Fantastic, another great one. I almost think I could mess up really bad on making an arrow head now :) I'm sure it takes a lot of skill and trial and error to understand how the rock will behave. Really interesting to watch you work it and hear your thoughts along the way.
Bout 2:30 AM straight down here in Texas, and i sleep & eat like my old tom cat since i retired 8 yrs. ago... And it's always archaeologically entertaining to watch your videos. Figure i won't seem so ignorant as to how the many warrior & hunters so abode when rubbing elbows with them post resurrection. -gilpin 2717
great job Shawn, love the finished piece. I just picked up a really nice piece of green fiber optic glass from Missouri Trading Co. yesterday, that I cannot wait to start on......it is pretty much the same color as the green avatar on Craig Allen's comment below. I will have to wait a bit though as I just about cut the tip of my left index finger off, and it is still quite sore. The green F.O. glass will make a beautiful point though.
I am so glad to finally see some obsidian and someone actually work with it. thank you so much for this video. Where can I find a chunk like you have??
Hi Shawn, really enjoy your videos and you are very skilled in knapping. I would like to start learning, my question is where can I find the right kind of rock or obsidian, I live in N.C, is there a good place to buy it. thanks and keep up the great videos
Hey Shawn you should read "The clan of the cave bear" by Jean M. Auel. It's not exactly a historical book but if you're looking for a good realistic fiction you would probably find it really interesting.
I would like to see comparison in reuse, penetration and trajectory of a finely crafted stone arrowhead vs random sharp flakes As I suspect spending hours per each fine arrowhead is counterproductive.
question if you were to sweep up all of your glass bits and pieces of scrap and put them in a furnace get it to liquify and let it cool could you still use that glass for knapping or with the crystalline structure not half good enough faults for napping
Boof - I believe he along with many other primitive skills youtubers get it from a place called Glass buttes, in Oregon. Its a place with a valcano and theres obsidian almost literally everywhere.
you could look online to find out if other people are finding flint in your area by googling something like: finding flint in (the name of the area you live in state/province/county/however your government labels your part of the country). Not a sure bet but it should hopefully help. Good Luck!!!!

Nice one.
How do you even find obsidian is there a secret or something I can't even find flint
Boof, go to Glass Buttes in Oregon.............it's laying all over the ground there in flakes and big chunks. ;-)
You need to go to a place where it is. Like glass butte. A old valcano covered in obsidian. Valcanoes usually have it just depends where you live
