No one could have better stated their case in a single sentence. Please read my comment for this "video" reaction -- you don't have to respond to it, just read it.
What I love about Band Maid is watching the growth. These songs were both 2017 or before. As they've progressed the writing and arranging has become more eclectic, fusing classic rock, modern metal, punk, pop hooks and even some hip-hop and classical influences without sounding like a Shrapnel Records band. Two newer songs that display some of this are "H-G-K" and "Influencer." H-G-K doesn't have a music video per se, but the label did upload the song with a placeholder image. Of course I just saw them live in Atlanta. They sold out the tour and absolutely killed it. "Domination -Official Live Video" is the way to progress in that regard.
@@Jhulian_R”Influencer,” in my opinion, is one of their weirder songs. Fun and funky, a blast to singalong at their concerts. But, I still can’t figure out where it fits other than the “Band-Maid genre”
@@lurkmerchant “Black Hole” and “Giovanni” in my humble opinion, are probably them stretching out there and challenging themselves. I wouldn’t recommend either as an introduction to the Maids. Same as I wouldn’t have someone listen to the entire “2112” composition as an intro to RUSH “Wonderland” is a cool choice, though. It always depends on the listener. Band-Maid have such crazy variety, a single song listen can either hook someone, or turn them off. e.g. “About Us” vs “Black Hole” Same band?! Yep 👍🏼
Thx for the reaction. "Thrill" and "Choose Me" for Band-Maid are like "Love Me Do" and "Twist and Shout" for the Beatles (except in Band-Maid's case, Thrill was not actually written by them). Both are great songs, but you appear to think they (along with Real Existence - another early song not written by them) represent the band's sound - which would be a mistake. This band is celebrated for its diverse sound, and how they fuse weird stuff together and make it beautiful. Check out "From now on" (instrumental) or "Corallium" off their most recent album to get something perhaps more "interesting" to you, or - since you seem to like anime music - their songs "Different" or "Sense" (both commissioned I think for animes). You might also like "Gion-cho" - a song written for their alter ego band Band-Maiko.
It's their "Love Me Do" indeed, pretty good comparison. Nowadays, you'll find a lot of people dissing The Beatles as a "boy band" because that's the only song of them they know! When you make them listen to A Day In The Life or Helter Skelter, they can't believe it's the same band only a few years later! Band-Maid's evolution has been much faster than most bands too, so basing an appreciation on their very early songs is unfair. So two recommendations: 1/ listen to more recents songs (From Now On is a wonderfull display of their talent, or Manners/Black Hole) 2/ listen to them LIVE because they shine on stage (Domination, Puzzle, No God)
Thank you for your recommendations guys. Indeed, it's not fair to rate this band based on these 2 songs, it'll be interesting to listen to what you say 🔥
Big thing your missing is Band Maid is first a live band. the music videos are great but most fans will tell you you need to hear them live! the go to reactor songs are domination, freedom, and play... or for something special Manners and Black Hole, two songs they put out in a single live video. anyway thanks for reacting to my fav band! they deserve all the recognition they can get
Dude you don't even know. You are on the precipice of a deep glorious pidgeon hole of proper rock and roll. Im 65 and I was there for the best rock music ever played. This is as good as the best then and far superior (IMO) to most of the musical offerings today. This is such a wonderful blend of ear worms, hooks, inventive riffs, super short guitar solos (more Kanami don't stop), dense drum fills, killer counterpoint bass lines under it all and magnificent vocals from Saiki and Kobato. Miku is kicking it with her guitar which is delightful as she couldn't play at all when she founded the band. To say you can play rhythm guitar with this group, and hold your own, while singing the lyrics in harmony that you wrote is more than impressive. Treat yourself to Domination LIVE or Blackhole LIVE or From Now On. I pity the person who thinks what you just heard is BandMaid. So come on in and don't stop at dipping your toe in the water. They're the real deal! Jimmy Page approved. 14:48
For sure they're pretty good, I only said the compositions I reacted to were average, but thank you for being willing to show me the way respectfully. Indeed, I really enjoyed the counterpoint bass lines as you could see in the video, thanks for the suggestions and your take on the band!
Welcome aboard, Jhulian. You are embarking on (along with many others - over 176 million YT views plus over 40 million reactor plays!) an awesome, progressive, hard-rock journey with 5 incredible women. Here's my intro blurb for those who may be new to Band-Maid:
BAND-MAID’s songs and sound beat with the heart and soul of all rockers. But you’ll also hear heavy influences of Prog, Punk, Metal and Pop, with nice touches of Blues, Jazz, Funk and Grunge. Sometimes they use multiple genres within the same song. Their Composition, Execution, Joy of Playing, Consistency (125 songs), Uniqueness, Charisma, Charm and, oh yeah, Cuteness factor, position them as becoming the hard rock Beatles of our time! In other words, they’re destined for mega-stardom. Each member's personalities are super interesting and their musicianship among the best. Their writing, arrangements and overall sound, especially guitar tones and drums, are kick-ass! Having seen them LIVE, I can honestly say their performance, sound, stage appearance, and band synergy is off-the-rails spectacular! Band-Maid is the only band in decades where I love nearly EVERY song they’ve done. I have over 70 favorites! At 29 and the youngest, “Sensei” (Teacher) as band members call her, has the last word on many musical decisions. High-heels or sneakers, Sai-chan’s smile melts away her sometimes perceived, coldish persona. Saiki’s powerhouse performances, charisma, and voice focus the experience that’s driven her to the top echelon of hard rock frontwomen... or frontmen! Miku Kobato (Me-Ku) "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals, lyricist, 31 years old. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR SpokesPigeon, po! Her “Magic Spell Time” charm and energy ignite the room. Kuruppo! No, no, no… KURUPPO!! Kanami Tono (Ka-Na-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, 31 years old, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want from Mincho is more! Akane Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums, 32 years old, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) while revolutionizing rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumZilla” is the Party! MISA (Me-Sa) "Barefoot Assassin" - Bass, 30 years old. An alluring free spirit driving her 5-string to rapturous low-ends while pulling off surprising counter leads with Kanami, off-stage MISA is the band’s goofball ballerina. Sometimes seen as the Mysterious One because she lets her instrument do the talking, the Assassin literally kills it… every note... uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. Thank you for your comments, I can definitely see (due to their success) they're really putting in the work. I hope I can get to know them better with your suggestions!
🎉 Thanks for your honest reaction. “Band-Maid doing Band-Maid Things” Complex and creative band that appeals to both casual listeners and musicians alike. Here’s the most interesting thing about the Maids. They write wildly different and unique songs that still sound like them. MISA’s bass tone kills. Kanami’s guitar parts are purpose-driven and melodic. Akane’s drumming?! Drum nerds study her rhythmic choices. I think your sophisticated ears would appreciate some of Band-Maid’s compositions with more depth and dynamics. “From Now On,” official music video. Heavy metal instrumental. “Blooming,” official music video. Dynamic shifts aplenty. A punk/pop/hard rock masterpiece These two are both in my top ten songs from Band-Maid. I’m a 56 year old bassist/guitarist/vocalist with no time for much of what passes for music these days. However, these 5 artists from Japan command my attention and deserve far more critical acclaim than they get
Whether overvrated or underrated, they are subjective to the person claiming them. Therefore, it is pointless to argue with each other. You either like it or you don't, that's all.
One of the biggest draws about Band Maid for me is the insane amount of variety in their catalogue. You will never get a handle on them from song to song. Real Existence and Thrill are both songs that were written for them in their first couple of years before Kanami's genius for composition exploded. Thrill was their first MV from 2015 that got a lot of peoples attention and Real Existence is a blast live. Choose Me I would describe as one of their easy listening pop/rock songs but it still contains all the brilliant elements we expect from Band Maid, great vocals both lead from Saiki and backing by Miku, slapping bass from Misa, Akane's driving and inventive drums and Kanami's lead which is always a highlight but often too short. Honestly we can recommend a ton of songs but you only really get how flipping awesome this band is by going through their entire catalogue.
The first song "Choose Me" was written by the lead guitarist Kanami Tōno with lyrics by the second guitarist and backup vocal Kobato Miku. The second song "Thrill" is older, it was their first music video and established the band. It was written by Kentarō Akutsu. Definitely listen to something newer - "from now on" is an instrumental from last October. I wonder what you will think after hearing it.
Tbh I find it funny that people think that wearing these pretty conservative maid outfits(especially newer uniforms that they wear) is somehow fetishising or sexualizing while shitload of western bands that are high esteem are practically naked or even fully naked on stage like Pretty Reckless, Wargasm, Maneskin etc etc. For Band-Maid they have become sort of battle uniforms, kinda look cool or weird and band itself has become used to it. Not every member was on board with these uniforms at the start.
Actually they have become less maid like uniform wise apart from Miku and Kanami, Akane is like school boy outfit ac/dc thing going on, misa the Chinese assassin, Saiki the goth queen/ninja infusion now.
One of the things I love about them is that they never stay the same. There's the chance they could change to something I don't like but so far that has NOT happened. They change. They get better. They keep my attention over and over. The funny thing is that they say they are totally there to serve. They call the audience Masters and Princesses and concerts are servings. They like the opposites of the cute maid along with the heavy rock. This is called the Gap.
I don't have any idea why people recommend Thrill or Chose Me (two older songs) as a first listen for this band. It's like picking Love Me Do and She Loves you as an example of what The Beatles are about. If you actually look at their outfits they are comparably less sexual then most females in rock music (and they are more talented then most other bands male or female today). You seemed to have your mind made up about the maid aspect of this band before really seeing them. The whole concept is the contrast between cute (not sexual) outfits and heavy music. The band calls it the gap. They WANT you to underestimate them so they can blow you away. As far as their music goes you chose two of the most basic songs they have. Pretty much listen to anything newer to understand what they are about and listen to them live.
I think he picked the songs based on the views. There's no problem with these 2 songs. Thrill got 2m view in the first 2 week since it was released. Many people started to search band maid's song since they listened to Choose Me in the Movie Kate. These 2 songs are the first song that those people listened to band maid. I don't think they have a bad taste. I think domination live is more basic comparing Choose Me but much more people suggest it.
Thanks for your takes guys! Yup, that's what I said around 5:20: they're less sexual than many girls in the industry, and more talented, I think with the variety of suggestions in the comments section I'll be able to have a better understanding of them😁
@@Wonderful-cr9lv @Jhulian_R My comment came across a bit more critical then I attended. You are right about these two songs being their most viewed on UA-cam, so it makes sense people would check them out first. Also, it was unfair to say you had your mind made up about the maid outfits before seeing the band. I think with a few more songs you'll get a better idea of what the band is all about. Have fun exploring Band-Maid.
@@philproffitt8363 I know the backstory. That doesn't mean almost 10 years later it's a good introduction to the band. It doesn't sound like who the band is today. We are all thankful that Thrill was a success and kept the band going but that doesn't mean it still represents what the band is about - they have grown a great deal (imo). Creep by Radiohead isn't a good example of them either. It might be their biggest song but they don't even like playing it live. Not all bands biggest hits are their best songs.
It is always a bit frustrating for a B-M fan when people who seem to understand a little bit about music and composing review Thrill or similar rather simple songs from their beginning. The Beatles love, love me do analogy used earlier fits. I strongly recommend making a judgment based on the more complex recent self-composed songs like e.g. H-G-K, Black Hole, From now on, Influencer, Rinne, Blooming, etc. You didn’t even scratch the surface here. The Ladies of Band-Maid got it all: Complex but catchy, versatility, flawless musicianship, unique compositions, top notch interplay, soaring vocals and beautiful harmonies and an insane powerful driving engine - one of the best rhythm section in rock ever ... and last but not least refreshing pure ego free and goofy personalities. „Learn the rules like a pro, so you can break them like an artist“ the credo of the great Picasso describes the path of evolving of the band quite appropriate. Band-Maid is an incredible creative band IMHO. Some bands embody perfection; other bands embrace chaos. Few bands can dance in both worlds the way Band-Maid does. Certainly not as consistently. Band-Maid often subverts common expectations after the first verse. The backbone trinity Kanami (Lead guitar), Akane (drums) and Misa (Bass) mainly don’t play by the common rules. And there are just a few bands that master the changes between styles so flawless. Their newer own compositions are way above average, if you listen e.g. the 7 songs from the actual EP Unleash or the album Unseen World you should get a better idea what Band-Maid is and why this band became one of the or the most favorite artists, often among musicians. And yes, comparing to the half naked wanna be pornstar style of many western female acts, the maid outfits are stylish but almost conservative. And as we know, the ones who feels sexualization or fetish regarding those battle clothes are the real pervert not the ones who wear them 😊
Since it was among their most popular work, I thought it'd be appropriate, my bad. I definitely have to listen to their other work and see for myself, thanks for the insight!
A thing about the maid outfits, Jhulian: as Fans and Maidiacs know, Miku -- the 2nd guitarist, lyricist, founder and who worked at a maid cafe -- wanted to show that everyday working "Kawaii" girls dressed as maids in high heels while having fun and smiling could rock as hard as any guy band sweating it up in their hip, poor tortured artists "outfits"... and by showing that contrast (the Gap), it would generate interest, which it so successfully has done! It also represents Woman Power (Equality), which is an important theme with the Maids. Now they show up as Maids for all band business and interviews, etc. and have created a long-lasting, unmistakable, visual band brand. Very cleaver, Miku. Your diabolical plan for world domination is working, Po! Of course, none of this would work if their music and stage performance wasn't at such a remarkably high level. Band-Maid is considered by many of their fans and Maidiacs to be the best hard rock band in the world - maid outfits and all!
@@Jhulian_R Your "tits and asses" and simping remark was way off base. Band-Maid has never been about that. Just look at your comments here, or in the MV's themselves, and you will find no prurient remarks, just admiration and respect for their hard work, superior song writing and musicianship.
@@johnmatthew102 Is not only about the foundations of the group, sure they didn't want that specifically, but it represents things like that and I feel that most of the fan bases of the group are men, leaving the music aside, the clothes (even if they are a "normal thing in Japan" it doesn't mean are ok, like Dalai Lama kissing a little boy on the mouth) represents power of roles of men over women and it causes a lot of simping about how "sexy" they look, is not judging the group, it judging the fans that promote and make things like that normal...
Band-Maid has become one of my top 5 bands over the past year. I actually put off listening to them for a while because of the maid outfits, but once I started, the music and talent quickly became apparent. I think you will find that madiacs are all about the music and are very respectful of the maids. The costumes are just part of their stage personas. We're not out here ogling. Next, they have a catalog of over 100 songs with a lot of variety. So with just three songs (and not their best songs) you should not feel confident that you "know" Band-Maid. I don't think you feel that way, but just a caution. The third thing is related to your comment that it's nothing new that you can't get elsewhere. I think you're half-right. There is a familiarity in their songs that, for those of us of a certain age, transports us back to 70's, 80's, and 90's in spirit. It's new, but it *feels* old. That is part of the appeal for many madiacs including me. The last thing is that Band-Maid is almost always better live than in the studio. As others have mentioned, Domination, Play, and Freedom are great live videos with high quality audio. Puzzle is their newest live video and it is also a pretty complex song. They have an even better live version of it on Band Maid Prime. Not free, but worth every penny. Enjoy the journey!
Recommendations for someone wanted to hear music that is different from what you're used to: "from now on", "Black Hole" (live), "Different" (if you're open to music that is different but not heavy, then also "Wonderland", "Gion-cho"). Band-Maid's music is extremely diverse, and of course their most viewed songs will be the songs with the most mass appeal, and therefore their most normal-sounding songs. Given what you're looking for, it's unfortunate that you've formed an opinion based on their three most viewed songs on UA-cam. If you end up not liking them, that's fine of course, but a couple of things: (1) Forget about the clothes if you find them off-putting, as I did. They are only prejudicing you against the music, as they did me. I understand a bit more about Japanese culture now and the outfits don't bother me any more, but for now, just focus on the music. (2) Given how much Band-Maid experiment with different styles, you can't really form an informed opinion on them without listening to a few dozen songs. Not expecting you to do that, of course, but if you decide they're not for you, that doesn't mean that the critical acclaim is undeserved. They undeniably have an extraordinary discography - that doesn't mean everyone will enjoy it.
Thank you for your pretty objective POV, I payed attention to the outfits, but I don't think they were deceive into enjoying their songs or not, I was just appreciating them and wondering about their cultural impact. I'm all in for diversity, maybe in the future I'll be enjoying them much more, or as you said maybe not, who knows!
Well apart from Miku and Kanami the rest don't even look like Maids anymore anyway. And their music has evolved so much, and Miku has a big attitude 😂 and Kanami turns into Godzilla on stage. Only Miku's magic spell time reminds me that they are Maids.
Thrill, though a great simple song, is Band Maid with training wheels on. Choose Me is Band Maid matured, and leveled up some… but not leveled up as much as they are nowadays. More interesting? Blooming… No God… Black Hole… Influencer… From Now On, to name some. Oh, and Puzzle… can’t forget that song! What I find that sets Band Maid apart from every current rock group (IMO) and even most classic rock groups (again, IMO) is that they have songs as great as any rock song you’ll ever hear, then the rest of their songs (over 100 at this point) are also so uniformly good that it’s hard to rank them. But, unlike many bands-even some legendary ones-they don’t have bad songs. No songs you’ll want to skip on a playlist. The list of rock bands with a catalog as large as theirs that I would say that about is quite short!
First both these songs are from their early careers before the6 started writing their own music. Second they shine live, great performers and add elements to songs not on studio. Third Real Existence live is an absolute fucking banger, if you have not seen the live go watch it. You seem way worried about their attire or how they sell themselves aka gimmick. I would just about guarantee you know jack shit about the whole Maid Cafe esthetic they are plating off of. The rhythm guitarist worked in a maid cafe and thought, hey how about maids playing hard rock. It is a play off the gap in expectations vs what you hear. You may not find them interesting and that is fine your choice. Meanwhile they keep winning fans who see them live. I have been going to concerts since 1985 and have been to tons. Band Maid is in my top tier of live acts I have seen.
Just one small correction, Choose Me they did write themselves, it was right at the point where they switched to writing all their own music and the whole single was written by them.

At the time she had just left the Idol Group, Lil Cumin and she didn't like the type of music she had been performing. She approached her management agency with the idea of making an actual band playing rock music but dressed as maids. She had worked in a Maid Cafe and thought the image of maids playing rockin music would create what she called "The Gap" between what you see and what you hear. The Management company was like Ok, go ahead. Miku then looked around and found Kanami a singer/songwriter who was posting her own videos on the internet. Miku had her agency contact her and Kanami thought the idea was cool and agreed to join. Miku then asked if Kanami knew a drummer who might be interested. Kanami had worked with Akane in the past and there is 2 versions of this, the first is, Kanami literally walked over to Akane's apartment and asked her, the second is Kanami called Akane and asked her. (Akane has said in 2 different interviews that 1: Kanami called her and asked if she could come over and 2: in a second interview Kanami just came over) Akane was actually hesitant as she had worked in an "All Girl Group" before and didn't enjoy it as it wasn't the type of music she wanted to play. After hearing a Demo, Akane was like ok, but was still slightly hesitant because of the "Maid Outfits", but she agreed to give it a try. Akane was asked if she knew a bass player and she had gone to Tokyo School of Music with MISA and had worked a couple of jobs with her. So Misa was contacted and after she heard a demo she was like I like the music, but she also was hesitant about the "Maid Outfits", but she relented and joined in as she really wanted to play the kind of music she heard in the demo. The 3 of them then "Auditioned" for the record company and passed the audition. Now we have the "Core" members. The 4 members worked out some songs provided for them by the record company, and a setlist and they had performed 3 times with just Miku on main vocals. Miku after those performances felt that her voice wasn't powerful enough to really perform the songs she wanted. So she approached her management company again and asked if they had any singers who weren't in other projects. They then auditioned several singers. Miku heard Saiki rehearsing in a room across the hall and asked if she could be auditioned, the record company then had Saiki audition. Saiki was signed to the same management company and had done some work as a backup singer and dancer and was asked if she would be interested in auditioning for this new group which currently had 4 members and she would be the fifth. She had been a member of a group with 8 other people as a backup singer and dancer, and HATED it. So she listened to the demo and thought "Cool" because she liked the music. Now we come to the tricky part. Miku KNEW that if Saiki was told about the "Maid Outfits" she would say NO WAY!, so they didn't tell her. They told her they would have "Cool/cute Clothes"(I've read it translated either way), and she never met Miku until a few days before they had a contracted performance. She wasn't told about the "Maid Outfits" until the day before the performance, and she had considered backing out, but she had signed the contract. (Saiki also had NEVER met Miku until then as well) So the Ladies, went and did the performance and Saiki really, REALLY liked the crowds reaction and the music they were performing. She DIDN'T like the apron she wore so it got ditched after the first performance. And you now have the beginnings of the BEST LIVE HARD ROCK BAND in the WORLD! ALL HAIL BAND MAID!!!!! Now that we have the Full band, it was felt that there needed to be a second guitar. Saiki was like, "Not Me, No Way." So Miku said, "I'll do it.", at first that was literally all she did, was hold the guitar and mime playing it, until Akane said, if you are going to hold it, you NEED to learn to play it. And Miku said, "Ok.", and Kanami started to teach Miku how to play. The Ladies released their first album in 2014 "Maid in Japan" which failed to chart, but later after "Thrill" it was reissued and charted to #26 in Japan.
Then in 2015 they released "New Beginning" On New Beginning was the song that changed Band Maid's entire existence. "Thrill"... The band was getting ready to release their first music video and the choice was between "Love, Passion, Matador" and "Thrill" and the ladies chose Thrill. (Little known fact, Miku helped with the lyrics on Thrill but did not get credited) This became the seminal moment of Band Maid. Because their second album charted at #64, the record company was seriously considering disbanding the Ladies and switching them to other projects. (In fact they had Kanami and Akane work with Mochi to Cheese thinking that when Band Maid cratered they could use them in another band. MISA had also just started working with Mochi to Cheese as well). However about 6 months after the video's release, a Facebook page "JRock Radio" posted the video to their timeline. And the video went viral. Having over a million views in just a few short weeks. The Ladies Twitter page got so many hits they thought their page had been hacked. Their UA-cam channel also started getting more and more subscribers and views to Thrill. Now the ladies knew where their fans wanted them to go. Harder Rock, less pop. And history was Maid.
Excellent work! Band Maid history in a nutshell....a very big nutshell but shows your admiration for these 5 unbelievable ladies i look upon as if they were my own goofy granddaughters and so very proud of them!
Band-Maid is so underappreciated, they are a gem of incredibly talented musicians. I would suggest 'From Now On' as a good representation of their talents as instrumentalists. 'Influencer' is more of a fusion of musical styles, and to my ears more experimental. Personally, I find the official live versions of 'Domination', 'Freedom', or MV for 'Dice' to be a really good representation of how great they are at writing and song structure. Also, at how far the rhythm guitarist Miku has come in learning how to play guitar(being instructed by the lead guitarist Kanami). Great band to react with Jhulian 🤘🤘
Let's describe these songs. The Dragon Cries , Manners , Bubble , Rinne , No god , Black hole , Sense , Unleash , From now on , Gion cho , After Life , I'll , Different .

I'm a little shocked right now! It's not about their looks and the maid costumes? 😱Damn, why did not someone tell me that years ago!!! Hmm, never mind. For me, the ladies are still right with one of their own statements. 👇🏻 _____________________ 「 _"Our rock never dies ever. Forever!"_ 」 - from *BAND-MAID* - 'Manners' 🎶🕊🤘🏻
Thrill was there break out hit is 10 years old and as others have said not written by them. Something interesting really depends on what you find interesting. But I would suggest puzzle live. Or the music video for blooming. Or either instrumentals onset live and from now on music video.
actually my fav singer is ADO and my fav band is Band-Maid. Common points: versatile and high level technics. For Ado we have well described in your other video; for Band-maid you have only scratch the surface. FYI Thrill was a b-side from their beginning. Try to check recents songs like "Puzzle (live)" or "From now on" available on their UA-cam page. Then deep dive in this pigeon hole with "Domination (Live)".... Band-Maid serves very good music covering all spectre of hard-rock (from ballad to metal).
Awww sweetie nobody is criticizing here, just adults sharing music and opinions. It seems it's way past your bedtime, take this lolipop 🍭 and let the adults talk, remember this content is only for grown ups sweetheart, muah!😘
You're thinking too deep about the maid outfits. The backing vocalist/rhythm guitarist Miku (the one with pigtails) came up with the band idea because she thought it was fun and cute to have girls in maid outfits play heavy music. She used to work at a Japanese maid cafe where the waitresses dressed as maids and would do dances and songs at request (think gimmicky family restaurant). Their genius is taking something familiar then adding a layer of depth and texture to it that extends beyond what you normally get from that sub-genre. Choose Me is an example as pop-rock songs will sound familiar but lack the details in the instrumentation, lack the drum fills, and most obviously lack a guitar solo. It's not the most technically demanding song out there, but it's not close to their most technically demanding either. What it does do is elevate the sub-genre the song falls in. As far as Thrill goes, Thrill was a very, very early song written for them. It lacks the nuance that their self-written compositions have. Still catchy, but not their most technical and not everybody likes pop-rock though. I highly suggest *Domination LIVE (not MV)* to get a real idea of what it's like at a show (that show had the best mixing and most accurately reflects their shows including overseas like here in America). It's hard rock & metal mix unlike these two pop-rock songs. They also have two instrumentals on their channel if you have any doubt about their talent. Onset Live and From Now On MV are worth checking out. If you want Prog Rock and Prog Metal, I suggest No God and Black Hole. Black Hole might be their most technically demanding. Cheers.
You should give the "From now on" (MV-instrumental), "Rinne" (MV-more metal), "No God" (Live - features the bassist) and "Puzzle" (live-a lot of guitar work). Thrill was their first MV and was the song that saved the band as they were close to calling it quits. Enjoyed and have a great one.
Another thing I'd like to infrom you. You've watched "Bocchi the Rock", right? Do you know why did they run the maid cafe in the school festival and wear the maid outfit in EP 11? It is a tribute from the author to Band Maid.
They have increasing number of young fans and female fans. You see families and couples at live shows these days because their music has won people over. If you love more Japanese melody lines, secret my lips, blooming, Wonderland, bubble, warning, even some of their most chaotic songs like Giovanni and corallium have traditional Japanese music inspired vocal melody. It's hidden very well and easy to miss but as an enka fan (traditional kinda Japanese music) I hear the influence too. As you dive deeper into this band, and listen to more songs, the more you listen the more details you hear. Sadly too many of their gems don't have mv and don't get too many views, or taken down from their official UA-cam channel. But most maidiacs are helpful and send you links and audio files.
GIOVANNI is a song that will give you a proper conclusion as to where you think BAND-MAID fits in the metal/rock/prog genres. As BAND-MAID achieved their independence creatively, they have grown exponentially. Jhulian, take a chance and listen to GIOVANNI then make your decision as to whether or not you want more BAND-MAID. They have an instrumental version of this song on video - it's worth the few minutes of your time. (thank you for reacting to these girls)
Man, after watching this video, maybe I have wasted the last 16 months. Perhaps Jimmy Page, Tony Visconti and Justin Hawkins are wrong! Maybe their 530,000 subs are being bamboozled, and your 9,000 are right. Hmmmm. Also, last time I checked, they don't have a Patreon or stream on Twitch.
After 10yrs i'm still waiting for them to get their titties & asses out cos i've never seen it. And the only people that seem to have a fetish thing are those outside the Maidiac fanbase cos they seem to be the only one's who mention the Maid costumes. Btw i gave you a like after 1min, soz i couldn't do it quicker :)
Haha don't take it personal my dude/girl❤️ Even you said in a previous comment I picked their most "mediocre" songs, and even if a person has only 1 subscriber or none, ithey are entitled to have an opinion different to yours, how boring it'd be for everyone to have the same.opiniom as if all of is were mass produced like copies.
Let's analyze the career of "The Beatles": compositional skills, originality, technical ability, social influence. We will decide to confine our research to studio recordings released in 1964 and 1965. In the interest of avoiding intellectual prejudice, we will not read any interviews with the band members, analyses from other researchers and biographers, or any form of references dealing with the band's conceptualization, perceptions, artistic goals, technical background, or their thoughts on politics, moral viewpoints, human interactions, needs for societal change, et cetera. How valid will our conclusions be? You've chosen to review works from 2014-16, for a band with a 10-year (to date) career path. You pose questions that even superficial research would answer. You draw conclusions without establishing a solid, objective, historical context from which to derive them. Do some basic research before your next Band Maid reaction. Focus on songs released in the most recent five years of their career: MVs, PVs and official "lives". They have over 130 songs. Try listening to the following works: "From Now On", "Don't Be Long", "Onset", "Without Holding Back", "Giovanni", I Still Seek Revenge", "H-G-K" (instrumentals); "Hibana", "Warning", "Different", "Black Hole" (MVs/PVs); "Take me Higher" (2017 version), "Don't You Tell Me" (2018 version), "Play" (2022 version), "No God" (2023 version) (Official "Lives"). This band is technically skilled (across the board), are exemplary composers/arrangers, and have clearly better-than-average lyrics. They take intelligent artistic chances, they continually work on formally enhancing their knowledge and mastery of their craft, they are artists and entertainers (confident, humorous, but never egotistical), and they are at one with their fan base. They deserve much more than what you are giving them, much, much more. Start your analysis of these players and their body of work anew, and see what your thoughts are in a few months.
Well, the oldest A.K.A classics and most popular songs are usually the most common approach to be introduced to a band, and that was what happened. For example you, generally, you won't start knowing Metallica by listening to their newest album 72 seasons. It is implied that me, thinking they are "standard", is based solely on the appreciation of these 2 songs, I thank you for your respectful opinion contrary to mine and since you requested solid and objective arguments: Tell me how ONLY the 2 songs in this video stand out of the ordinary. Maybe other songs will change my perspective, but only these 2 (specially Thrill) gave me this impresion. It's amusing how I never said anything bad about this band, recognized their hard work and even praised it, still some of you are making such a fuss about it as if I'd have said they're the worst shit ever 😅
@@Jhulian_R Beginning chronologically is commonplace. However, as a minimum, you should sample works from the full breadth of a band's work (chronologically) to get an accurate overview of how they progressed as artists over their careers: creatively, technically, in terms of more advanced compositions, arrangements and lyrical work. "Thrill" was their first video, made-on a semi-shoestring budget, just as the band was forming their identity and starting to truly master their instruments. Shouldn't you check out a representational group of their more recent work, to see how the band has progressed, and to provide a fair overview of their career? Recognizing hard work is not the same thing as acknowledging talent, creativity, technical ability or growth as people and as artists. Please listen to a selection of their later work and do at least a bit of research on the band.
@@GaryHolloway-810 My response to your first reply was assigned by You Tube to "at Jhulian", when it should have been "at Gary"; if it doesn't show-up in your messages you can (obviously) see it in the comments attendant to the original reaction. Band Maid are Class...they're only band that I can think of "off the cuff" wherein I find that I respect all of the members -- as professional artists, and as people. If all of the world could be more like them....
@@bruceveary1758 Thx Bruce for your comments & that goes for Jhulian too cos tho you both have differing views neither of you have resorted to nastiness :)
Not seeing a reaction to 'Real Existence'. You need to do their Official LIVE version. You nailed it. They are the new Beatles, except they're girls, and from a differnt island, and there are five of them, but other than that, they bring the hits, well over 100 of them! They do call their concerts "Services" and believe me, you get served! These maids will mop the floor with lesser bands. They are musician's musicians. If you want to check out some of their more complex stuff try, 'Black Hole', or an instrumental like 'Without Holding Back'. But if you like it more "Japanesey" you could try their anime theme song for Yu-Gi-Oh VRAINS, 'Glory', or 'Unleash' which is animated in anime style, or their April Fool's Day persona, BAND-MAIKO which has traditional Japanese in it.
OMG such primal narrative, full of cliches, as if you were the only one who listen lot of music. You are free to like or not artist, just even i as an 'amateur' in music can understand that most songs of Band Maid doesn't follow standard, an organized chaos, with magic Drum , Bass, super short guitar solo. IMAO i like them mainly for their music, but i also appreciate their personnae. Bye.
Thanks for looking at BAND-MAID again. Try Manners-Black hole live from their official UA-cam page, the contrast between the 2 songs really shows what BAND-MAID is about, Black hole sounds like it is more what you are looking for. By the way they are usually better Live, lots of Live performances on their UA-cam page.
I understand that this is your opinion but I was expecting a more grounded comment before saying that BAND MAID is an overrated or standard or an average band. As Tony Griffin says in another comment, and using your words, you still have a lot to learn. Today your knowledge, seems to me, overrated. You can say... I do not like or nothing new or whatever but no, you say overrated, standard...Come on Jhulian, open your mind or open your ears or both !
Tony Griffin deleted his comment when ai was replying him 😔 But as I told him: Yup, there's nothing more annoying and funnier than a person who thinks he/she knows it all, it's pretty ignorant. It's okay if you think my knowledge or I'm overrated and regarding why I said this band was standard, I said it on the video I can find this same type of music in another 20+ bands, this was based on just these two songs, now it's interesting you think these two songs can be "unique" or "out of the ordinary", I'm willing to read your take on why and argument it. Many people here said that I listened to their most: "simple or mediocre" songs, and they're Band-maid fans, you seem like a nice guy, don't let a simple opinion (where I was always respectful to the girls and their work) to upset you, you seem like a nice guy ❤️ I'm open to keep listening and learning about this band 🙂
@@Jhulian_R It's all subjective and about personal taste at the end of the day but you must have something when they can count among their fans members from Slipknot, Incubus, The Warning and Tony Visconti who was so impressed by them he asked if he could produce one of their songs (The Dragon Cries), has attended at least 2 of their concerts and has stated that they are one of the best bands he's ever heard. And Akane (drums) has a fan in Jimmy Page, who after seeing them at an awards show asked for a picture with Akane backstage and told her that she was really impressive. Justin Hawkins was also impressed when he listened to Dice but got confused by their brilliant arrangement skills by thinking there is a time signature change in the song, Band Maid will do that to you by using a lot of syncopation. From a personal standpoint, my favourite bands are The Beatles, Led Zep, Pink Floyd, Free, Cream and Band Maid all equally and there is absolutely nothing else from the last 40 years that can touch any of them in my mind.
@@Jhulian_R Good answer Jhulen. I also thought it was only two songs but to rate a band as overrated with only two songs is quite risky and it is this point that puzzled me, so then I too rated your musical knowledge as overrated with only one reaction. Well, absolute values don't exist and there is more street around the corner. Stick with them or not. They are on their way and, in my personal opinion, are an exceptional band that will be talked about for a long time to come. That said, an appropriate and respectable response from you. Maidiacs are tolerant and easy going but 'electrical' when consider that an injustice, under our criteria' is done. Thanks
@@edwardallen4051 It is matter of perspective, you're right and what you and others say about brilliant arrengements, time signatures confusion, songs with different genres mixed sounds so dope, that's the kind of stuff I'm into, so it'll be amazing to check that out!
@@javiervicedo4201 We agree on that! absolute values don't exist, I'm also sorry if: overrated/average/standard sounded as an absolute statement, it's only the perspective I perceived from those 2 songs. Their "Unleash" MV is half anime. The live Manners / Black Hole combination is a lovely introduction to more-recent music and a surprising contrast -- first a bluesy rock song and then a holy shit song.
You picked their first hit from 8 years ago and a pretty mediocre, slow song of theirs. Also, neither Thrill or Real Existence were their own compositions, so I feel you are only judging less than half of their ability. Here's a challenge for you. Sit down and listen to their latest full length album, Unseen World, all 14 tracks, all written and composed by themselves, then come back and let's see what you think. Then, watch them live, 2018 Zepp Tokyo, 2020 Line Cube Shibuya, or even recent fancams, and tell me they can't perform. Or, even better, watch them transform 14 of their hard rock songs into a 2021 acoustic Christmas present solely for their fans. Then, perhaps, we can have an informed discussion
Well I'm glad I'm not the only want finding those songs mediocre (although I did like Choose Me, even if it's basic 🙈). You're right, and that's what I have you guys here, to show me the way 🙌
@@Jhulian_R I have to admit that I wouldn't have become a fan if Thrill was the first song I listened to. Choose me is, to me is a commercial, a radio friendly song that made them more popular but not my favourite. Like others have already said, check out the live version. I didn't like Saiki's vocal in studio recording early on. It's far poppier than her actual live vocal, which is powerful and deep. I know that technicality isn't everything, but 2016 album just bring it was a huge step forward both in their musicality and composition. They have very distinctive way of fusing different elements, even my least favourite songs have part interesting enough to make me listen. As their technicality caught up they started to experiment further and challenge fans. You are lucky to be a reactor, so people will guide you through musical journey, if you weren't you'd probably have missed out on so many gems they created. And thank you for your honesty. I don't like people reacting to thrill and rave how good it is...I mean, it is still a great rock song that appeal to those who are into 70s rock, but not that interesting and they were in that "pretty good for cute girls in maid uniform" era.
Definitely not overrated, but these songs (as well as Real Existence) are not the best songs to really showcase the levels of virtuosity they actually possess! By the way, their whole persona is that they are there to "serve" the audience. They literally call their concerts "servings," and refer to their fans as Masters and Princesses. Their image and maid schtick is based on the fact that Miku (red rose, backup singer and second lead vocalist, rhythm guitar) was working in a maid cafe when she came up with the band idea.
So Miku was trying to put an and together while working in a cafe where her outfit was a maid uniform. So she planned a band where they all wore maid outfits. She was going to be the lead singer. But then they ran across Saiki and Miku decided to be a backup singer because she loved Saikis voice. Then Kanami started to teach Miku to play the guitar. You see in Trill that Miku is basically holding the guitar more than playing it. She was very new to playing. Later on Kanami made ‘Play’ which was just the band jamming to give Miku more time playing with the band, trying new things, just playing around. Saiki saw all the fun they were having and figured out some vocals so she could join in with them. And now we get to enjoy it live. It isn’t a conventionally made song, but when you know the background it makes sense. As everyone will say, just watch them live. They are a killer live band.
You're an anime lover. You've listened to many Japanese songs before. I suggest the following songs from band maid which (IMO) you can't easliy find something similiar in the other Japanese bands. 1. Black Hole.2. Influence 3. secret my lips, 4. Coarllium, 5. Puzzle. IMO, what makes band maid great is not they have some great songs, it's that they don't make any band songs(song writing skill).
You have no idea. A lot of people just skip over them because of the maid outfits. Listen to one song and you stop caring about the outfits and almost forget their wearing them because the musicians are so damn good. Thanks to reactors, they have an even bigger following than they already had, which, from what I can tell was already huge.
Blackhole, From now on (instrumental). are more technical Different and Sense are two songs Band-Maid have recorded for anime themes as others have already commented their Live performances are where they shine.
Despite a lot of moaning below, 'Thrill' worked just fine for me in 2020...I quickly binged everything and collected all their back-catalogue of CDs and video releases. I recommend the MV 'Dice' next and then classic Official Live videos (Domination, Freedom, Onset etc...). A lot worth discovering IMHO before being wowed by their post-covid step-change in intensity. I was glad I'd heard all their output before 'Different' dropped...and witnessing the release of all work since has been a pleasure. Keep on with Maid Rock...any way you like :-)
You seriously need to check out BM's repertoire. This is just the tip of the tip of the iceberg's tip. At this, their 10th year of real existence, they have built up such a catalogue that one can no longer categorize them. They've been writing their own songs for quite a while now and in many of those songs, they can serve you 2-3 genres in a single song. No kidding. They're that unique and so "frustratingly" different from most other rock bands that it's hard to pigeonhole them (pun fully intended). To plagiarise the words of a well-known reactor, Chase Carneson, "It's just Band Maid doing Band Maid things." Try, AWKWARD, PUZZLE, MATCHLESS GUM, ONSET, FROM NOW ON, YOLO, ONE AND ONLY, SECRET MY LIPS, SMILE, MORATORIUM (live), TURN ME ON (live), DONT YOU TELL ME (live), TAKE ME HIGHER (live), NON FICTION DAYS, WARNING, SCREAMING, BLOOMING, DAYDREAMING, RINNE, HGK, GIOVANNI, HONKAI, FREEZER, GLORY, DICE, just to name a few.
Some Japanese bands, old and new. Whomever is suggesting songs to you is picking the most simplistic stuff in their rather large catalog. 2 of the 3 songs you have listened to were not even written by them. Please try "Different" or anything off of their "Unseen World" album. Different: ua-cam.com/video/edlLhh8qVxM/v-deo.html
You listened to 3 songs: One of their worst (they have ~3), a very good one, and their first ever. I don't see how you could come to any conclusion after that. You still have to listen to 127 songs...
p.s Im totally sick of people being introduced to BM with thrill or choose me lol.. If i was introducing someone to BM those 2 songs would NEVER appear even in the first 50! How about Domination live, or warning or play MV, or - well, almost anything else lol.
Band-Maid's newer material is far better. They were a good band in 2014, but they've steadily gotten better year after year. They didn't write their own songs back then, "Choose Me" was maybe the third of their self-written compositions that they released? Band-Maid grows on you because you never hear the same thing twice. Give a listen to "Giovanni", their latest live version of "Puzzle" or the instrumental "From Now On" or watch their live performances of "Domination", Freedom", or "Play" to see what a great live performance looks like. Band-Maid is attention-worthy not because they've produced a handful of hit songs, but because they have consistently written and produced well over 100 songs, any ten of which any other band would be proud to have released, and that audiences don't get tired of listening to. All their songs are well performed, and when later they release a live version or you watch them perform it live, you can tell they've worked on the arrangement to make the song better. I can't think of another band that works as tirelessly as Band-Maid does to bring their music to their fans.
I'm always intrigued when people use descriptors like overrated, mid, average, and generic. It let's me know I'm dealing with true masters of their craft. Always seems to be the case that when I do check out their own work I'm blown away by their creativity, technical skills, and complex song writing 🙄
Don't take it personal ❤️ I never disrespected them or said they can't play. I see you're upset for not praising (even tho I pay respects and did praise their herd work) your favorite band. If they play better or worse is irrelevant, no one is judging that, but this kind of comments just show what's in your heart and brain, you're better than this ❤️
Hi! I totally agree with you about looking a little bit further on what a famous group wants to say with the clothes and colors they use, we live in a capitalist society where the product is more important than the quality (I'm not saying they're bad in the music they do, not at all), just that is also very important to look at all behind a band, person, movie, show, etc. And off course I'm absolutely pro - questioning and breaking idols that are only a product to satisfy and justify power roles naturalized in our societies, the naturalization doesn't mean some things are ok and sometimes we have to stop being so fan, ignoring that fact. AGAIN, I'm not saying Band-Maid are bad or a product or that they naturalize awful things! I'm just saying, that is important for us to see that and analyze everything we like, sometimes we might get sad, but I think it's really necessary for us to do it constantly. Thanks for the video and the oppinions you bring.🤩
Do you want to check out some all-female Japanese Metal, try Lovebites "Judgment Day" or if anime is your thing try "Winds of Transylvania " Vlad Love version.
Not even close- in fact its the total opposite- they are way better than most people realise. p.s Thrill and choose me are not good examples they are not 'bad' but they are ancient and i'd say 95+% of their songs are better than them both- and you need to listen to quite a few songs to start getting an idea of just how varied their content is and how amazing they are as musicians - (Misa and akane and kaname are legit some of the best playing) and kaname is an incredible writer. p.s their outfits were the founder miku's idea and its about contrasting image to sound it has nothing to do with sexualizing them- they are not some studio band. p.p.s go check out some reaction videos from serious old rock musician dudes like ryan meer - watch his reaction to No god for example.. and listen to him talk about them.. there are plenty of other old time rock fans and musicians who absolutely know what makes great music and rock- who all totally LOVE band maid. And there is a damn good reason - and it is not their outfits lol. BM are especially loved by musicians because they are great musicians who write great music with a lot of deapth and far more going on that they need to. I 100% guarantee if you listened to their catalogue they would be one of your fav ever rock bands. Try PLAY or warning or from now on MVs if you want to see a more true representative MV - or listen to onset, domination, the older no god vid, or well, almost any of their live stuff (go for the vids with most views in most cases). You wont have a clear idea of them till you have heard at least 20 tracks- tho just a few better selected will start to clue you in.
I don't know how to put it. I appreciate their musicianship, I really like some of their songs but the rest doesn't click with me. Maybe it sounds weird but I often don't like their melodies, you know, like when you listen to something and think what would you like better, if this was different a bit like this, this one section shorter with this and that.. Some bands and songs are simply perfect and you can't find anything that you would change. Bandmaid isn't among these for me.
Those were my thoughts on this first listen, if you or I don't ever like them that much it's ok, people do want you to be obligated to share their tastes, otherwise will fight 🤣 This world is crazy. Glad to know I'm not alone ❤️🔥
FINALLY an honest reaction, to this very MID band. YES, they're not bad, just average 👏. Mad respect for not faking liking this just for views and subs 👏
An honest reaction? Oh, poor man. How long did you have to wait for such a "reaction" to which you can finally say "MID". 5 years? Now you can wait a while again!
Music is subjective and no band can appeal to everyone. Thanks for at least listening to them. The BM fanbase is loyal and passionate; I always encourage respect, also. There are plenty of different bands out there for you. Be well
@@zolitoth2458 I mean this band is nothing out of the ordinary, just because they are girls wearing maid outfits, I'm not gonna lie and say they are the ultimate paragon of musical innovation
it's weird how so many fans take personal offense to someone not liking their favorite group. seriously chill out people.
For real, it's weird and concerning.
Is crazy how rare is a common sense or "normal" comment in this video 😅
No they're not overrated, just damn well underappreciated.
Hear hear. Not sure the Mighty Maids can be overrated.

Encouraging you to keep exploring. They’ve got some surprises in store for you
Thanks for the support Mike, I'm looking forward to it ☺️
What I love about Band Maid is watching the growth.
I wish I'd said all that. 😮
Those other kind of songs you mentioned sound like a lot of fun actually!
@@chrisegbertky Hey, I just saved you the time. 😋👍
If you want more complex or interesting songs, I would suggest their newer music like “from now on”, “Corallium”, or maybe “influencer”.
Thanks! 🤩
@@Jhulian_R”Influencer,” in my opinion, is one of their weirder songs. Fun and funky, a blast to singalong at their concerts. But, I still can’t figure out where it fits other than the “Band-Maid genre”
Do you think Giovanni and black hole are a bit too out there? Wonderland is deceptively complex and proggy without sounding it.
@@lurkmerchant “Black Hole” and “Giovanni” in my humble opinion, are probably them stretching out there and challenging themselves. I wouldn’t recommend either as an introduction to the Maids. Same as I wouldn’t have someone listen to the entire “2112” composition as an intro to RUSH
“Wonderland” is a cool choice, though. It always depends on the listener. Band-Maid have such crazy variety, a single song listen can either hook someone, or turn them off.
e.g. “About Us” vs “Black Hole” Same band?! Yep 👍🏼
@@MusicMike747giovanni and start over by the same band?😂
Take a listen to their MV "From Now On' and their live MV of "Onset" then try Puzzle (official live Video) and reevaluate.
Thanks, for sure I'm willing!
Indeed, it's not fair to rate this band based on these 2 songs, it'll be interesting to listen to what you say 🔥
...or my favourite "Blooming"...
@Jhulian_R Blooming ! Great song!
The Beatles also had songs written for them as well.
Big thing your missing is Band Maid is first a live band. the music videos are great but most fans will tell you you need to hear them live! the go to reactor songs are domination, freedom, and play... or for something special Manners and Black Hole, two songs they put out in a single live video. anyway thanks for reacting to my fav band! they deserve all the recognition they can get
Amen good sir! Preach!
It's my pleasure to explore music with you, thank you for the suggestions!
Well said.🙂👏👏
For sure they're pretty good, I only said the compositions I reacted to were average, but thank you for being willing to show me the way respectfully.
"Thrill" (2014) is a great place to start: ua-cam.com/video/Uds7g3M-4lQ/v-deo.html Their songs from albums Unleash, Unseen World, Conqueror, World Domination, Just Bring It, Brand New Maid, and New Beginning drive even more - Warning, No God, Different, Black Hole, Rinne, Blooming, Moratorium, Domination, Clang, Dice, Spirit, Don’t You Tell Me, Turn Me On, Fate, Play, Hide-And-Seek, Secret My Lips, Puzzle, Choose Me, I Can’t Live Without You, and on and on.
But don’t miss out on their powerful, beautifully written, mid-tempo songs like Daydreaming, About Us, Memorable, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE, At The Drop Of A Hat, Mirage and Smile... or more punky like After Life, Don’t Let Me Down and Screaming… or funky like Bubble… or bluesy like Manners and The Dragon Cries… or poppy like Start Over… or a bit jazzy like Wonderland… or progressive like No God, Giovanni, and Black Hole… or cultural like the Band-Maiko series… or instrumentals like From Now On, Don’t Be Long, Onset, Without Holding Back and Going Nuts… or their many acoustic versions like Catharsis and Sayonakidori... and last but not least, their Anime hits like Sense, Glory and Unleash (from their own Anime MV (series?)): ua-cam.com/video/7LB_EPS48HE/v-deo.html)

Band-Maid Members:
Saiki Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “Ice Queen" - Lead vocals, arrangements and melodies.
A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA!
Maidiacs (Maid-e-acts) - Band-Maid’s crazed yet supportive, knowledgeable and loyal Super Fans.

🎉 Thanks for your honest reaction. “Band-Maid doing Band-Maid Things”
Complex and creative band that appeals to both casual listeners and musicians alike.
A punk/pop/hard rock masterpiece
These two are both in my top ten songs from Band-Maid. I’m a 56 year old bassist/guitarist/vocalist with no time for much of what passes for music these days. However, these 5 artists from Japan command my attention and deserve far more critical acclaim than they get
Thank you for watching, your insight and suggesting these songs. I'm happy to have an experienced music maker and listener with us 🙌❤️
Whether overvrated or underrated, they are subjective to the person claiming them.
Therefore, it is pointless to argue with each other.
You either like it or you don't, that's all.
You're totally right, even tho people say these were some of their most normal songs, I'm willing to know more!
Thanks for your insight about the band, I'm all in for variety, maybe in the future I can have a better and more complete perspective!
Thank you l, I'll remember!
Add "Turn Me On" (2018) to the "Official Lives" list.
Nice to know we agree 🙃
5:22
Maids have been part of Japanese pop culture for decades.
These two songs are some of Band Maid's earliest. They have gotten so much better over the years.
No Thrill...no Band-Maid. It's that simple...check out their back-story.
'Thrill' is bloody great...and they literally exist and tour the West because of it.
Oh right, off course the maid themed cafes and stuff are very popular in Japan, everything makes sense now!
@rogerchance9074 😂 great minds...
I think I forgot about the outfits after about a half a dozen songs. Now I wouldn't want them any other way.
Well apart from Miku and Kanami the rest don't even look like Maids anymore anyway. And their music has evolved so much, and Miku has a big attitude 😂 and Kanami turns into Godzilla on stage. Only Miku's magic spell time reminds me that they are Maids.
'From Now On' or 'Manners & Blackhole'....
Band Maid is in my top tier of live
acts I have seen.
Just one small correction, Choose Me they did write themselves, it was right at the point where they switched to writing all their own music and the whole single was written by them.
Noted!
Then it seems for now, I like the songs they write better.
Once you get over the concept and look you get the music which keeps you coming back
I never cared about it that much (only shared a take) but I'm looking forward to keep coming back for the music
I'm so happy you listened and enjoyes the band for what it is, with no misconceptions!

Now for what I term the Band-Maid Info-Dump;
Band Maid was started in 2013 by Miku Kobato.
(Saiki also had NEVER met Miku until then as well)
So the Ladies, went and did the performance and Saiki really, REALLY liked the crowds reaction and the music they were performing.
Then in 2015 they released "New Beginning"
On New Beginning was the song that changed Band Maid's entire existence. "Thrill"...
The band was getting ready to release their first music video and the choice was between "Love, Passion, Matador" and "Thrill" and the ladies chose Thrill. (Little known fact, Miku helped with the lyrics on Thrill but did not get credited)
This became the seminal moment of Band Maid.
Thank you for your takes and suggestions, it's my pleasure to keep exploring japanese music with you guys❤️🔥
Let's describe these songs. The Dragon Cries , Manners , Bubble , Rinne , No god , Black hole , Sense , Unleash , From now on , Gion cho , After Life , I'll , Different .

Band-Maid serves very good music covering all spectre of hard-rock (from ballad to metal).
lol a highschool driving instructor who has the ego to critique a Formula 1 Champion driver's skill, always cracks me up.
More japan style?
Try "No God" or their commissioned songs to animes and games:
Glory
Sense
Hibana
Thanks!
Another thing I'd like to infrom you. You've watched "Bocchi the Rock", right? Do you know why did they run the maid cafe in the school festival and wear the maid outfit in EP 11? It is a tribute from the author to Band Maid.
They have 130 songs, that's ✌️
I hope he gets it once he is exposed to more. If not some people prefer bologna to sirloin.
In the interest of avoiding intellectual prejudice, we will not read any interviews with the band
members, analyses from other researchers and biographers, or any form of references dealing with the band's conceptualization, perceptions, artistic goals, technical background, or their thoughts on politics, moral viewpoints, human interactions, needs for societal change, et cetera.
Awesome.🙇♂️
Tony Griffin deleted his comment when ai was replying him 😔
But as I told him: Yup, there's nothing more annoying and funnier than a person who thinks he/she knows it all, it's pretty ignorant. Many people here said that I listened to their most: "simple or mediocre" songs, and they're Band-maid fans, you seem like a nice guy, don't let a simple opinion (where I was always respectful to the girls and their work) to upset you, you seem like a nice guy ❤️
I'm open to keep listening and learning about this band 🙂
That Christmas concert was magic. A musical highpoint in my life. A bright light in a very dark Christmas during the plague.
👍👍👍👍👍 for Band Maid
Yo bro, what's the name of the outro song? I know I heard that before, but can't remember where it's from

You have no idea. A lot of people just skip over them because of the maid outfits. Listen to one song and you stop caring about the outfits and almost forget their wearing them because the musicians are so damn good. Thanks to reactors, they have an even bigger following than they already had, which, from what I can tell was already huge.
Blackhole, From now on (instrumental). are more technical
Different and Sense are two songs Band-Maid have recorded for anime themes
as others have already commented their Live performances are where they shine.
I think you described the fact that you reacted to songs that are 8-10 years old. You should listen to their newer songs for a different sound.
Keep on with Maid Rock...any way you like :-)
Listen to them live!
Who sent you po?
Ok. Now listen to their newer material to seehow far they've progressed.
You’ve barely touched the surface of their catalog. When they play live it’s a completely different experience. They live to be on stage.
You're so right about it

Whomever is suggesting songs to you is picking the most simplistic stuff in their rather large catalog. 2 of the 3 songs you have listened to were not even written by them.
Please try "Different" or anything off of their "Unseen World" album.
Different:

They were kind of simplistic 🙈
Thank you for showing me the better songs, actually written by them.
You listened to 3 songs: One of their worst (they have ~3), a very good one, and their first ever. I don't see how you could come to any conclusion after that.
You still have to listen to 127 songs...
Real Existence is not their worst.
p.s Im totally sick of people being introduced to BM with thrill or choose me lol.. If i was introducing someone to BM those 2 songs would NEVER appear even in the first 50!
How about Domination live, or warning or play MV, or - well, almost anything else lol.
Wonderland - would be a good try
Hello! Good to see you! Nice vid
❤️🔥
This girls and other Japanese girls Bands played music instruments better than you dude......
Don't take it personal ❤️
I never disrespected them or said they can't play. I see you're upset for not praising (even tho I pay respects and did praise their herd work) your favorite band.
If they play better or worse is irrelevant, no one is judging that, but this kind of comments just show what's in your heart and brain, you're better than this ❤️
@@Jhulian_R check also LOVEBITES, NEMOPHILA, HANABIE, ASTERISM, MAXIMUM THE HORMON, TRIDENT-JAPAN, JUNNA THE DRUMMER....
Next band/song: *SOKONINARU* - _Tenohira De Odoru_
The joke is on you , miku didn't even play the guitar
Bro next react deviloof bro❤
You deserve a 👎 just for the click bite "!?" in the thumbnail.
Because of the lame reaction, you deserve another 👎, but it's not possible.😉
You're welcome, actually thank you for doing well thought comments like this one, and question your own believes, like few people do here!
Do you want to check out some all-female Japanese Metal, try Lovebites "Judgment Day" or if anime is your thing try "Winds of Transylvania " Vlad Love version.
Thanks!
Move on.
Those were my thoughts on this first listen, if you or I don't ever like them that much it's ok, people do want you to be obligated to share their tastes, otherwise will fight 🤣
This world is crazy.
Be well
Based on these songs, you're perhaps right. I don't think you are going to check out their recent songs either because you probably don't want to.
@@MusicMike747 Thank you sir!
@@zolitoth2458 I mean this band is nothing out of the ordinary, just because they are girls wearing maid outfits, I'm not gonna lie and say they are the ultimate paragon of musical innovation
So, did this hater actually wake up? The jury is still out...as his snobbery is obnoxious.
