Thanks for remembering these units of men! My Great Grandfather was a private in the 73rd NY Infantry, also known as the 2nd Fire Zouaves or the 4th Excelsior. He enlisted in 1861 and mustered out in 1865. I have a great picture of him in his Zouave uniform , taken in 1917 alongside his son ( Spanish-American war) and grandson ( WW1). My Father remembered him buried in his uniform. Thanks again!

So thankful for your honoring these men. My G3 grandfather was regimental chaplain for the 62nd New York Volunteers, Anderson's Zouaves from 1861-65. Meanwhile, another grandfather of mine fought with the 26th Illinois Volunteers down the Mississippi River from Island No. 10 and along with Sherman on his march to the sea, also from 1861-65. I cherish their memory. Again, every thanks to you.

I'm a bit surprised that by the middle of 1864 there were any Zouave dressed units left. Buying their own uniforms and maintaining them over the years had to be a financial burden unless the US government paid them a clothing allowance instead of providing standard union uniforms. I wish you had shown more photos of the Zouaves both US and French versions rather than your head shot as you meandered thru the field.

The “meandering” as you put it, and location shots are to put people in the location of history, especially those that can’t get there or travel to it. The photos from the past you can google or go to that website I mentioned, teachthecivilwar.com he has great shots there. I don’t blame you though, I don’t much like looking at me either 😂 I’ll keep your suggestions on file. Always remember, focus. Thanks for watching.
