My IR and Blacksmiths were pretty easy to break in and are my most comfortable boots. The IR (8084 like yours) are slightly more comfortable than my 3343s. My 10875 were a nightmare to break in. The wedge sole might be better impact resistant but it takes a while to break in and flex. I have no experience with that rough out leather. I hear a lot of people preach differently about the comfort between the moc and the IR. Just a difference in the "average" shape of feet.
I bought some Thorogood boots to give them a chance but they felt cheap, the leather was not comparable to Red Wings. I returned them and got Redwing Moc Toe. Happy I did.
the 8875 is the Irish setter red but not lined just FYI i don’t like the lined 2 reasons 1- to hot & 2- the lining will break free and and acted/feel the a big lose sock. so check out the red wing 8875. thanks for sharing
Thorogood was my first moc toe. I am a big fan now, and frankly they are the most comfortable boots I have ever have my feet in. Give them another chance. Take care.
@@Wingsnthings23 Fun idea get some Goretex Thorogoods and do a custom revamp. Get them resoled with a real leather goodyear welt.... I am waiting for mine to be done...
7:38 The same thing with Thorogood I couldn't believe they didn't have someone smart enough to relast the design larger to accommodate steel toes or goretex liners. But its not like these are made in America. Even thorogood is making most if not every part overseas.
Nice! Glad to see your collection. The wedge sole IR and the classic Chelsea where marketed wrong. They cheapened the foot bed, in an attempted to make a easy break in, while calling it "heritage" and didn't disclose those changes untill they were getting called out on the grounds of false advertising. Had they just stepped into a comfort heritage line/ hybrid heritage it would have been accepted by the "boot community" more openly I think.
@@Wingsnthings23 yeah, the video from stride wise was good, but unfortunately I feel it was a PR reaction more than anything. I don't mind the Chelsea under foot. I don't like feeling lied to even by omitted information. And they knew what they were doing was wrong, or they would have been transparent about those materials well before the video. It's a principal matter. I question the ethical values behind that company now, and unfortunately these days as a consumer placing your money behind companies that match your values is almost as important as the quality of product or service they provide. I personally watched them starve out my local franchise store that had been in that family for 50 years, until my friend had to rename the business, and take on different brands, and completely lost redwing.
@@igylan they are all size 9. I wear a 9.5 in a tennis shoe and regular style shoes. My traction tread sole iron rangers are actually 8.5. So a full size down. You really have to try them on, and take into consideration aftermarket insole and socks you are going to wear
@@Wingsnthings23 thank you sir. I need to size a half size down for iron rangers right? I have an 875 Mocs in size 9.5 US. I want to purchase IR next, unfortunately we don’t have Redwings store where I live so I have to purchase online. Thank you once again.
How to stretch out a boot? Use a shoe tree and spray mist the leather to get it wet. Repeat process adjusting show tree. Or try wearing them and lightly cover them with water mist. YOU can do it ! wear socks to make more of adjustment. There is also a video on how to break in boots by a couple cobblers. Search YT
Your collection is very nice. However, I'm very surprised that your 8863 are so uncomfortable to you. I agree on how comfortable the iron rangers are. My most comfortable are my 8113 muleskinner iron rangers. But, I love my 8810 abilen moc toes which are basically the same as your 8863 just a different color. They have been comfortable from the start for me and the more they break in the more comfortable they become. Anyway, great video and love the IH shirt.
If you like the 8084's the 8086 is a Charcoal rough and Tough color like a dark grey and looks kind of like your used 8084's when clean 👍also nice collection.
For my break in I'm sat watching TV squishing, bending, rolling, poking from the inside, prodding the outside, karate chopping the leather with my hands.. its considerably faster than break in walking, 15 minutes a boot has done more than 3 hours of walking to soften the leather up.. try it, your hands can easily gauge the softness happening as you switch boots.. I could barely move the leather with my thumb, now I can move it with my pinky finger..
Good day sir, i myself very interest in the goretex moc toe version so your video just hit my curiosity hard. So please let me get it clear, because of the waterproof lining, it make less room on your feet ? I have several pair of redwing moc toe, 875, 8847 and 1907 and my normal Redwing size is 8,5 but because of the footbed come with the 1907, i go size 9 and it fit perfectly. Do you recommend to go half size up for the goretex version as well ?
I’d throw a set of those boot badges on my pair of work thorogoods. If you want to get rid of a set or two let me know. I could care less what brand is on the back.
The 8084s are my introducing to Red Wings. I snagged them for 30% off. I'm wondering if I should get a pair of wedge soles if I can find a similar deal or if I should save up for one of the higher end brands.
Are you making a short or video? Why have you made a video in portrait!! If you are watching it in a TV it looks rubbish. Think about how you present - it looks rubbish and is off putting for what is not bad content………

I believe get a .5 bigger with insoles and Paka wool socks will help. That works for me.
That Red Wing Blacksmith is my favorite boot. I may get a pair in black now seeing that color dirty.
Nice collection, I have a huge red wing collection. If you like the Oro russet color, but don’t like the gore-Tex I would recommend the 8875.
Will look into thanks

Thanks for your time and video. Would you say the wedge type sole is more cushioned than other soles?

Mine, too. Weird.
Love your video that's so great do you sell any your boots that you don't want? ❤❤❤❤❤❤.
