Earth Defense Force 5 spielt im Jahr 2045, 7 Jahre nach den Ereignissen von Earth Defense Force 4.1. Die Erde wird erneut von einer Alien-Invasion bedroht, diesmal von einer neuen Rasse namens "Ravagers". Die EDF muss sich zusammenschließen, um die Menschheit vor der Vernichtung zu bewahren.
Earth Defense Force 5 ist ein Third-Person-Shooter, in dem ihr euch gegen Horden von Aliens durchkämpfen müsst. Das Spiel bietet eine Vielzahl von Waffen und Ausrüstungsgegenständen, die ihr freischalten und verbessern könnt.
