Such a good movie, but it brings a question to my mind. Are the physics so delicate that you can't attach things to it? For example what if it glowed? Maybe there's a way to combine it with a glow stick ring. In blue to look like a tron disk, or yellow like a halo. Thrown at twilight, or maybe even at night. I can just imagine the sound it makes when it sticks into wood. So satisfying. That might be one of those ideas that sounds cool when conceptualized but doesn't pan out. Kinda like my throwing cards. They stuck into cardboard, but not into wood. I have store bought ones that work with wood, but they're small. 3.5" by 2" by less than 1/8" ish chisel grind. That's not as fun or as flashy (good on camera). So basically I'm happy your disk idea panned out so well. I gave up on throwing knives and cards too. They just aren't as versatile as I thought. When I was making them I was so excited. They have so much potential for additions. At least I thought they did. I could make one with a capacitor that folded out into 4 parts and arced across the sections. I could put a gps tracker on one. Or even a little spy camera, but those either didn't work or weren't as cool as my videogames led me to believe. If any of those ideas interest you feel free to pick up where I left off. What's your next gadget idea? Mine's kind of a secret, because i'm scared it won't work. But it involves making a burst disk with aluminum foil and a 1/2 pvc union fitting. That part of the design works quite nicely, I can't wait for this summer to figure out the rest.
I was told to make it light up, but I’m not good with electronics. A glow stick sounds like an interesting idea though it could mess with the airfoil. I’m surprised they sell steel throwing cards at a store, that’s crazy lmao. Some amazing ideas but yeah, I suppose a flat rectangle lacks proper flight characteristics, as you found out. That sounds fun, I wish I could get more into those sorts of projects but I can never get the seals right haha. If I could, I’d get to making a 3” arm cannon for some weekend fun LOL. My next project idea is to make a giant slingshot. I had made one before and it worked quite well but was rather haphazardly built. So essentially I will be make a siege engine-style slingshot. All the other big man-powered launcher ideas I’ve tried didn’t work, but this one did, so yeah. It will be very similar to the Leach Trench Catapult. I can’t wait for summer too man, wish this snow would go away!
