An extremely informative episode. Why is there a need to dehumanise amaThwasana? I feel that it is one of the heinous practices of initiation school that have somehow been normalised and it is encouraged to "swear at by initiates using body parts that they don't know where to even look for" to use the words of Mkhulu. To debate the ethics is only the tip of the iceberg. Additionally, I feel that this practice started because someone suffered and said "because I suffered, everyone after me should as well". Yes, strictness is necessary but not at the cost of psychological health of initiates. They already come to initiation school weary, only to have to be dehumanized even more. I am speaking from an outsider perspective, so I would love to be enlightened as to the necessity of this practice. Growing thick skin is 100% not a valid answer. There must be a more critical reason. Nevertheless, I enjoyed this episode. And thanks for the awesome facilitation Chef.
