Just got the 102mm version and Im very pleased with this scope. Ive not noticed any chromatic issues, but I have to shoot in a reasonably light-polluted area, so I stick to one-shots using a polarizing filter. This scope is perfect for my use and budget.
I owned a 102/1000 mm F10 Bresser achromat for some time, now I purchased the Svbony 102mm ED FPL51 and its significaltly better with a lot less chromatic aberrations. I like this refractor a lot, especially because it's sold for an excellent price of just 460$ now.
Great review of the scope it's nice not to have high end kit reviewed with the cost of living going up, I've recently bought the Altair Astro version of yours a 102EDR second hand for a bargain price which is identical apart from it uses FPL53 glass. I've now ordered the Svbony flattener to go with it as that looks identical to the TS optics version but a lot cheaper. I do image using a OSC camera & I hope to give it a first light sometime soon I hope if these clouds ever disappear lol.
@@TheNarrowbandChannel I managed a first light on Saturday night & the SVBONY reducer on the Altair Astro 102 EDR & it performed well, I were having issues with dew as it were pretty bad but I did a quick edit on my laptop & posted it on my community page.
@@dumpydalekobservatory Awesome. Ya I would like to get a second one to do my side by side rig. but I need the better chromatic adoration correction of the triplet to do luminance.
@@TheNarrowbandChannel The Atair Astro 102 EDR is still a doublet but shows no chromatic aberration from what I can see. But there is the Altair wave series 102 super ED triplet, maybe there's a clone of that scope on the market.
Like! Does it make sense to upgrade from a Bresser achromat 102/1000 mm F10 to the Svbony 102/714 FPL51 for visual observations (not astrophotography) or is the difference too small ? Thank you!
To those doing narrowband astrophotography with a mono sensor, not a dlsr, how necessary is it to use an automatic focuser and automatic filterwheel rather than manually doing it? (I'm not an astrophotographer). GREAT VIDEO, THANKYOU!!
I find it a luxury i don’t want to be without. It just works and its more accurate then i am. It also means i do not have to go back out and refocus the scope every couple of hours. I like to sleep through the night :) my wife especially like that.
I also noticed you said you make those plates so you can put TWO scopes on the system.?? why is there no link to purchase these from you?? Lol .. or least a STL to download and print something like them :) also curious as to what the weight limit of your mount is?? IM considering the 102ED and the SV48 on the other side? IF I can hold both of those on my mount?? ( on im' an EQ6-R Pro mount . which holds 44lbs ) . obviously for astro i don't want to max that out. :)
@@TheNarrowbandChannel Ok. but that's BAD isn't it?? to be close to max on mount for astro?? as it should be about 1/2 or so?? (Although this will be on a permanent pier in my observatory. will that matter? I'm assuming in theory I can go max weight if I'm like BALANCED to 99.5% or better?

you know. you're correct. Astrophotography requires an autofocuser really .. I'm Surprised NO one has made a true Astrophotography telescope, with a BUILD-IN AutoFocuser?
Some of the more dedicated ones now come bundled with them or at least with an option to bundle it. Go to any astro photography party and you will be very hard pressed to find a scope without some system of AF attached.
@@TheNarrowbandChannel absolutily .. I think I used mine for about a week, and realized a needed an autofocuser instead of touching the darn thing every time.
nice review 👍 I like Svbony and unless I need some equipment right away I always have a look at their version of the product. neat ideea to use two scopes at once ... oh look what you've done.... giving me crazy ideeas that would always imply big budget spending... it's true... I got the same sickness... my collection grows too ...
Telescope manufacturers need to follow SV and keep their prices in check, this is an expensive hobby as it is and it’s starting to get out of hand. Great video, I’m a new subscriber.

Good review. It is nice to see someone not pushing the most expensive kit when in situations that it would be overkill.
Thanks. Ya its easy to go overboard in this hobby.
I am so happy about this video. I have the 102mm myself, and a 1600GT mono camera, and is absolutely kicks ass in HA, O2 and S3:)

SVBONY looks like their scopes are good bang for the buck.
I just got that same one Black Friday deal. Can’t wait to use it. Came in today.
Another great video! And back at you, very nice shirt 😂
Thanks Thomas! Hope to see you again soon. Ill be trying out the 80mm Triplet soon.

Let me know how the reducer works out. I am considering a second scope if I ever do my side by side rig and if it work that would be great.

I think you will find it a worthy upgrade. Especially since you can often sell old gear for close to what you payed for it

Has anyone tried using this scope with a smartphone as a camera? I am very new to this, thinking of getting one and using my Pixel 7 pro with it. 🤔
There are lots of adapters for cell phones to be rigged up with eyepieces. I would start with moon and planets though since those are very bright.

Great point
I'd love to get a side by side mount from you when I can$$$!!!!
I am out of them right now. Have to make more. I am way behind in my Machine shop.
Where did you get that cap?
This was my grandpas. No idea where he got it.
Is it possible to contact you to ask about some equipment choices and compatibility? Thanks
Yes There is a contact option in the about section of my channel.
Do you have an STL for that dewshield for that Guidescope?
I think it is on grabcad.
from where did you buy it?
from their official website?
Yes I purchased directly from their website.
Is it an Achro or an Apo?
Apo. Achro uses flint and Chrone glass. not ED.
Hello Great video, can you offer assistance using the EAF on a SV503 Refractor ED doublet?
did you just say autofocus is essential for astrophotography ? you are not getting a new sub from me after that. most ridiculous thing ive ever heard
Thats funny. I know most say Electronic Automatic Focusers but I like to keep it shorter.
@@TheNarrowbandChannel you were referring to the dslr, it should be manual focus ..
