Just as a quick heads up/FYI for folks - The Fly6 Gen 3 reviewed here (in 2016) is not at all the 2021 Fly6 Gen 3 that they decided to inexplicably name the same thing, despite being vastly different hardware/software. Further, the latest Gen 3 model is actually more like their 5th Generation unit, and not at all the 3rd gen one I reviewed back in Fly 6. This new 2021 model lacks ANT+ to your bike computer, lacks WiFi to your phone (only has Bluetooth settings control, but you can't preview clips), and countless other features. It's mostly worse in every way.
Just saw that the "Fly 6 Generation 3" is being marked down from 229 to 159. Would you recommend it at that price, or should I look elsewhere for another product?
With a go pro you can just switch batteries after 1.5 hours of riding and you'll get the license plate number if someone hits you. Im still keeping my rear unit but I'm also using go pro fro the front. If you can't get a license plate number your screwed, video or no video.
@@lucianoserafino5872 I am using both. The GoPro isn't going to last the ride, and the hassle of changing batteries is a huge turnoff when I prefer to focus on my ride than worry about when to switch batteries. One also does not have to worry about storage space on the Cyclic...it just overwrites older videos like a CCTV. And it has the ability to lock videos segments automatically the moment it detects a fall, so no need to worry about those segments being overwritten. I agree that number plates can be clearer. But all things considered, I chose the Cyclic over the Gopro. No pt having a camera which can read plates, but cant last the ride. :D
@@huaiwei ya lets hope the newer models can catch the license plates that would be amazing. Either way I still think its the best option we have for a rear camera/bike light. Thankfully my rides normally range 2 hours lol so im safe with a go pro on the front of my bike and just a cheap bell light for my front light.
Hey. Thanks for the Gen3 update. Any view of waterproofing DCR? Scotland commuting brings with it hours and hours of direct spray at rear lights .... any issues you’ve heard of?
At 4:30, the led just shuts off. Does it go in power-saving mode when not moving for a while or something? More importantly, does it switch back on when you move again? Thanks for the interesting review and demo. ;)
Hello, I have the generation 3 camera, but I can't update the month, that is, in the videos, it is always the same month. Can you help? Thank you very much
Came here from the review of the RCT715. That camera had no stabilization, there it is mentioned that this one does, but from the looks of this video, not very good stabilization. Also, it says in the video here that it is 720p, but other reviews said it has 1080p. Which is correct? From the looks of this and the Garmin, I would be better off just getting another one of my Sony Action Cams and attaching it to the seat post. I think someone did say that at least the Garmin can be used while charging, though.
This video is 6 years old. Their newer versions have different features (some better, some worse). Most notably however; while they call their most recent unit the 3rd gen, that’s very much not true (as easily shown here from 6 years ago). Their latest unit is technically their 5th gen one. Sigh…
Thanks for making this video. The resolution on the camera is very nice. Have a few questions: If you wanted to look back on something that occurred during a 6-hour ride that was not a major incident when you got home, is there a button to preserve it like on my car-camera? If not, would it get overwritten on the card by the end of 6 hours? Thank you.
Annoyingly, they decided to re-release an entirely new Gen3 in Summer 2021 (about a year ago), which is really actually a Gen 5 at this point. It's kinda insane. And this Gen 3 is nothing like that Gen 3. Super stupid.
The fly 6 seems to be getting better reviews that the Fly 12 from what I hear the fly 12 still seems to have a lot of teething problems from what I have heard from owners
Just bought one. Very poor video quality, Licence plates are unreadable. Great that it lasts the whole ride. So i wear my go pro on my head to capture license plates in case of an accident.
@Josh Rogan sorry to hear that. Looks like you got a dud. Mines still kicking and recording well after 3 years im still using it. Light is still super bright and still lasts my whole ride. Still only disadvantage is not the greatest video quality and 0 video stabilization. But it does the job and im still happy with it for now.
Biking through heavy traffic like that makes me so nervous! I was actually concerned for you while watching. Probably because I just started in clipless. I like the idea of the FLY16. Maybe add a Gopro on the front and you have all your angles covered.
Pretty interesting light/gadget. Pity the image quality is so poor, specially at night. I´m not doing a comparative with your 4k dslr but with my 249 € GoPro sessions (2015, 1080p). Thanks for the rev. I´ll follow this light-cam. If the image quality raises it could be really interesting.
Don’t buy them people, complete waste of money, I spent over $200 for one and the camera never worked and cylic refuse to now even answer emails , go buy a different brand , you will be better off , complete waste of money .
I made the mistake of buying it without reading the multiple warning comments of verified buyers. One thing I see right away is that the only form of contact is email. I haven't opened it at the time of this writing, and would therefore normally be able to return any unopened product,. But their site makes it clear that returns are only allowed if the item is defective and it'll be replaced upon their discretion. Those pesky details. I'm going to open it though because people also say that after sending it back, they didn't get their money nor any response. My bad for not researching it.
Yep, disappointed how poor the image is - can't read some of the car licence plates which I suspect is important in trying to find the car that knocked you over.
Gillenz Fluff I’m still in the hunt for looking for a camera that has good night recording quality. I need one to have full night mode because I often times have to take the trail back to my house after work.
Yeah, sound came out horrible on this one. I fail to understand why some videos are fine, and others are crap. I thought I reset the mics back to system defaults, but may try again and see if I can figure it out.
diodes flicker when powered by AC source or are dimmed by PWN, not when powered by a DC source. I dont know if Cyclic uses PWN, but i see no reason why they couldnt just use lower power (but i may be missing something).
Thanks for posting. That's terrible battery life. I am thinking of buying a cheap action camera with replaceable battery. At least they have image stabilization

Thanks, this comment is super helpful. A review of the 2021 fly6 would be really cool! Especially as compared to the Garmin Varia bike camera.
0:45 theres a kid falling behind him.
This has one huge advantage over the GoPro or pretty much any action camera when it comes to cycling, this one will actually last for your whole ride.

paradox963 All cameras are crap if you get killed though!
you can't charge it while riding..... useless

Hi Ray, great information as usual. You cannot see number plates at night!
Indeed, definitely pretty tough at night. Really wish they had gone with an upgraded sensor there.
There's a problem with attaching if you have a larger saddle bag attached to your seat post too.
I can't make out the license plate numbers, even on the daytime video. Not sure how useful this'll be if I can't make out the license plates.

It does.

Yes you are allowed to use blinking in europe. Perfectly fine in sweden. Dont assume when you dont know
Maybe it differs from country to country. You are definitely not allowed to use blinking lights in Germany.
Interesting naming by Cycliq. The current Fly6 is Gen 3. Released 2021, I think.

IS THAT THE GEN 3
???
Someone loves the corporate-speak expression "go ahead and [verb]"
The fly 6 seems to be getting better reviews that the Fly 12 from what I hear the fly 12 still seems to have a lot of teething problems from what I have heard from owners
Were you riding in Iceland this past weekend? I thought I saw you..
Either your bar wrap jobs are really bad or you need to stop death-gripping the tops! Haha... Thanks for another great review!
My Fly 6 CE G2 looks different than all those in the beginning of the video. Those in the video looks chunky/bulky.
Was this recorded today in Paris?
Yup!
Just bought one. Very poor video quality, Licence plates are unreadable. Great that it lasts the whole ride. So i wear my go pro on my head to capture license plates in case of an accident.

No blinking in Europe? why tho?
Are you clipped in to your peddles when you ride through traffic or do you use flat ones and regular shoes?
Standard cycling shoes clipped in, Look-cleats.
Biking through heavy traffic like that makes me so nervous! I was actually concerned for you while watching. Probably because I just started in clipless. I like the idea of the FLY16. Maybe add a Gopro on the front and you have all your angles covered.
But it can't be used as a rearview. So you have a rearview but you can't use it live
That's interesting, I'm watching this video before it was recorded (at least according to my clock and the video's time stamp).
+Kyle Polansky C'est magique!

that is weird. the Cycliq website is promoting FLY6 Genenration 3. shipping time June 2021.
They decided to launch yet another gen 3 product. Which, is like a Gen 5 product.
@@Dcrainmaker i also had a look at the specs. on that page it says Fly6 CE GEN3. aussies....
wow and sound pick up😄 This would be a good partner with hero pro
at 7:21 you can't even see the number plate at night .....
the statement that in Europe you cant use blinking mode is bs.. in some country's you can't, in some you can. in my country you can use it..
So U wish to cycle between moving vehicle, then U may wish to undertake moving vehicles. Not in my Location

I don't understand why they put a microphone in the camera when it's useless
Because if there’s verbal altercations, that’s caught on camera. Countless times that’s been used.
also looks like camera quality still crap.
Yep, disappointed how poor the image is - can't read some of the car licence plates which I suspect is important in trying to find the car that knocked you over.
J L Looks bloody useless at night!
Gillenz Fluff I’m still in the hunt for looking for a camera that has good night recording quality. I need one to have full night mode because I often times have to take the trail back to my house after work.
Not worth that price, perhaps if they use a better camera and charge a little more along with stabilisation.
Again dude, you need a better mic
Yeah, sound came out horrible on this one. I fail to understand why some videos are fine, and others are crap. I thought I reset the mics back to system defaults, but may try again and see if I can figure it out.
all LEDs blink - they are diodes - I thought all european countries had done away with that rule for that very reason
diodes flicker when powered by AC source or are dimmed by PWN, not when powered by a DC source. I dont know if Cyclic uses PWN, but i see no reason why they couldnt just use lower power (but i may be missing something).
my gen2 battery died in 1.5 years...pos
Thanks for posting. That's terrible battery life. I am thinking of buying a cheap action camera with replaceable battery. At least they have image stabilization
I prefer the garmin varia, saves my life daily
I have Varia but they do not replace each other, but rather complement (except for light) - i want to see the radar but also record.
such bad picture quality : /
Would you like some bike with your light lol
It looks ridonkulas 🙄
remind me to not move to europe. No flashing light allowed and right hand drive 😂🤢
Sound is still crap lol
What garbage, this light, camera, is crap day and night.
dont need lights in daytime
Wrap your bars correctly
