facts about it, and just listen to the part about Microshift from this review. Since the x now has microshift
It comes partially assembled like all bikes that are new. It’s always recommended to have a shop build it if you’ve never been properly trained how to assemble and adjust a new bike so it’s safe.
