I had a red Grifter in the 70s. I mind wearing out the front mudguard plastic bit by folding it into the tyre for motorbike noise. I also mind the slip gear if peddling hard !
Some great restoration work here Joe.

I was just thinking exactly that. Those flaps must be hens teeth rare! I had a Grifter XL which had metal mudguards, I was always jealous of my mate who had 2 ‘classic’ grifters.

I had a Raleigh Grifter for my main Christmas present, I was 9, so must have been 1981 Colour Red..
    Hours of fun back then.
I really appreciated it, Cleaned it weekly, my grandad use to get me 4 sachets of Turtlewax car shampoo and tin turtle wax chrome polish.. So it was so shiny 🚴‍♀️🌟
I remember the roads being re-tarmac and I got tar on the under side of the frame, I could not get it off, i told grandad, he gave me a little glass bottle with Bright green liquid in it, it got it off, it was Liquid swarfega..
    Fond memories of my childhood.🥰

Hi Vicky, sounds like you had lots of fun on your Grifter back then. That's one of the reasons we do these videos, so people can remember how good bikes are and what they have meant to us over our lifetime. There are very few things in life that can come close to tell a story of your childhood better than a bike, your story shows that perfectly. Thanks for telling us your memory and I hope you continue to watch our videos, cheers Joe.

I had a chopper in purple and my young friend had a green bomber bike like a mini grifter .. kid turned up with a blue grifter and our jaws dropped as the precursor to the mountain bike mixed in with a BMX and he did the old mudguard motorbike trick, too we used to take them to the local Woods and do ramps and sorts of stuff until we needed a new set of bikes. Then everybody bought raleigh burners with mag wheels that was like something from out of space. Great days having a bicycle was first coming of age Before you could get a driving license we used to literally get all around London on those things pretty much .All the kids in my school had to do a cycling proficiency test didn’t matter how young you were once you completed that you got a badge could go where you want pretty much unhindered by adults.. 1970s madness

Hi, thank you for the feedback - we sure will take this on board! Thank you for the concern with the tools we use. However, the Knipex wrench we use is an amazing piece of kit and very versatile. It increases the torque and grip as you use it, and we find is the best fit for the original Raleigh nut sizes (which weren't metric). If you'd like to look into it more we have a link below:
      www.knipex.com/products/pipe-wrenches-and-water-pump-pliers/pliers-wrench-xl-pliers-and-a-wrench-in-a-single-tool/pliers-wrench-xl-pliers-and-wrench-single-tool/8603400
