- NYC is full of interesting museums and attractions, but the Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum may be one of the most unique ones . Housed on an old Aircraft Carrier, this museum is not only a shrine to military aviation and ships, but contains a submarine, an old Concorde Commercial Jet, and even a Space Shuttle. Check out our other NYC Playlists for even more ideas of things to do on your next trip to New York City.

Here Be Barr great video Jon. Started watching your videos a few weeks ago when I came across your channel.
I appreciate your tips and tricks for saving money and finding awesome things to do in the City. Keep them coming.
Another great video, I last went to nyc back in 95 and visiting the intrepid . We also visited south street sea port which seemed to be a big attraction at the the time, is it still worth visiting and have you made a video on it??
If ur in NYC u can't skip this. Free on Fridays.
Wow, great tip !
www.intrepidmuseum.org/free-fridays
Thanks for the tip
My dad was a US Marine gunner seriously wounded on 25 November 1944 when Kamakazis hit the Intrepid CV 11……at noon they had general quarters, and were instructed to shoot at the sun…..the Japanese attack was torpedo bombers, dive bombers and Kamakazis……the Intrepid was a workhorse, the Fighting I…..!!!!! I’m glad she was saved and is now a museum, for my children and grandchildren to visit history ……
What I really love about this channel is that it covers things other NYC based channels don't. Great job as always Jon! The Intrepid Museum really is a fascinating place, My husband is an airline pilot and he was in Air Force for 10 years prior to that, ever since we first started dating it's always been important to me to have an understanding of that part of his life, visiting the Intrepid has been so informative over the years. It's well worth a visit, especially if you have a spouse or family member that's been in the military or works in aviation, or even if you don't it's still a great place to check out ✈️🗽
I was there a few months before your video... By far the best museum I visited in NYC! Seeing the A-12 and Concorde in person is surreal.
3:58 that’s a Fiat G.91PAN used between 1963 and 1982 by “Frecce Tricolori” ("Tricolour Arrows"), the famous aerobatic demonstration team of the Italian Air Force: with a total of ten aircraft, it is considered the world's largest aerobatic patrol! 🇮🇹
My daughter and I toured The Intrepid ..It was amazing..It took a few hours to go through it..We were amazed by the deck and all the aircraft on it..When we were in the guns it gave us a feeling of being very humble..
Intrepid was awesome to walk around. I’m in nyc right now, gonna be a blast!
Don't miss it. Free admission on Fridays
Was there a couple of weeks ago. It wasn't in my original plans but we decided to go and glad we did. Very interesting place and the variety of the Intrepid, Growler, shuttle and Concorde makes for a good experience. I especially liked the videos of interviews with past crew. I found them insightful about life on-board. Recommended
Visited the Intrepid while in NYC a couple of weeks ago and agree with John that this place is really worth a visit.
This place was my child hood I remember walking here every week the concord was and still is my favorite part highly recommended to do the concod
My father took me to the Intrepid sometime in the 1980s. The F-14 was the star of the show. The next time I was on it was post 9/11 for a memorial type service. I was a Paramedic in NYC. My next trip is going to be with my daughter. I can't wait to see the look on her face when she sees actual space ships.
That looked super interesting, I'd love to check it out. Dylan seemed like a great guide as well.
He was awesome !
Last year when I went to New York with my dad we went there on our 3-4th day and It was a great experience for us. I loved seeing all of these aircraft and especially getting to go into the large battle ship
Excellent upload...great information brother..😎🤟⚡
Good vid 🏴🏴
Bonsoir Jon....wow....la visite du sous-marin c est vraiment surprenant et intéressant....super vidėo ❤
Thanks Jon, that was very interesting.
Your welcome :)
definitely on my bucket list!! going next month!
Went in August..... Had a great time stepping back in time... Great artifacts... Thumbs up 👍👍
Great video, Jon 👍
I’ve been there recently, loved my experience, bought so many souvenirs, took a picture of almost all the aircraft and loved talking to the employees and volunteers so I I really recommend if your in New York to check this place out.
Only back a week from honeymoon and I originally wasnt really interested in doing intrepid but I have to say, it was brilliant!! One of the most enjoyable things I done there!
We went there during our trip to NYC last year. It was very cool. After, we walked over and took the Circle Line at sunset. Great afternoon/evening.
As always buddy its great to see your informative vids on where to go and what to see in New York. I am flying out to New York on the 26th of October, only a few hours left and I can't wait !
My wife and I were on the Intrepid this past sunday! She has listened to storied from me about being stationed on USS Dwight D. Eisenhower so now she has a little bit of a feel of what living on a ship is like.
I used to live about a block away from there in the 80’s and the 90’s and when friends would come to visit, the Intrepid and the Circle Line were a great way to spend time and show them the city. To this day I still get compliments on the times I showed them those two places.
Its always a bit inspirational driving by it. I love being able to see the tail of the SR-71. Most definitely have to actually visit it now. Looks like there is a lot to see.
Great content as always. I'm currently traveling through Mexico from North to south. Loving the experience, but this is possible thanks to you guys, since you encourage people to travel. Greetings from San Miguel De Allende Guanajuato, MX
Thanks 🙏🏻 we’ll be back back in Mexico in dec
Worth a visit, did it on my last day and really enjoyed it.
Nice thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much !
Intrepid Museum totally worth it. It's huge, interesting and really fun.
Been there five times and it's incredible.
Muito legal! Very nice! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Awesome video 😘😘
Thank you for the tour I remember going to the intrepid when it first arrived
Been to this museum twice when visiting NYC it's fab. And will probs go back again next year 😁
I've been there twice and it's awesome!!!!!
USS Intrepid is always a pleasure to visit and Concorde... is the cherry on top. It will always remain my favourite aircraft of all time.
Why am I not surprised you'd say that :)
@@HereBeBarr 😂 Guilty AvGeek right here 😜
Just visited the intrepid on the 6th or 7th of January while in new York it really made the trip everything is so breath taking
It looks amazing!! I think my brother would love it!
;)
amazing video ! im a fan of warships and intrepid is on my list to visit ... even i want to visit New York so as im there for sure i will visit the Intrepid Museum ! thanks for the video ! :)
I've been to the Intrepid in 2012 and again in 2018. The first time was right after they acquired the Space Shuttle Enterprise. My local museum ship is the battleship Massachusetts. And I thought that was big. The Intrepid makes that look tiny by comparison.
I've been there in 2009.I don't think the sub exhibition was there yet.awesome place, the flight simulators are prolly some of the most liked places by all ages
Saw it last summer while visiting NYC. Might go again when I’m in the city in a few weeks
I was there yesterday MEMORIAL DAY May 30, 2022 you gave me great memories...Thanks!
cool looking
Great share
11👍
Thanks.
Cool 😎 excellent video
Next time in NY I'm not gonna miss it! Tks HBB
Haven’t been to the Intrepid in years!
Time to re-visit.
thanks a lot¡¡¡ what a great tour¡¡¡ :-)
I LOVED it. Ended up there on a random December afternoon a few days after xmas and it was colder than a polar bears bollox. Coulda spent days wandering around getting lost 😍
Love the video. I'm going to be in NYC on March cuz youtube algorithm suddenly suggesting your video lol. Anyway, Another cool flight museum in the area would be Cradle of Flight museum in Long Island. People might know that place as Grumman museum.
Wow didn’t know there was a space shuttle at the Intrepid!
Food and Footprints just for you greg 🤪
Now that’s is a museum that I want to see 👍👍👍👍
Nice video
Totally worth going to, and get there early it gets crowded quick
It's a really impressive museum, totally worth the visit, went there twice 🙂. It was really awesome to see and read about every facet of how an aircraft carrier works, found out a lot of fun new things. A must see for anyone visiting the city.
I got on the concorde through a summer camp program held there, pretty cool.
Oh I didn’t know it has so much stuff there .. must go now
Just visited the Intrepid last week, Wednesday, and saw Dylan at work with a group near the Concorde. One thing I didn't like was that for the tours excluded from the General Admissions ticket, it was not highlighted to us when making purchase. Some of us travel 12 time zones to New York only to realise that we missed out on a limited group tour, and that was disappointing.
A pity the museum did not get to house the US Air plane which was recovered from the Hudson; of course, I'd prefer Enterprise any time over that plane for reasons of 'space'. Entering the Growler by its nostrils was fun.
I was there in 2005 and it was really cool
I have done an over night on the intrepid back in 2016 and it was awesome we saw everything went on the top part at night and did alot of other stuff
Now that sounds fun.
This museum was in my Sighseeing Pass, but I was not at the time very interested in seeing it. Now after watching this videoI feel like I should have taken the time to take a look a it and spend at least one afternoon there. I hope I can make it next time. Thanks for the video by the way.
We visited it at the begining of September and it was awesome - loved it all and could not get over the size of the shuttle
I enjoyed my visit, but, thankfully, we have PRETTY MUCH THE EXACT SAME type of museum right here where I live in San Diego, the USS MIDWAY museum...(minus the Space Shuttle and the Concorde, of course!)...if you’re ever out here, it’s well worth the time
Yes i've walked by it a few times ! Now I need to go onboard.
I've been on the USS Lexington, this one is next on my list !
Good call.
the thing is, i was here one time, standing at an area where i could see the USS Intrepid. back then, i wasnt much of a naval and air force fan, but after watching top gun for like the first time ever (about 3 months ago probably), i started getting familiar with fighter jets i see all over the world or across the sky. when my mom just brought up a picture earlier of a younger ohoto of me standing in front of the USS Intrepid, i noticed that in the picture, there were aircraft on it. One of them was the first to catch my eye, one of my most favorite jets ever, the F-14. i wasnt entirely sure, but i could tell by the wings. so i had to double-check by lookin at this video, and indeed i was right!
Wow - somehow I missed this video - nice job. Never been there. NYC newbie buddy I'm bringing next visit would dig this - me too.
You should go!
I think it is definetly a great Site.
We have a maritime museum here in sydney but def not as big as this. I would def enjoy those planes im an aviation geek lol
Nick and Helmi ✈️ 🤓
I went and it’s worth it
I’m watching this as I’m in the intrepid
Is that correct that you have to book concorde separately? I've just booked general entry online and there's no option for this in the ad ons section
Visited Intrepid on our first visit to NYC last year, and it is an excellent museum. So many great aircraft, including the British Airways Concorde and of course the Space Shuttle. Also famous from Will Smith hitting golf balls off there, in 'I am Legend'.
Unfortunately USS Growler was closed for refurbishment when we visited, but would definitely go back and visit Intrepid again.
I was deadass chilling at pier 84 the same day lmao
I'll be visiting nyc next week, is still free to visit on fridays?
Even if I had to pay definitely looks a must visit, but it would be nice if I can save some money
Great video as always!
Could you make a video on bars that offer non alcoholic beverages. I don't drink but I want to go to cool bars still is that a bad thing?
You could order non alcohol at most any bar. If you mean specific mocktails, i'm not sure..
@@HereBeBarr Thanks
no mention of the oxcart? you do get a brief view of it though
The intrepid is actually the sister ship of the scrapped Enterprise. The enterprise saw every naval engagement of the pacific during ww2 and won eighteen stars. The intrepid was built from the original blueprints of Enterprise but the difference was the deck as this ship has a concrete/ asphalt deck to better use jets while the Enterprise had a completely wooden deck made of Washington state pine and oak which was better for the prop planes. Also the guns were slightly different as the Intrepid got newer guns from Korea and Vietnam. The enterprise had a huge replacement of guns around the Solomon Islands campaign leaving all but one of her original guns. Currently a new intrepid is on the waters as well as the nuclear powered enterprise. Both ships have long histories just have to know about them.
Thanks !
That is incorrect. The USS Intrepid was a ship of the Essex-class aircraft carriers. The sister ships to the USS Enterprise was USS Yorktown (CV-5) and USS Hornet (CV-8). Intrepid had a wooden deck throughout WW2. It received a strengthened deck after WW2 to handle heavier jet aircraft. Curently, there is no USS Intrepid in commission in the USN
Can you tell how long does it take to tour this entire place? Just so I know how to plan :)
Hey man!
I'm going to NY in July and want to do the Intrepid Museum! The price on the website says $36 includes the concord! But does not say it is a guided tour! I don't want to book the wrong one and miss out on the Concord for me, my buddy, and 2 other peole! 4 total! Thanks! Alec
How do we book the tour to go inside the Concord?
I visited from England it was well worth the entrance fee
I'll have to bring my cane chair. Its like being transported back to when they were operative. The sub. For sure, you would of been on a diet there, to function and move around.Reminds me of the Titanic. All though they say, the Queen Mary was larger, for ships of that nature. Whats the cost of said venture? Say 10,000 pocket change?? which includes what hotel of means? Do you act as guild for people for a fee? How far is Boston? Would love to see "Old Iron sides. I read a book back in 3rd grade on that vessel.Coooooooool. Thank You for the tour. PS MY adoptive mother was a New Yorker. Born before Empire State Building was built. Sorry, Overboard, throw the life jacket, Barr?Barr? Help Barr! Shark......Ba.........aaa..Swoosh.................
I've been to the intrepid Museum New York just to see Space Shuttle Discovery
I believe it’s free admission for this friday from 5 till end. Is that right?
Yep on select Fridays. I put a link below .
It STILL is the USS INTERPID and ALWAYS will be!
I went many years ago when it was less commercialised. Much better back then.
Is this open year round?
Yes, it should be. Check their website for details.
👍🏆👍!
Very cool video. Obviously, there's a ton of things to see and you can't show everything but skipping the SR-71 - Blackbird is a bit of a miss.
Saw it from the world trade center but not enough time, hopefully next visit.
For everyone that has NYC Public Library Card, you can get free 2 tickets to Intrepid. Google NYC Culture Pass and reserve dates. You're welcome.
How many hours should we plan on staying at the museum for?
8:11 haha, sea, nice unofficial pun
Hahah good catch
In the 90s they gave parties on it.
where is the sr-71?
