The best way is to do minimal sanding between coats. Do a polished finish coat, then finish up with a damp sponge to blend the edges. Of course that’s from my experience. Thanks for sharing!
Can't get a good finish sand with a pole sander. Sanding sponges work well if you are a proficient mudder. I might wet-sand in a pinch with missed small repairs. But not by volume or new drywall. If you're not extremely careful while wet-sanding, you can remove the edge and create a hump or a "muffin". Which will be noticeable when viewing from an angle after priming or painting.
I think my finish with the pole sander went pretty well, but I hear you. Also, I feel like everyone will see it if I create a “humpy muffin” in my basement. With our without painting.
