Why single him out for being unfaithful? For most Hollywood actors, men and women, this was a common thing and no secret at all. He will always be one of my fave actors.
I read both books by David Niven. I laughed out loud many times. I found the books in a second hand book shop. If you can buy his books they are wonderfully funny and sad as well.
David Niven was great. His roles, of whatever type, are so compelling, because he exudes charisma. So many of my favorite films include Niven in the cast. Wuthering Heights (drama) and Around the World in 80 Days (comedy) are two examples.
David LOVED his first "Primmie" and when she died he was never the same-as Douglas Fairbanks Jnr sais "something left David the night Primmie died and it never returned!" His second marriage to Hijordis was often deeply unhappy so it's probably likely he behaved the way he did to find happiness that he felt was lacking in his personal life!
The Moon's a Balloon...the funniest, warmest autobiography ever written. One of my favourite actors and someone you couldn't help but love. Wish I'd met him.
Sir David Niven, spent 6 1/2 year in the Army during WW2, was a Commando, landed at Normandy and was involved in the taking of a bridge, and holding it against a regrouping German Panzer Division at Carentan. He would not even speak of his wartime experiences. If I had been through all that and survived, I would treat every day of the rest of my life like it was a party also. It's so easy to post stuff denigrating men and women in public life who survived the war, without any knowledge of what they witnessed or experienced.
Hi mate, how are you this week? Thanks for this, its a terrific one. First a question but, @ 1:21 the shot near a racing car is that Peter Ustinov? Oh my!! David Niven. A smooth talking, attractive, very intelligent, witty 'rogue'. Irresistible as catnip to a kitty. This is not an excuse but could be an explanation. Children who are, umm, violated, can sometimes grow up to be be overly seductive. They want to take their power back. No one is going to force them again. Instead they will prove to themselves/others how they can charm the birds out of the trees. And he definitely did. The pendulum can swing both ways of course, to never have anything to do with sex to being promiscuous. That teacher was wicked! And lucky to escape the beating he'd so richly deserved. Sorry for writing a book. Anyway thanks again for covering so well a very interesting actor. Cheers till the next one. Take care 😊
In that time is was nothing for actors and actresses to have numerous live interests. To me as a movie buff it didn't keep him from preforming as a brilliant actor. What I see on the screen is the only thing I care about. People of wealth and notoriety were frequently known for this type of behavior.
Do you live near DOVER and would like a new SOFA then contact the narrator. Am I right? Excuse me but I couldn't resist using my ability to recognize voices. By the way loved the video and have read all Niven's books and the great biography, " Niv"
Let's just SKIP OVER his ENTIRE WW2 exploits and return to England, PLUS his being in an ADVANCE GROUP on D-Day and his FLUENT GERMAN. Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeexxxxzzzzzzzzzz.
I thought this also. Not to mention the fact that his father was killed at Gallipoli and his maternal Grandfather was killed at Islandwana. He was one amazing guy!
Niven himself would rarely speak of his wartime experiences, and then only in generalities. He explained one time that so many people died in the war, and so many more were grievously injured that he felt it was wrong for him to discuss his experience which still allowed him to live a great life after the war.
Niven would have been a much better choice for Gone With the Wind than Leslie Howard, who had the charisma of a house-plant. If you ever watch to see a fun and grossly underrated movie, watch "Bedtime Story" starting David Niven and Marlon Brando. If you've ever seen "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" with Steve Martin and Michael Caine, that was actually a remake of Bedtime Story.
I think the main problem is that most people who cheat are dishonest about it. If you gave the self awareness and integrity to be completely forthright about how you operate and your primary partner is okay with it, then that's fine. Most often, that's not what happens. If people are sneaking around, it's not cool. That involves deception and lies. That's never good for a relationship. I've been with my fiancee for 8 years, have an open relationship. We're in our 60s. It hasn't caused us any problems. I've had less contact with others than she. Truthfully, being in our 60s has been a limiting factor. I was previously in a marriage with someone who was a habitual cheater. I always resented the lies more than the actual cheating. Both partners need to be on the same page.
I always wonder about people who don't leave their estates to their children. His kids had, more or less, made their way in life by the time of his death, so he couldn't use that as an excuse. To me, it's shows a lack of real love.
🤔 Great 👍stuff. David Niven was one of the very best talents to come out of the United Kingdom 🇬🇧. As for his womanizing. He was a man 👨, to state the obvious. Rich and famous, lots of opportunities were going to follow him- Boys will be Boys........

Very underrated actor.
Niven acted with himself ?
NGL, I often confuse him with Larry Niven, the science fiction author.
David was a very good writer. His books about Hollywood, "Bring in the empty horses" and "The moon's a baloon" were wonderfully funny!
I'd! The anecdotes about Michael Curtiz were worth the price of the whole book!
Why single him out for being unfaithful? For most Hollywood actors, men and women, this was a common thing and no secret at all. He will always be one of my fave actors.
Men cheat!
@@patbogost3832 Women also.

Agreed
He was wonderful in "Separate Tables". He wrings sympathy right up to the end.

Early this morning, I watched a David Niven and Annabelle movie, it was SPECTACULAR! Niven was an incredible believable TALENTED ACTOR!
David Niven was my favorite English actor. He was charming, funny and witty and that persona carried over to his screen roles. Everyone has secrets.
The title is incorrect It appears that he was faithful to his first wife.
The Moon's a Balloon...the funniest, warmest autobiography ever written. One of my favourite actors and someone you couldn't help but love. Wish I'd met him.
I read about the death of his first wife, very sad.
Celebrities of his stature are subject to tremendous temptations. Beautiful women throw themselves at them. Some can resist, some can’t.

Poor darling abused as a child so sorry you lovely man
Very underrated actor
Nonsense
He was a lovely man.😊
If only i had as many conquests as him and Errol Flynn i would not be able to walk haha. Well presented.
Hahaha
You can see him in a video talking to David Cavett on his show. He was so much fun.
The love nest with Errol Flynn was a house on the beach in Malibu, not an apartment.
a true WW 2' veteran of the dark side of subversive warfare & covert operations an SOE agent whose been their and done it
Dont forget he was a widower, very tragic, in 1946
Loved his work on Four Star Playhouse
Any Niven fan , must watch his four star playhouse episodes.
They are well written, and well acted.

Lovely video. Very sad. Thank you.
Well interesting to hear about his past. But still a fan of his movies 🎬.
Whatever his sexual excessives he was an incredibly gifted and charming man thank you
That is horrible what he went through as a schoolkid.
Apparently having heartless School Masters or child-beating nuns is not the greatest School experience one can have.
Full of charm much like flynn
They used to live together in
Hollywood in the thirties
Women galore!

The narrator sells sofas? How odd!
I always understood that he was very faithful to his first wife - sooooo, he was capable of being faithful.
Never should have married in the first place
As charlton heston said
If you can't handle marriage
Best to leave it alone!
Love his auto books
hard to leave it if its thrown at you
At least he tried
Wtf..why add "only" to the title ?
His first wife died.
I figured...

I’m a David Niven fan. Very disappointed to hear about his dark side.
Read the dark side of the moon brilliant, his last wife was a cow
He c was a wonderful actor and writer

Why all the photos of Sharon Tate--- were they good friends?
They were in a movie together but I
guessed they probably got along too
What was "questionable" about Errol Flynn's sexuality, as claimed?
Not Charles Higham's notorious legend-making seeping in, is it?
Maybe some people aren't monogamous by nature. Why is it a problem and why is there so much interest?
Because adultery deeply hurts most people who have to contend with it. It is a deep betrayal of trust.

Hardly a unique or especially significant attribute.
Yeah, this was not admirable behavior on his part, but for both men and women in show business, this was and is pretty routine unfortunately.
Lol. The question is.... Why are most men in Hollywood failed to be faithful to one woman only?
he acted with himself ?

DN had a long and lucrative career in films but his escapades with men and women dogged him and tainted his legacy.
Was Errol Flynn bisexual?
he'd hump a shovel if it had a dress on it
Yes

...and they didn't mean with talent..😆
