    Wonderful to see a liutaio who uses new technology like the plywood patches. I presume the "conservative" luthier doesn't like at all. Thanks Kimon for this new video!!!

    Thanks for another great video. Using the plywood to reinforce the long cracks is brilliant.

    Very nice work as always!
    I realized watching you shape the pegs how effortless it looks. I'm usually fighting with it a lot more, even if I sharpen the blade nicely. Could you at some point make a video on sharpening and setting up violin and cello peg shapers? I think I may not be the only one tired of blisters from that job!
    Also, another video suggestion: How to loosen a frozen bow frog or rusten screw. I have a lot of those lying around, even a really nice one. And once again, I'm probably not alone.
    Cheers, Tobias

      Good quality ebony works much better indeed. I will make a couple of videos on your suggestions, thank you! Soon a video on the threading and leather of the bow.
      Have a good one!

    I mix glue and a bit of vinegar and use a syringe to squirt it into the crack. It ensure a good bond. Sometime I also use a vacuum to blow the glue deep into the crack.

    • @maestrokimon
      @maestrokimon  3 роки тому

      As far as I know, vinegar is a solvent of the white glue, are you sure that this method doesn't weaken the glue?

    • @bobweiram6321
      @bobweiram6321 3 роки тому

      @@maestrokimon Yes, it is a solvent. It only serves to lower the viscosity, but doesn't effect the bond unless it is too thin to fill in between the mating surfaces. I only use a few drops. Personally, for splits and cracks on wood I go for the big gun, epoxy. Not for its strength, but for its ability to bond the fibers without any swelling.

    Very nicely done. Could you also use cotton so enforce the sides? I am very curious to hear and see the result!

    • @maestrokimon
      @maestrokimon  3 роки тому

      Hello Wouter. I think that you mean cotton cloth don't you? I know people they use linen cloth but I was never keen on it as you can't clamp it.

    thank you. very good video as always. Can you comment in future videos on how long it has taken for the glue is dry and ready each time you remove the clamps? it would be helpful. Thanks again.

    • @maestrokimon
      @maestrokimon  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you! You can use the guidelines mentioned on the glue, otherwise overnight waiting as sufficient to remove the clamps and 24 hours before you apply tention.

      I buy it in a shop that sells supplies for RC airplanes. Thay also call is Airplane-plywood.

    I wonder which one is easier to make: a big instrument - cello, or a smaller one - violin...

    • @maestrokimon
      @maestrokimon  3 роки тому

      The big one needs the muscle as it is a lot of work. The smaller doesn't have so much space to move!

    Great video Kimon, I'm no expert but when I try the reamer usually I apply too much stress. I've broken a few rosewood keys from overstressing

    • @maestrokimon
      @maestrokimon  3 роки тому +1

      There are a couple of reasons why pegs brake. Poor wood the the obvious one! But a good calibrated pegscraper make is easier. You have to look out that the blade dosné extend to much and go too deep in the wood. Maybe I'll make a video about it soon.
