    Thank you. It would be more helpful though if you actually named a winner of the two. There are differences between the 2 beyond storage space, eg transfer speeds & powered vs non powered. Quizlab seems better on the specs but it’s a less well known brand, so I’m uncertain if it’s equally good.

    Great video man! Thanks!
    I think the Qwiizlab is supposed to seat on your Mac mini. Its rubber feet would keep your Mac aluminum body safe from scratches.
    But if you put the Mac mini seating on the Qwiizlab it would slide and scratch the hub.
    Just saying.

    there’s a Satechi model that has an NVME slot as well. not an SSD though. still i like the indentation for the bottom of the Mac Mini. i’m a sucker for aesthetics. also, the Satechi’s finish matches the Mac Mini’s finish perfect. the Quiizlab’s finish is a little different. again, aesthetics.

    I have an M2 Mac Mini and after trying both of the hubs in this review, I found the OWC Stack STX hub with Thunderbolt 4 connectivity. The OWC Stack STX is also powered and has the same storage options that the Qwiizlab hub provides. I would love to see a comparison between the OWC product and the hubs you just reviewed. Thanks

    Nice review. Quick and to the point. I wish there were more comparisons like this one of all the Mac mini hubs out there. Would you comment on the build quality of each? Are they both made of aluminum? I like the additional option of the 2.5 SSD on the Qwiizlab, but prefer the design and fit of the Satechi. Did you have any issues with the drives ejecting on their own? I've heard of this error is some of these hubs. Thanks.

      Thanks for the kind words. both companies say they are made of some type of aluminum. the satechi feels better made to me. I didn’t have any problems with the drives. honestly tho the internal storage doesn’t work for me since i need the portability and do all my work from detachable and portable drives. Thanks for watching and commenting. Very much appreciated!!!

    • @pangjeremy
      @pangjeremy Рік тому +4

      The drives ejecting by itself is very likely due to heat. Qwiizlab uses NVME which generates too much heat and to pair it right beside a 2.5 SSD is disastrous for heat management without a heat sink/fan. Satechi uses the older M.2 SATA which MAY produce lesser heat hence no self ejecting issues.
      Personally will not cook my Mac Mini by stacking it on top of a Qwiizlab running both NVME and 2.5 SSD. But that's solely my opinion.

    I wanted a minimalistic setup on my desk. So I got the Satechi hub that has an NVME enclosure for my M2 Mac Mini. It’s great, but the disadvantages are:
    - the USB ports do not officially support charging
    - you lose one of your (two) rear thunderbolt ports
    - It’s not exactly colour matched to the Mac Mini (you will notice the difference).
    I’m not sure the disadvantages outweigh the advantages. I might have preferred a different, powered dock and hidden the Mac Mini under the desk…

    I have both of these hubs (connected to a mac mini M1 base system) and the Qwiizlab is better for my use case. It should be noted that I run both a 2.5 ssd and an Intel 670 M.2 drive with only one of the ports (on the back) connected. I get 700 read and write from the M.2 and 400 on the 2.5 drive. The only thing I don't like about the Qwizlab is how slippery it is, you have to hold it down to plug in any device. It should be noted that on the front of the Qwizlab you have 3 type A ports and the last one (closest to the type c port is 10GB). The front type C port is also 10GB. The other 2 type A ports on the front are 5GB ports. I don't know if they are powered or not. I suspect that if they do you would need to use the second usb type c port on the back connected to a power adapter. Just a guess on that. I have had both plugged in at the same time with no issues.

      @@Carbon_Fiber Well I have two answers to that question:
      1. Now I have the base level M1 mac mini. So, I really love the Qwizlab for having the two internal drives. The base M1 only has 256GB of storage so the Qwizlab really helps.
      2. I have on order a new M2 pro that has ample diskspace and 2 extra USB 4 ports for adding additional storage. So, I would use the satechi because of the way the mac can "sit" on the hub without sliding. This works much better to keep the mini from sliding around. They both add needed front IO so I will be using the satechi with the new mac mini.

Then I consider the storage last (I mostly work from external SSDs). I purchased mine brand new but if I were to do it again, I would check with Apple Refurbished. I just looked and you can get a M1 Mac Mini with 16GB of Ram and 256 GB of storage for $649. it comes with 8 core CPU and 8 core GPU, or a MacMini M2 with 8 core CPU and 10 core GPU and 16 GB and 512 storage for $849.

    Does any of the hub help run two monitors with Mac mini?

    • @digitalmaus
      @digitalmaus  Рік тому

      When I connect it to my m1 macmini I usually connect one monitor to my M1s hdmi and the other to one of my thunderbolt ports. this leaves my M1 mini USB-A ports free and frees all the ports on the hub for any peripherals. In that sense it helps me…Hope this info helps…Thanks for watching!!!

    I dont think it was a good comparison. You talk mainly about the Qwiizlab hub, and do you give ANY specs for transfer speeds on Satachi. i.e 10GB from external to internal drive transfer speed. THAT is pretty critical for this compare, no?

      @digitalmaus  Рік тому

      Hello Richard
      Here is Satechi’s reply
      Thank you for reaching back out to us and for informing us on the product.
      We're not aware of this issue with the Stand & Hub, but did they have any devices connected to it when this happened?
      Also, could you inform us on the make and model of the host device that the hub is connected to?
      If it's just the hub by itself that's disconnecting, then could they review the hub's cable, the cable's connector, or the USB-C port that it's connecting to?
      If the cable is damaged, the connector or the port is dirty, then it could cause an issue with the connection between the hub and the host device.

    Bought a Qwiizlab hub after seeing this review video, anyone else have it and have an issue with it unmounting the installed drives?
    I'm worried about disk (and file) corruption if this keeps happening, and Qwiiz haven't been very helpful tbh. They did advise me to buy a power adaptor for the hub which I got, but still it's happening. Qwiiz ended up refunding me for the hub and not requesting it back, which would be a result if I wasn't living in fear of disk corruption due to the almost daily issue.
    The comments here made me think about putting it on top of the Mac Mini rather than underneath it, in case it's an overheating issue, but any other ideas from anyone in a similar position?

    • @digitalmaus
      @digitalmaus  Рік тому

      Hello Scott, sorry to hear about your issue with the Qwiizlab. I have had my Qwiizlab for several months. I used my underneath my MacMini with a silicone pot holder in between to keep it from sliding and I have not had the same issue you are describing. I will keep an eye on it and report in the community tab if that ever becomes a problem though. Thank you for sharing your experience!

    My Quizlab stopped working in about a month. The company had NO support, NO way to reach it. It is a piece of garbage. You should spend a very little more and get a Satechi. I am assuming the Satechi is a betyter quality and has support, but I don't know because I just gave up on this type of hub/
