I was super excited to see this Nerd Legion because it got me to sit down and watch the series before I watched the episode. I really enjoyed how it is a nice self contained story that feels enhanced if you had knowledge of the original. I was so in the minute they made it clear that Zeon were going to be the main characters because it definitely wasn't the expected decision for a Gundam series. I feel like it was a neat idea to have Solari piloting the red Zaku to tie in that she was going to be the Newtype of the group and obviously to give that Char grounding to a character. The animation did make it have uncanny valley going on whenever there was dialogue and the hands were moving around peculiar, but generally I found that not too distracting. I do think it was kind of weird to have Yakuza Major General on screen with wimpy M Bison but I feel like, at least the story was engaging enough and had them there so little to not have me all the way out. I will say that the Gundam pilot was a little bizarre. Because when we do get to see him outside of the mech and at the end he feels more like Four and Rosamia in terms of personality rather than an Amuro-esque Newtype. If he hadn't gotten stabbed at the end and they revealed he was a super young Kamille Bidan, I would have totally believed it. Also would have thought a way to have the weird ending for Solari would have been to send her to Brazil instead of Africa so they could imply she was part of the battle in Jaburo at least. Overall not perfect, but a lot better than a lot of western adaptations of anime for sure. And I definitely have recommended it to some friends.
I’m a Gundam fan but have not watched the whole series yet, by listening to you I understand it’s the same stuff we always have with other series, also the core of any Gundam: war is bad, who’s the enemy, enemy is also like me, stealing from each other, having power you become the monster etc. it’s cool I’m gonna watch the rest.
I was so excited for this episode I adored this show personally, I'm not as entrenched gundam fan as DoA but I've seen a few and I was really excited for the unreal engine 5 experiment I do agree it definitely was a miss in some aspects but it fascinates me to no end and I really want them to explore it more as a medium get practice with it to get rid of some of that jank and lifelessness/marionete feeling. I also agree with the general showed up I laughed out loud wondering where this yakuza character came from but I guess I'm so used to it doesn't bother me oh well overall I agree with most of the sentiments you guys have its a fun show and is good for all levels of fans can't wait for the arcane review and dune prophecy and the continuation of the 80s fantasy movies all are gonna be a blast thanks for the content!
Big fan of you both, and Gundam! What a treat! I really enjoyed the show, and agree with your takes that the last 3 minutes ruin the characterization of the protag, but not the show. I think the point was to show was to show how quickly war radicalizes you into a monster, since they went out of their way to show all the Zeons in the show as sympathetic. Visuals aside, I thought it was a pretty refreshing entry in Gundam.
The very anime Wolverine-haired guy is General Yuri Kellerne from 08th MS Team. I don't like how RFV made an effort to make the females manly and ugly. It's so unnecessary.
I expected more from this one. I was kinda disappointed with how it looked, could never get over that hump. IBO is still my fav Gundam show and hasn't been beaten. The HG kit is dope tho, waiting for mine to still arrive.
I didn't find this show compelling in the least. The voice acting and dialogue were stilted and lacked emotional tone overall. I thought that the facial animation was okay at times but was atrocious at some points. Some of the backstory hooks for characters are mentioned but never go anywhere. I feel like this suffered the same problem that many shows have in that there are too many characters vying for screen time. Cut 4 or 5 of the characters from the show and give us more time with the cast that matters. 6/10 for me.
- meh - derivative - milquetoast - westernized take your pick, its ultimately a forgettable series, meant to fill in a netflix slot. Even looking back, AND having watched it TWICE, I really wasted my time with this whole series. And dont get me started on the gunpla releases lol, what a waste.
kill list waiting room

Do you guys also plan on covering Transformers One?
Comment for the 'rthm. Good listen.

With what kind of unreal engine did transformers get made? How come we don't get CGI like that yet 🤔
I talked to my friends who are Gundam fans, they hated this show.
Did they say why?

I wasn't interested in Gundam at all, but the review you guys did convinced me to give it a watch tonight. Good stuff
