I remember when a $25 traffic ticket cost exactly $25. Now a $175 ticket can cost upwards of $600 in some jurisdictions. This addition of all of these costs is ridiculous. Make the fine the fine and be done with it.

When I was 21 I got a OWI and actually went through the same court system where this Judge is on the bench at. The judge I had cut me a huge break on a plea deal because I did have a job and I paid all my court costs same day along with my attorney I had. I think the judge cut me such a huge break because I wasn’t going through life as a complete bum and I was honest throughout the whole process. It was the most expensive lesson of my life and I’ve never done anything like it again. This was 15 years ago and I always appreciated what the judge did for me. Honesty and integrity goes a long way and that’s what judges like Judge Simpson here like to see. They see so much stupidity everyday the ones that come through like this guy here is what they like to see. I’ve met Judge Simpson before at events and he’s a good guy and the type of person you want sitting on the bench where you live. I’m glad he is where I’m at.

After the third time my boss brought his son a car and he wrecked it. He bought him the biggest piece of crap I have ever seen. He drove it for a couple of years. Guess who stopped wrecking his car.
Man, that story had all sorts of twists and turns before it turned out the guy driving never actually had a license. Turned out they suspended his license for something when he didn't even have a license, and when he paid his fines and got his license unsuspended, he still didn't actually have a drivers license, lol

I have to say that when all my stuff went down the absolute hardest part is realizing my I let everyone down including my wife and parents. That’s all I had in the beginning of the mess I created. My dad was and still is battling cancer and had to retire but he still bailed me out and helped me get on my feet. I don’t deserve parents like that. It still hurts to think about what I’ve done to them. My first Christmas after I was released from probation; I had a painting done of my son, nephew, and nieces. I got the biggest canvas they had available and spent a pretty penny on it too. It’s the only time I’ve seen my dad cry on Christmas over a gift. It means the world to mom and dad but I’ll always and forever be in debt to them. Love you mom and dad.
I accumulated $350 in parking tickets as a college freshman. Christmas break I had to work at a gas station full time at $6 an hour till I made the money. Lesson learned. Thank you mom and dad.

When I got arrested at the age of 17 my parents made me pay every damn dollar.. even tho they had it. I’m 32 now and so thankful for everything they taught me I have a house and couple new cars. Thank you mom and pops

I just wanna say as someone in probation I finally got mine paid off and not only did it teach me a lesson and I went in my own to rehab and been greatfully sober ever since (2 years!) I feel so proud that I just paid it all off and it was more than I e probation unfortunately but the pride I got from completing it without any sanctions is Incredible!!! So to parents in this situation let them do it on there own, they'll learn from it and be proud of themselves for doing it when it's over. And trust me theyll never wanna have to do it again!!!
That’s the best way to handle a mistake. Own it, accept the punishment and repay (including apologies), understand you’re a better person now than you were and hold your head up high. Congratulations. Stay positive. Good things will continue for you.

I got given 40 hrs of community service at 14 for leaving to get lunch across the street and COMING BACK I got in trouble for ditching but I RETURNED Edit I faked the hours though I did 5 hours actual service to get some on paper then made a fake email and sent an email to the officers saying I'd done the other 35
What If they might risk turning him into a functional member of society that would never take a step into trouble and illegal issues for good, so instead they make him to pay the “one time quick pay no community hours for freedom” Planting the seeds to the mind of the kid (if you have this amount $ you can get even outta jail) which might either motivate him to Make more Money but end up committing more Felonies or misdemeanors due to the constant Anxiety trip that would follow him in his adult life Or Just turning more Careless upon reaching the same conclusion (money = no jail) and withdrawing more of his parents money. To the eyes of the court he is good cow to milk it would serve them no good to put him to community service or jail.
lol you can pay your way out of that too. I just donated a couple grand to the local food bank and boom 150hrs community service served in 30 seconds. Also paid the lawyers a pretty good amount to get deferred probation even though I should’ve spent a year in jail for possession of a controlled substance. Money changes everything
Most good parents that love their kids and have the money would have payed that with no problem. No parent wants to see their kids in debt to the court system for a mistake, (which we have no idea what it was)

Parents who love their kids would let their kids handle the situation themselves, because that's how they get maturity and learn not to do whatever it is they did wrong again. Bailing them out encourages bad behavior and prevents them from growing up. I say this as parent of a young adult.
all those recovery costs are malarkey. We (hime and his parents to be included) all pay taxes, that fund those systems. When the state loses do they pay the defendant who was found not guilty
They make it so hard to get compensation for those who have charges dropped and were unlawfully arrested. When there is a miscarriage of justice, the courts make it so hard to give back to those they've taken from but have no issue enforcing collections.

I couldn't afford to get in trouble as well since I was independent and had no family at that age but got falsely arrested for assault and charged sadly. Doesn't matter if you're innocent, it matters if the police and the courts think you're guilty and nobody can protect themselves from law enforcement that will do anything to arrest you. I lost my job, my money. Even lost the roof over my head and became homeless for a bit aged 21 and did everything I could to try get back on my feet. This kid better understand that he's a privileged one, mom and dad bailing him out of court fines is absolutely ridiculous. He should be liable to pay this all on his own. What a fool. Definitely a college kid as well.

I don't have mommy and daddy to take care of me because they both fucked up when I was a kid, I ended up in foster care aged 12. Was finally out of the system by 18 and was forced to find my own place. I did what I could and I spent a lot of time homeless after being placed somewhere that no longer rented to me and ended the tenancy, all while working jobs full time to pay through it all and barely having anything left. You act like these 20 year old grown ass adults should be privileged and stay at their parents house forever, many of us simply do not have a choice. Pay high rent or end up on the streets homeless and risk losing our lives. I was 20 years old 8 years ago btw.

Yep ! Wanted to move out early at 20 without savings and I messed up doing so thankfully my parents bailed me out. Now at 22 I’m still paying them back even tho it is very slow I’m almost there and I couldn’t be happier

I have to say that when all my stuff went down the absolute hardest part is realizing my I let everyone down including my wife and parents. That’s all I had in the beginning of the mess I created. My dad was and still is battling cancer and had to retire but he still bailed me out and helped me get on my feet. I don’t deserve parents like that. It still hurts to think about what I’ve done to them. My first Christmas after I was released from probation; I had a painting done of my son, nephew, and nieces. I got the biggest canvas they had available and spent a pretty penny on it too. It’s the only time I’ve seen my dad cry on Christmas over a gift. It means the world to mom and dad but I’ll always and forever be in debt to them. Love you mom and dad.

I just wanna say as someone in probation I finally got mine paid off and not only did it teach me a lesson and I went in my own to rehab and been greatfully sober ever since (2 years!) I feel so proud that I just paid it all off and it was more than I e probation unfortunately but the pride I got from completing it without any sanctions is Incredible!!! So to parents in this situation let them do it on there own, they'll learn from it and be proud of themselves for doing it when it's over. And trust me theyll never wanna have to do it again!!!

I couldn't afford to get in trouble as well since I was independent and had no family at that age but got falsely arrested for assault and charged sadly. Doesn't matter if you're innocent, it matters if the police and the courts think you're guilty and nobody can protect themselves from law enforcement that will do anything to arrest you. I lost my job, my money. Even lost the roof over my head and became homeless for a bit aged 21 and did everything I could to try get back on my feet. This kid better understand that he's a privileged one, mom and dad bailing him out of court fines is absolutely ridiculous. He should be liable to pay this all on his own. What a fool. I don't have mommy and daddy to take care of me because they both fucked up when I was a kid, I ended up in foster care aged 12. Was finally out of the system by 18 and was forced to find my own place. I did what I could and I spent a lot of time homeless after being placed somewhere that no longer rented to me and ended the tenancy, all while working jobs full time to pay through it all and barely having anything left. You act like these 20 year old grown ass adults should be privileged and stay at their parents house forever, many of us simply do not have a choice. Pay high rent or end up on the streets homeless and risk losing our lives. I was 20 years old 8 years ago btw.

While I agree that many are not growing up and getting out on their own as fast as they used to, I hate to take rights away from other individuals. What I support, as far as an age of majority, is to make the age whatever the public decides to make it, whether it's 18, 21, or 35, but it should be the same for everything with one exception. If its 21, then you'd have to be that age to vote, to buy a firearm, to smoke, to drink, Etc., With the exception being And individual that has a military ID card or DD214.
