  • An introduction to the Kenwood SM-220 Station Monitor. A viewer asked for a video that goes more in depth with the SM-200, pertaining to hook up and control usage. The first in a series about envelop displays, trapezoid displays, how to set your microphone gain, and how to check your linearity.
For more in depth information about using the SM-220, or an oscilloscope, to display your AM or SSB envelope, and Trapezoid, see the following videos from W2AEW. If you aren't watching his videos already, you really should be subscribed.

I've got one of these but the display appears to be dead ? Should I get a line with no input?

yes you should. The horizontal sweep will make a difference too so turn it on and play with the sweep control, intensity, focus and gain controls to try to get any display. After that, if nothing, the CRT tube (display) may be dead OR it could have a power supply issue. GDLK!

I was given an old Kenwood TS-830S. I found a good deal on a SM-220 but after tearing it down I found out it is a BS-5 version. Do you know if the TS-830s (BS-5) are compatible?
