AWESOME you are the best, I have a 2002 Dodge ram and spent 2500.00 to NOT fix the issue. I have done most of the work with great videos with advice from true mechanics like you! I have a PO172 code with PO455 and PO442 and was thinking that there has to be an issue making me get other codes also. (That other mechanics didn't think of) I'm going to change my purge valve and gas cap and see what happens maybe even the Valve on the charcoal canister to be safe. Thanks for the great video and scan tool!

Thanks for the great comment 👍. When ever I get multiple codes I always take a few minutes to look into if they can be related somehow. Let me know how that works out for you. I really enjoy it when I see my videos help people.

Thanks for watching and the great comment. Whenever I get multiple codes I always check to see if they all have something in common. Are there any videos you think youtube needs more of? I'm always looking for ideas.

This is great info! I have an 03 Ranger 4x4 with 250,000 miles on it and it's basically giving the same codes except mine is rich bank one, and evap system small leak. It has the 4.0 engine in it and this is the third video I've seen on different models including Ford. I think this might be the problem. I've replaced several sensors as well as changing fluids like transfer case, diff, oil, and just dropped the trans pan changed the filter and filled it back up, I did not flush it...to afraid to but I do plan on dropping the pan every year and repeating the process or maybe every other year. The transmissions on that Ranger has like 18 bolts on the pressure plate once you drop the pan and they are only supposed to be torqued at like 7 pounds so they all come loose, it was having a little problem shifting into overdrive until I crisscrossed tightened the bolts on that plate back to spec and it's perfect now. So many times it's something simple, not every time but don't assume the worst right away. One thing can lead to scores of other things. Thanks for the video, I'll be getting a new purge valve soon and see if that works. It's the original with over 250k on it and not that expensive and easy to get to with similar codes so why wouldn't I start with something that doesn't even require a jack to replace.

Good idea checking basics like bolt torque. Let me know how it works for you. Thanks for the compliment!

@@shanersmechaniclife3164 I have the purge valve on order and I'm betting that's it because she runs down the road just fine but terrible mpg. I forget the YT name, it was one of many when I did my trans fluid change but he was the only one who pointed out those bolts when you pull the pan. I think there are 12 or 18 of them at about 7-8 ft. lbs torque and every single one was loose. Start in the middle and crisscross your way to each end and it helped the 3-4 automatic gear change....maybe I should have put some blue locktite on them but I didn't want to ruin it, I don't know how ATF and blue locktite gets along. When it gets warm again, I plan on dropping the pan for an aftermarket one with a drain plug and I will inspect them then, if they are loose, I'll but blue on them and let them set before adding fluid. Thanks for the videos!

Hi Shane, I am getting the P0172 on a BMW 3 series 2017. I have changed the Upstream O2 sensor how that has not worked fault code re apeared. I have a basic Scan tool and I can see Fuel Level input is 93%.
    STFT Bank 1 is : -1.56%
    LTFT Bank 1 is: - 17.19%
Oxygen sensor bank 2 Bnk 1 Voltage 0.77V
Not sure if any of the above helps. But if you have any ideas or if mine can be Rurge Valve or HPFP. any help. Thanks.

We have rich codes on bank 1 snd bank 2 for a long time on 2012 ford focus 1.6l
The dealership asked us to replace spark plugs several times but the problem continued, then they kept saying it just needs programming but after a couple of days it comes back..
Unfortunately we are out of warranty right now
I did injectors cleaning with chemicals twice, and it shouldn’t be the O2 sensors since it’s unlikely that both have failed at the same time
Is something like the purge valve or the PCV more likely to be the cause of these codes?

I cleaned MAF, throttle body and replaced the air filter too btw

If it's a 2012 with original o2 sensors i would probably replace them. They are a maintenance type item and tend to slow down as they age. Do you happen to know what your fuel trim numbers are? If it's a flex fuel vehicle try resetting your alcohol sensor. Hope this helps. Let me know what you find. Thanks for watching

@@shanersmechaniclife3164 I asked a friend to borrow his OBD II scanner and I’ll have a look at the fuel trims and tell you what I find
The code came several years ago since the car was still under warranty but we ignored it after the dealer failed to fix it several times and they gave us the impression that it was not a big deal, so at the time the car probably had less than 35k miles on it, now 64k, which makes me doubt that both O2 sensors failed so early at the same time
Plus when I recently asked about their price it was something like 300-400$ each so it’s really expensive! I’m used to 80-90$ in our other cars so hoping that they’re fine
The car uses petrol/gasoline only and it has a similar engine to the Fiesta in the US, a 1.6l petrol, so we fill it with 95 or rarely 91 petrol
