As a Swiss Romand, for me real fondue is eaten only with bread and the only wine can be white wine. I feel like it's a tradition to eat it like that. Great video by the way. Fondue is always better eaten at home, but one of the best I know would be In Châtel-St-denis (Tivoli restaurant).
Fondue is so expansive in restaurants in Switzerland and i must say the quantity isn't enough for the price you pay usually. That's why most people like to do it at home i think. Also i don't know if you have tried it with white wine already but it's very suiting and mixes very well with fondue. Same if you never tried Raclette and like to have different ingredients to put with cheese you should definitly try it if you haven't already.
Fun video! Driving 8 hours for your wife is commitment, and why you two seem to have such a great relationship. I noticed a small error in the English translation, the waiter said that one of the wines was 'herber' and the translation said 'herbal'. 'Herb' in German means 'tart', or even 'harsh'. A small thing, appreciate the subtitles, as my Korean is non-existent.
I'm from Berne, nice Restaurant you choose 😉 As a side we have dry meat (swiss speciality), salami and pickled mushrooms. Sometimes cherry tomatos which can also take a bath in the cheese 😅
A fondue is not just melted cheese. So you can't just add cheese. Fondue is made with white wine, potato starch, kirsch and spices. You cook it slowly. That takes time
Awesome video as always, beautiful picture ! It is so interesting to see people coming from so far away to taste and appreciate good food from all over Europe, I cant stop watching this kind of content sometimes. Personally I cant wait to see you do a review of a good raclette as well as one for "la bouillabaisse" :DD

the mysterious thing about the German language is you never know how tap water is called locally. The waitress just looked at you irritated as you perfectly ordered "Leitungswasser" but it is referred to as "Hahn(en)wasser". In some regions it is even called Kranenwasser.
Fondue is usually made at home. Then all the additions are natural. I hope you enjoyed your stay here in Switzerland. It's been my home for 14 years now and I love it here!
Cornalin is one of the most interesting indigenous red wine varietals in Switzerland. My tip for a white with Fondue would be Räuschling. It's acidity really cuts through the richness of the cheese.
Most Swiss people eat fondue at home, since it is usually overpriced in restaurants. The benefit of eating it at home is, that you can mix and match however you like. You can add different cheeses to the blend and eat different side dishes. One of my favorite combos is actually radish kimchi with potatoes dipped in the cheese. White wine pairs really well with fondue, so do different kind of fruit brandies.

Viewer from Switzerland here 😊 Here some more imput to increase your expirence... Normally we have only Fondue as the main dish and everyone on the table eats Fondue. No other main courses are allowed. As a starter normally we eat some dry cuts of meat. Wine always white wine, i like "Heida" or "Petit Arvine".. But only swiss wines allowed 😎😁 I normally only use for dipping the pieces of bread or the small and young potatoes. Pickled onions or cucumbers i eat as a side, but i never dipp. Some people order cherry schnaps to dipp their bread before dipping it into the cheese .. But up to you 😂 The cheese that is burned and sticks at the pan at the end is very crunchy and my favourite part. We use the swiss german word "grossi", like grandmother..because it has a similarity to the skin. You can take your fork to remove it, sometimes it needs some strength .. You will not scratch the pan. If you still are hungry or want to have the full experience, try double cream with meringue or some "vermicelle" its a chestnut based dessert. Enjoy your next Fondue 👌
As a Swiss (and long time subscriber), I enjoy to see how you are discovering this and experimenting with it. Right - Swiss people wouldn't order red wine with fondue, but let's be honest, Cornalin actually goes pretty well with this. Just stubborn and stuck people claim it doesn't. Try Petite Arvine, Chasselas and Heida, if you have a chance to have another meal with cheese.
Way too much tannins in Cornalin for fondue... it's perfect for game and strong meat. Fondue is with Chasselas first, then why not Petite Arvine, Heida, Johannisberg, Räuschling....
@@iHeadmind The servers could have made suggestions, but it is Europe where tips are usually included. As someone who has worked in restaurants at the end of the day it is up to the guest. I think this couple prefers red wine.
Petite arvine is a great option. It goes well with fondue and the grape variety is one of the most interesting to taste here in Switzerland (try also Humagne 😉)
@@kevinnunes6459 Thank you so much. I did try a Swiss pinot noir once. I am not sure I will ever visit Switzerland - it is so expensive compared to Canada. However I dream of visiting Lake Brienz, Isewalt (after it was featured in a Kdrama :). Switzerland looks like paradise.
Hey, how nice to see you visiting switzerland, i hope you enjoy your stay. While you're visiting i can only recommend you trying Vin Jaune or in englisch yellow wine. It's a very unique dessert wine from switzerland and i've never had anything like it. Yet you might have to google to find out where to get it, as there are only 4 terroirs that produce it. I've had a bottle from Château-Chalon a while back and it was amazing. Anyway, if you're looking for any recommendations on places to see, feel free to send me a DM!
Vidéo comme toujours plaisante. Petite remarque sur la fondue, il est de coutume de rajouter un oeuf dans celle-ci quand elle se termine. At the end of the fondue, break an egg into the fondue pot to loosen the cheese stuck to the bottom. You'll be able to finish your meal with scrambled eggs and cheese. C'est délicieux. Pour le manque de quantité, le prix du fromage est malheureusement un frein pour les restaurateurs. Etant relativement facile à faire chez soi, les montagnards privilégient le fait maison à la fondue/raclette au restaurant.
Swiss german is very different from 'German' German though. Most germans would struggle to understand a Swiss. Although the Swiss perfectly understand both
@@hundredfireify That surprises me, but actually when I went to Quebec (as an Anglophone Canadian) with a friend from France I could often understand their French than her. 퐁듀가 스위스 산골에서 눈내려서 왕래가 불가할 때
