My coworker told me this, and I always remember this many years later, and that is make sure the bathroom is clean; the tile, baseboards, and whatever else because they are a captive audience when they sit down and they may sit for a bit and so they’re gonna look around and notice things.
Great tips. I am very picky about my home. All the things you listed I clean monthly. Although I'm legally blind, I told myself I never wanted to have an untidy or messy house. It's minimal, tidy, and most of all organized. I enjoy your channel so much. I've learned a lot from you over the years. Not just for home keeping, but for being a good host and showing hospitality as the Bible teaches.
Nikki, you hit the nail on the head with this one! Baseboards and corners, especially dirty white trim, can really make a room look bad. I judge a restaurant’s cleanliness by how clean their bathrooms are. One other thing I notice in a home is the sliding glass door track. Some are pretty gross. I host Christmas and have a lot of decorations so put them up the week before Thanksgiving to make the holiday less stressful.
I confess mine was and I tried a pick and could not remove the dirt. Maybe they should do how to clean the track? I think part of it was I inherited the dirt when I bought it and it got worse.
Yes! And the same for sliding window tracks. If the grime has built up and dried, spray first and let it sit for a few minutes, then brush it off using an old toothbrush or stiff-bristled brush from the hardware store.
We do a big fall clean before Halloween and we decorate the first weekend after Halloween. This really allows us to enjoy the holidays and have guests over without worrying about the home.
I also have to remember to clean the vents in each room, they can get really dusty. I got a coffee maker last year for Christmas and I did not realize how much work it is to keep it clean.
Hey Nikki, friend girl 🤗. Thank you! I thought I was by myself. Yes, I truly feel the “clean” in my home after I’ve dusted, scrubbed, mopped, and polished. It’s a great feeling, isn’t it? When am I going to start cleaning and decorating? Soon. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it 😂🥰
You are an inspiration. I have a tiny apt. kitchen and actually washed my ceiling and walls. I started out with a step stool and lysol wipes but changed to a microfiber cloth wrapped on a broom with a rubber band and a spray bottle. I feel so good now. I didn't realize buildup of cooking grease in such a small space. Sometimes you have to look all around as if you were a stranger to see what needs cleaning. I also think its better to clean in the morning light or else I just don't see dirt lol in evening all looks clean and tidy.
As soon as everyone vamooses after Thanksgiving dinner, I will begin the cleanup with your tips and the tree will go up with lights only. I'll relax with a glass of wine and enjoy the lights and some scented candles and reflect on all the things I'm grateful for this year.🤟
Great tips Don’t forget doors especially near the knobs get grungy Kitchen cabinet doors especially by the handles After dusting the baseboards I use a cheap dollar tree mop on the rod for easy cleaning
Hi Nikki! I include baseboards as part of my zone cleaning so they stay clean all the time. Thanks for the night switch reminder! I am going to include them now as well as part of my zone cleaning. We decorate the day after Thanksgiving.
I’m glad others like cleaning too 😊 I listened to see if I miss anything but all these get done during zone cleaning all year. But good idea to blitz all the hot spots at once right before holidays!
Thanksgiving week...2 days cleaning; 2 days cooking; 2 days shopping and/or working and cleaning up....and Thanksgiving happens somewhere between day 4 and 5. I am ready for a personal day. The only thing I "missed" on your list was the light switch covers....even wiped down the doors and the backsplash behind the stove top. Great suggestions!
Thanks for getting to the point and being respectful of our time! I love fall colors, so I am sure to decorate for Thanksgiving with a fall leaf garland, pumpkins, and gold lights on the mantle. This can go up before Halloween, so I avoid any obvious Halloween decorations and save time. Plus, I think Halloween decorations are tacky-looking. The Christmas tree will go up anytime I have the ambition!
Done & Done before Thanksgiving (my grandmother had this thing about decorations being down before the New Year which I've always followed). This year I think I'll take the decorations down the weekend after the New Year begins. The beautiful season goes so quickly. Thank You Nikki for getting us together over the years and I've shared you to so many of my friends. My home thanks you for it. LOL. Blessings to you and yours this and every season. I know your decor this year will be the bomb. Elegance at its highest on a budget.LOL😘
Love all your great advice! I will start cleaning tomorrow and decorating this Saturday. I love the holiday decorations. I decorate the rooms in the back with Christmas decor and keep the fall decor up in the front rooms until the day after Thanksgiving. Wishing you a beautiful Friday and weekend ahead! Love, Eileen, Silicon Valley Mom
I’m actually surprised you didn’t mention inside the fridge and a dirty oven. Those two things are pretty important to be clean in my eyes when having guests over because what if they wanna grab something out of the fridge and it looks covered in pet hair. Super gross. And when you open your oven, everyone is gonna see inside there.
I give little hints of Christmas in mid November, and I go all out on the day after Thanksgiving. I don’t participate in Black Friday, so I just enjoy decorating on that day. 😊
I agree 💯 percent, my friends say I’m ocd and I’m extra but I believe in a thorough cleaning I mean you have to really get down and clean everything from top to bottom. One a big pet peeve of mine is a nasty oven. No one wants any food out of your oven if it’s nasty .thanks again for sharing all your tips. I’m sure a lot of people need to see this video.
Nikki, I’m so surprised you didn’t mention artwork. The dust that collects on pictures is unreal, especially those cute canvas pictures we get from Home Goods and Burlington.
I clicked on this so fast! Lol. And I notice dirty base boards too 😂. And the shirt look in the opening of your video looks niceeeeee Nikki! Lol thanks for the video!
Hi Nikki, your kitchen inspired us to do a complete renovation on ours. It's done just in time for the holidays. Thank you for all you do Friend Girl 😀
Hi Nikki, I am going to move in to new home next week.. wow what a challenge it is. Actually I am packing everything and the decor as well. Everything is also cleaned .. so perfect beautiful for new home. Greetings from Germany (Europe)
1st time viewer here & new subscriber. Excellent reminders !! And your smile in your intro as you open the door & welcome us in ? Priceless ! Thanks, Nikki !
Nikki Darlin, I wish the whole world would watch your videos & level up their clean❣️❣️❣️. What a better, brighter world it could be if everyone would just CARE about cleanliness🧡❤️💛
Hey Nikki, I wanted to say that this is a great video! These are all the things I do at our home. I am getting my Christmas stuff out way early this year. This will be our first Christmas in our new home we just finished building back since our forever home we had …burned completely on 1/7/21. We’ve had to start over in the middle of our lives after 23 years of marriage, 3 kids, and a lifetime of things gone. It has been very expensive to replace things…and if you love to decorate for Christmas the way I do…it’s very expensive. I started buying last year..especially clearances. That’s why I’ve started so early so that I can see what I have and what I don’t. I actually would love your help in my pantry…I have studied so many of your videos for organizing and it has helped me tremendously! I actually had done tons of organizational stuff in the home we lost and had bought very nice organizing things that are now gone. We were insured very well but it still doesn’t cover everything for sure! I should get in touch with you though about my pantry….just trying to recover financially…so we’ll see❤️but everything you do is beautiful and I always watch your videos! Thanks Nikki
Same story for my family. Fire was in July, 2020, but due to the pandemic, last Christmas was our first back in our home, as well. We learned a LOT of valuable lessons, especially what is really important in our life: family and friends. The End. 🙂
All of the things you've mentioned/listed, these are things that in general I try to keep on a regular rotation of my cleaning routine. In my opinion it makes it so much less overwhelming if you can kind of in incorporate a small extra once or twice a month. However my coffer maker gets a cleaning every day! Love all of your white vases I noticed up above your cabinets
I have been cleaning but it doesn't feel like it because I'm decluttering, organizing, giving certain areas of home a refresh with paint. I hope to be done by the end of month.
There's a microwave dish cover that really helps contain spatter...It cuts down the dirt in the microwave! My daughter had one & I loved it so I got one too!
I just moved and I am cleaning up after myself constantly. It feels so nice to have the house ready for anyone that comes to visit. I subscribed so I don't miss anything and get the tips I need to maintain my house. God bless and thank you for your help!
Hi Nikki, great tips! I am loving your consistent content lately. Been following you for years, you just get better and better. You are a real inspiration.
Thank you for these helpful tips. I use a small amount of essential oil on my glass especially the light globes. The oil keeps dust away for longer and when the bulb heats up it spreads a really nice smell. I always enjoy your videos. I put out my decorations the first week of December.
Love the tips - thank you so much for sharing! 😊 I can't stand a dirty microwave, and having shiny glass, mirrors, and table surfaces is so satisfying. Love the Bon Jovi T-shirt too - that's a great album! 🎶
I am doing my cleaning as you speak. I just cleaned bedroom carpet and put on all new bedding and polished the dressers before thanksgiving then I will pull out decor the weekend after thanksgiving so that I have decluttered and cleaned and can feel clean and airy throughout the holidays ❤🦃🦃
Thank you so much Nikki. Personally, I do not drink coffee. However, my brother, on the other hand, is a coffee connoisseur. He tells me, "The coffee maker is off-limits!!!" Oh well...
Hi Nikki! I have been doing my cleaning this week through Tuesday. On Wednesday I start preparing pies and cold diahes for Thanksgiving. Then the decorations come out on Friday!
I take a magic eraser to light switch plates and it works wonders. We have a decorative one next to our front door that has 4 switches so the plate is pretty long and it's textured with raised curly trim around it. When I clean that I always take the magic eraser to the trim around the door and especially the area the doorknob where fingers touch a lot.
Yes, I always notice dirty light switch plates (and the on/off small inscription - builds up on there!), baseboards, inside microwave and handles, fridge handle, and chandelier bulbs! Burnt out light fixtures always say "neglected maintenance" to me too!
OMG FriendGirl, THIS is the motivation I need. I started cleaning, but need to pace myself. But I totally agree about baseboards, they are the bane of my existence and the easy place to spot dust and dirt 😩😩😩 I have a house FULL of baseboards that I cannot hide LOL 😂
Nikki, as soon as I hear you voice, my voice screams at me and tells me “ move!! Go clean up!!!” 😂😂😂 Thank you for being such an incredible inspiration ❤
All so true.. but i m a single mum , full time working as an early years teacher. Honestly Iwould nee holidays to clean, but I also need holidays to unwind and get energy..😢
I have all white trim and doors so my very kind husband will help clean all of them. We usually take a Saturday( every other month) and scrub and dry off all doors, knobs, light switches, baseboards, all around window frames. 14 doors, 14 windows goes pretty fast. We do every room together while our favorite 60's, 70's music is playing. I think smells are what makes me think if a house is clean or not.
Watching this post holiday and my home definitely could use a cleaning in these areas. Thanks for pointing out some key but often overlooked spots 👍 I'll work on these spots this week!
I just randomly stumbled across your video, now I'm not only subscribing, I'm creating a new Playlist for cleaning motivation & this video is the first one on it! I'm definitely a December 1st person as far as Christmas decorations go. 🎄
Another place that I’ve noticed at many homes is the kitchen trash bin and area around it. I’ve seen splattered pieces of paper, food, dirt, etc. I’ve made a habit of wiping down the trash bin and area behind it after taking the trash out!
So glad you covered the microwave. I over heated some water before. I discovered that all the crevasses I can not get into, came out clean. But since then, I always wondered if the water in the microwave was safe to do. I always keep lemon in my frig. so I will tackle the microwave right now. I do clean it every time, when I do my dishes, but it never looks quite clean. What an excellent video.
Thank you for your tips. I always use dryer sheets to clean baseboards. Your kitchen is beautiful. Please share where you purchased the under cabinet lights. Thank you. Looking forward to your next video
Love you. This reminds me so much of my mom. When I was little my mom would get my dad to take my siblings and I out for the day so that she could do a thorough cleaning of our apartment without us underfoot. I remember going to the movies. But I remember coming home to that nice clean smell. Then mom would put out her decorations. But back then we children didn't decorate the tree. My mom and dad did that after we went to bed. My parents loved seeing our eyes light up when we came into the living room and saw the decorated tree all lit up with the gifts underneath. I remember that it was still dark out when we woke up. They told us that Santa decorated the tree.
I have been decluttering, cleaning, organizing then sometime next week I will decorate. I think I'm doing white black and green with my silver. Great tips and video as always✍️✍️
Thank you for the encouragement! I am a first of December holiday decorator. After watching this video, I am going to do some christmas cleaning right now! I especially like the idea of using a toothbrush on the lightswitch plates! Thank you!!
Door handles and even the surrounding parts where little kids tend to grab with their sticky fingers. ;) it’s something I always notice in my own home. Great video! Really been enjoying the recent content.
Yes! Keep the doors clean! Those dry erasers are good for this. I just wish more people would use them before posting videos on here😮. Ijs. I be seeing some pretty Grungy looking doors on videos 😳.
Once I got into the habit of using a dome-shaped microwave food cover, the task became much less dreaded. I got one for my sister and her family but I imagine it's hard to get an entire family into that habit. I rinse the dome with water every time I use it, and every so often the plate needs to be rinsed. The walls and roof rarely need cleaning.
My coworker told me this, and I always remember this many years later, and that is make sure the bathroom is clean; the tile, baseboards, and whatever else because they are a captive audience when they sit down and they may sit for a bit and so they’re gonna look around and notice things.
I never looked at baseboards😂
That is true.
Truth!
@@tamerajordan2982 you do notice them when they are dirty, not so much when they are clean.
Very True.
Bless all of you folks who decorate and host. That is not my ministry, nor is hosting ANYTHING or ANYBODY. Enjoy the holidays.
Yes, Yes, Yes...nothing like a clean house!
Great tips. I am very picky about my home. All the things you listed I clean monthly.

This is a great wisdom-rich comment. Touched my heart & mind. Very helpful to me. Thank you so much.
Thank you Nikki for all the tips. I think if we do a little in our homes everyday, housework doesn’t become too overwhelming.
Nikki, you hit the nail on the head with this one! Baseboards and corners, especially dirty white trim, can really make a room look bad. I’m the same way because if a Restaurant can’t take care of the areas Customers use what’s the Kitchen look like?
Yes I use old socks to keep these clean. It’s also part of my daily vacuuming routine.
Yes! And the same for sliding window tracks. If the grime has built up and dried, spray first and let it sit for a few minutes, then brush it off using an old toothbrush or stiff-bristled brush from the hardware store.

My Scottish Great Grandmother would say you can always tell the cleanliness of a kitchen by the state of the tea towels :)
Yes and it is important to iron them.
You are an inspiration. I have a tiny apt. kitchen and actually washed my ceiling and walls. Oh, another place that needs attention is heat vents. They can get pretty furry in a hurry. A dry toothbrush 🪥 is handy.
Happy Holidays!
First time here and my first reaction is YES this my type of gal!! Spotless kitchen. Pulled together look. I’m a fan already!

I know right? She is always like that which I love about her video I have been a sub for close to 9 years now.
Sticking glass item/vases in the dishwasher makes it brand new! I do this once a month. Makes it fresh and brand new.

I like your kitchen that it looks so gorgeous and so clean and so pleasant to look at, the lighting highlights a soft aspect with the crisp whiteness
Nikki, I’m so surprised you didn’t mention artwork. The dust that collects on pictures is unreal, especially those cute canvas pictures we get from Home Goods and Burlington.
Yep had my friend in my house for a year, that whole room was a dust bin. The fan, the top of the artwork, lamps.
Not to mention hanging artwork that is crooked.
Great advice. Wish I could find someone like you to help me clean my home.
I clicked on this so fast! Lol. And I notice dirty base boards too 😂. And the shirt look in the opening of your video looks niceeeeee Nikki! Lol thanks for the video!
It's true because you are so used to it your eyes don't catch it. As soon as your guests arrive they see it.

Dear Nikki just found your video your kitchen is lovely you have given me inspiration thank you lovely Lady Xx
Doing my winter cleaning this weekend. Love your videos btw! I’ve been subscribed for many years now! 😀
I love the content, my cleaning day is this Saturday then decorating for the holidays. ❤
There's a microwave dish cover that really helps contain spatter...It cuts down the dirt in the microwave! My daughter had one & I loved it so I got one too!

Hi Nikki,
I am doing my winter cleaning this Saturday and starting my decorating Sunday after church.
Love the baseboard cleaning & microwave cleaning ideas. I will be doing.
Don’t forget ceiling fans.
These are all great ideas but omg SO MUCH WORK.
Hi Nikki, great tips! I am loving your consistent content lately. Been following you for years, you just get better and better. You are a real inspiration.
Yes ,I must 😮clean before I reward my self with decorating. Thanks Nikki❤ My silver sparkles on the table but not always in the room.😊 thanks
Wow and here was I thinking they come over because they wanted to visit me and all the times they were inspecting my base boards!!
Thank you for these helpful tips. I use a small amount of essential oil on my glass especially the light globes. The oil keeps dust away for longer and when the bulb heats up it spreads a really nice smell. I always enjoy your videos. I put out my decorations the first week of December.
I guessed baseboards and refrigerator before watching the video, lol! But I notice all that you mentioned when I visit people’s home.
How have I just now discovered your channel? This is just what I need 😊
That’s the prettiest microwave I’ve ever seen.
Thumbs up to your colour choices and lighting.
Great video, thank you for the upload xx

Baseboards I notice in very home I walk into. A pet peeve of mine.
Hosting a friend's Christmas party December 3. Decorating for Christmas the weekend after Thanksgiving. Thank you for this cleaning spots checklist.

Your kitchen is beautiful. Love that backsplash!
Love your white kitchen!
Nice vid. Most people do not clean properly. Glass , mirror or chrome tables and edges get fingerprints easily. Your key areas are good idea.
Watching this post holiday and my home definitely could use a cleaning in these areas. Thanks for pointing out some key but often overlooked spots 👍 I'll work on these spots this week!

Thank you!!
I love your channel! I’ve been looking for a black Martha Stewart and I feel like I’ve found her😊❤
Love the reminder. Spring cleaning and pre-holiday season cleaning.
You didn’t mention the front door. I can tell whether someone has a clean house by just looking at their front door.
Thanks Nikki, great tips! I'll be incorporating these as I do my daily cleaning before decorating (as I undecorate fall). Blessings!
Thank you for these tips for every day. Very inspiring as always.
Ijs. I be seeing some pretty
Grungy looking doors on videos 😳.
These are great tips!
I will clean before I put out my Christmas decorations. Have a great day!
