This video saved me. I am very challenged when it comes to plumbing, but this made it a breeze. Thank you Todd for explaining everything so thoroughly and well!
This is great. Thank you Todd. My Profitec Drive came with a hose having a really odd fitting, not the ball, but a flat fitting with a c-ring so it doesn’t seem to be the proper end to go into the extra fitting made for the ball.
Spoke to BWT, they don't seem to be able to help. Cannot find this product anywhere but on your website and on a few US sites. The UK BWT website does not list this item. This is what they said: "We do not stock these in the UK because it is very unusual to require these. The water from the cartridge can have a slight pressure drop because of the water going through the resin."@@Wholelattelovepage
Great, helpful video but would have been great had it offered an explanation as to what the two dials on top of the filter head to & how to adjust them.
Hi b, the dial on top is the bypass setting. Here's a video explaining how to set those and test your water if needed: ua-cam.com/video/1Zvrk9Zxx5A/v-deo.html
This is so helpful! Does the BWT Filtration System have any sort of shut off valve? Would be nice to be able to shut the water off completely for the espresso machine if needed. I ordered one of these filtration systems for my pre-ordered ECM Synchronika coming in later this month. Think it's a 1/4-inch water line behind my fridge, going to look and get a T-Splitter to run a water line from there to the BWT Filtration System.
Hi DM, Thanks for the comment and question. The BWT system does not have a built in shut off valve. When tapping into your household plumbing you could/should add a valve that shuts of water to the system. It's possible to cut off the plumbed water supply to the machine using the water source selector valve underneath the rear of the Synchronika. Set it to the internal reservoir position and outside line pressure is cut. Due to the location of the valve it may be difficult to access if machine is backed up against a wall.
Hi G, The pressure regulator is not required for filter operation. But, if you are plumbing the output direct to an espresso machine manufacturers generally specify a maximum pressure for the plumbed in connection. For example it's max of 2 bar (~30 PSI) for most Profitec and ECM machines.
@@Wholelattelovepage Thank you for your answer, I`m using Rancilio Silvia Pro X, so no direct plumbing, instead I`m just pouring the water from the filter to a large cup and then transfer to the machine reservoir. :)
@Gajbotron I was curious about this. Instead of running output line to the espresso machine are you just running output line up through the faucet of your sink? So, cold water line under sink goes through filter then back up through the faucet?
@@patrickyoung3650 cold water line under sink goes through filter - and out through short hose w/ valve - so I can fill my 1L cup there and refill the machine that way....
Hi kf, 20 gpg is extremely hard water but this filter is capable of dealing with that so long as there are not edge case water issues like high gypsum content. Standard water softening works in a similar fashion to this system but uses sodium to replace calcium ions instead of magnesium.
Hi kb, They are not required. Flowmeter will let you know when it's time to change the cartridge. Pressure gauge not required but assists in setting the pressure regulator which is required.

Pressure regulator is not required for filter operation. But if plumbing from filter to espresso machine be aware many manufacturers specify water pressure input of less than 2 bar/30PSI. That's much lower than typical household plumbing pressure of 4-6bar/60-90PSI.

Is it fine to let the pressure regulator to 0? I found that I have some trouble with my flow control since I plumbed my Synchronika, for the moment I have 2 bar line pressure.
Hi c, If you have an existing RO system you do not need more filtration/treatment to remove minerals. What you may need is remineralization of water if that (or a bypass) is not already part of your RO system. If water out of your RO system is zero TDS potential problems like overfilling of boilers which use conductivity probes to monitor boiler fill level can occur. Zero TDS RO water may cause corrosion of metals in espresso machines over time. BWT does have this remin cartridge available for use with RO systems. It uses the same type of flexhead and can be put in line at any point after RO treatment: www.wholelattelove.com/products/bwt-bestmin-premium-m-filter-cartridge
Does the pressure regulator need to be on the inlet side of the filter if I do not have a flow meter? Contractor’s plumber put it out the outlet side and not sure if it makes a difference.
Hi i have a best max premium water filter do I have to put a reverse osmosis device before the btw? And can u please tell me what is the TDS for this to perform
Hi kb, So long as the input water is safe for human consumption and does not have edge case issues like high gypsum or chloride content then an RO system is not needed. Filter can perform up to 35 degrees German hardness which is a better measure than TDS.
Hi GS, The part is not listed on our website but can be purchased by contacting our customer service staff here: support.wholelattelove.com/hc/en-us The SKU for the part is: WLL-BSPPFIT
Hi PS, Use the purge when installing a new filter or when no water has moved through the filter for an extended period of > a few days. Place a receptacle under the flush discharge tube. Open the flush valve on top of the flex head. Allow filter to flush until a continuous stream of clear water is discharged. A liter or two is sufficient. Also suggested to flush 4-5 liters of water after 2 days normal use break in period.
How do you adjust the pressure reducer? I have it set to 30 psi. When I'm not using the machine the reducer gauge is sitting at 40 psi and my Synchronika pressure is sitting at 3 bar. When I start pulling a shot the pressure drops to 30 psi and reads 10 bar on the machine. is that ok and normal? Thank you!
Hi s, That all sounds normal. Set the regulator pressure while the machine is drawing water to produce 30psi which is equal to 2 bar. You're already there. A small difference between reading on the reducer and your machine gauge is normal due to their location of measurement and slight gauge inaccuracy. 3 bar = 44psi. 10 bar on the machine gauge when extracting is within normal range. A lot of people like to see 9 bar. If desired you can adjust the rotary pump bypass to produce a pressure of 9 bar on that gauge with a backflush disc inserted and the pump running. Underneath the rear of the machine is an access hole to the pump bypass which is adjustable with a flat head screwdriver. Here's a video showing how to do that: ua-cam.com/video/SnwHWmX4aqw/v-deo.html Honestly I would not worry about adjusting that pressure. Difference between extracting at 9 or 10 bar is essentially undetectable. And, there is a little pressure loss between where that gauge measures right after the pump and in front of a 1 way valve and the pressure in the group head. But some users insist on the 9 bar. Hope that helps!

Hi B, Does your RO system produce zero TDS water? If so you need to remineralize before use in an espresso machine. Pure RO water over-extracts coffee and can cause corrosion in metal components like boilers and pipes. If your tap water is not crazy bad - like well water in some areas I'd just feed the BWT Bestmax Premium with tap water and route to your espresso machine.
@@Wholelattelovepage I have a similar issue. I have pretty hard nasty water. Or would it be better to tee in at the source and use a separate filter system for the espresso machine?

It's good to drink it or just good for coffee machine ? Do you have another solution . I mean something cheaper . To avoid descaleing ? Did you ship to Saudi Arabia . Or have dealership in my region ? Regards,
Hi r, Yes it should be possible. So long as your tap water is safe to drink and doesn't have edge case issue like high sulfates it gets your water into good range for espresso brewing. It exchanges some of the calcium in your tap water to magnesium leaving you with the minerals needed for good flavor without causing scale. Also has actgivated carbon filtration built in to remove chlorination and other chemicals.

Hi KC, Thanks for the question. I do not think it will work as the BWT filters do require some line pressure to operate properly. @@Wholelattelovepage Thanks What's interesting is that I opened that flushing valve on the filter head and water still flowed out to the outlet line (towards the machine) As well as the flushing tube. Hi AN, Wish I could but not familiar with that machine. If machine uses a pressure stat to activate heating elements it may have failed - but that's a shot in the dark.
Hi SD, The pressure regulator is fairly straightforward. Pull out the gray cap to allow for adjustment. Push back in to lock in the adjusted pressure. What pressure to set is determined by use and/or the recommendation of the manufacturer. For instance Porfitec and ECM espresso machines recommend ~2 bar/30psi. Crem espresso machines specify >2bar. Hope that helps!

@@Wholelattelovepage thanks! Turns out I have egg on my face: despite checking and rechecking that I had the pressure reducer set up correctly, it turns out I simply had it backward. Disassembled and ensured the flow direction was correct and all is good now!
So for anyone that makes this very dumb mistake, know that it will default to about 3bar of pressure and the adjustment knob will not have any effect. Cheers 🤦🏾♂️
@@optikalblitz Thanks for the update and sharing the info!
I need to install the filter system quite a long way from my synchronika - i.e., the outlet run from the filter needs to be ~20 feet long. Can I do that with the BWT system? If so, what is the best way to extend the outlet run that distance?
Hi Nik, You can do that. But will need some additional parts. For that length run plastic with quick connect fittings are probably the easiest.
@@Wholelattelovepage can you elaborate on what you would need to do longer run? I also want to run about 20 feet of water line but i don't know what type of line i need. please provide description and/or name of tubing and diameter you would recommend. thanks
Thanks for this video! For an espresso machine, which BWT filter system would you recommend for water that has already gone through water conditioning and carbon filter?
Hi Adam, You are welcome and thanks for the question. The BWT Bestmax Premium could work but would need more details on water quality coming out of your conditioning system. Depending on quality of water from your system it's possible no additional filtration is required.
Marc
Hello Will, will the fittings on a Rocket Cinquantotto be the same as this machine? This looks like a breeze and if I can get all the fittings from you that would be great
Hi Mayolo, Thanks for the question and apologies for a delayed response. I've been on vacation and offline for a week. Fittings should be the same. I'd talk directly to our CS/Tech Support dept to be sure you have everything required.

Hi
I have few questions
Can I use the BTW directly from the tab water to the machine . Or I have to add something first like RO system ?
After installing the BTW . It's good to drink it or just good for coffee machine ?
Do you have another solution . I mean something cheaper . To avoid descaleing ?
Did you ship to Saudi Arabia . Or have dealership in my region ?
Regards,
Can uou run more then one machine off this ? Will this bring city water into optimal range water for espresso, ph, minerals ect... Thanks
@@Wholelattelovepage thanks for answering, when is it necessary to run reverse osmosis system verse one of these filter setups? How you know ?
Very nice video. Thanks for sharing.
Hi B, You are welcome and thank your for taking a moment to leave a comment!
What is a minimal line water pressure to use this filter?
Hi DS, BWT lists minimum input pressure of 1.2 bar for proper filter operation.
@@Wholelattelovepage Thank you. Do you know how much pressure will drop post filtration? I thinking to hook up a profitec pro 800 but I think after the filtration the pressure will be too low.
@@dariuszskowronski77 Pressure does not drop much unless you add a pressure regulator on the output.
@@Wholelattelovepage ok, thank you. So would 1 bar be enough to plumb profitec pro 800?
Is it OK to install the BWT besthead FLEX in a horizontal position above the coffee machine? Thanks for the helpful video!
Hi k, You are welcome for the video! Yes you can install in horizontal position.
Marc
@@Wholelattelovepage That's great! Thanks for your help.
kmw1 my pleasure!
Can the aqua meter be installed in a vertical position via 90 degree elbow coming off the filter? The MFG instructions say the meter should be horizontal.
Thanks for the question. Yes, mounting orientation will not affect performance.
I want to install one to replace an existing water filtration system. Is there a way to have, like a split, so I can have it go to faucet on the sink as well as to the espresso machine?
Hi Scott, Thanks for the question. Yes, the output from the BWT filter can be split with a simple T fitting after the output. Many will route that to an auxiliary faucet at sink for drinking/cooking water and/or to a fridge input for water/ice maker.
Hey WLL! I have a quick question about plumbing in a machine from a water tank for my coffee trailer. Will I need to install a water pump before the BWT filter? May be a silly question... thanks.
Hi Noah, Yes you will need a pump.

Where do I get the fitting for the Synchronika hose to the BWT outlet fitting WLL-BSPPFIT ? Looked on your website and I can't find it
Hi Wayne, Sorry for delayed response. I was offline for the weekend. The part is not currently listed but is available for purchase if you call or email: www.wholelattelove.com/pages/contact-us
Marc
@@Wholelattelovepage thank you, I ordered one but didn't realize there was one in the bottom of the box.
Are those extra parts still available on your website? I can’t find them. I just bought the system because of watching this video. I couldn’t find those part. The part numbers listed in the description are;
WLL-BSPPFIT
ECM-P3020.1
Hi Nicholas, We do have the parts available but they are not listed on website. To avoid getting wrong parts we advise direct contact by phone, email, chat: www.wholelattelove.com/pages/contact-us

Hi there! I'm just about to buy a 1 group espresso machine (most probably a LM Gs3 or Linea Mini). I plan on doing events, markets, etc. therefore using a 4 gallon water jug as water source. Would there be any problem at all using BWT filter with that kind of setup? Thanks for your answer.
Hi KC, Thanks for the question. I do not think it will work as the BWT filters do require some line pressure to operate properly. If using a jug as water source htere are other BWT option like drop in pad filters which do the same thing. They do require 12 hour soak time to treat water: www.wholelattelove.com/products/bwt-bestsave-m-anti-scale-filter
Hi, I'm installing this filter now. Does the rubber venting hose drain water? Or is it only for venting air?
Hi Jim, Sorry not back to you sooner as you're doing it now. The little rubber hose can drain both. It's a purge valve. Believe BWT specs draining a liter or 2 of water from that hose when installing a new filter cartridge.
@@Wholelattelovepage Thank you for clarifying! I put a bucket under it while purging air from the filter.
I don't have the option to connect directly to my machine, as it's too far from my water source. can I install the Bestmax under the sink or in the garage and just fill up the reservoir, or a pitcher ?
Yes you can. Some users will run the filter output to an auxiliary faucet.
@@Wholelattelovepage that will be a great video to do on your side!! maybe not to a faucet because the need to do a hole in the counter as well but at least show an option for the output with a tube or something.... thank you
How long is the hose that comes with the profitec 700? If the hose is long enough, I can connect directly to the filter (I am using the Aquameter). However, does that adapter at time stamp 7:10 come with the filter package? (Which I ordered)
Hey K9, Thanks for the question. The adapter comes with plumbable machines we sell like the Pro 700. The hose that comes with the Pro 700 is 4'8" in length.
@@Wholelattelovepage also, how does the Easy Vent - Deaeration valve work?
@@TheK9Shepherd Hi, It's generally used to flush a new filter. Open the valve and allow water to flow. Here are flushing volumes in liters by filter size: S =1, V=3, M=5. Once flushed close valve and filter is ready to go. Hope that helps!
Marc
@@Wholelattelovepage Thanks What's interesting is that I opened that flushing valve on the filter head and water still flowed out to the outlet line (towards the machine) As well as the flushing tube. I had the line in a bucket (not hooked up to the machine yet) I would think that turning valve to flush a new filter, that would stop water going to the outlet line towards the machine. I can't see how I messed up the install, pretty easy based on your video.
I already have a water line connected from my sink to my fridge, how can I add a second line to the expresso machine? I will be buying the synchronika the near future and I need to know this . Thanks in advance
Hi Carlos, A simple "T" fitting of your existing line should do the trick!
I have a question. Magnesium doesn’t cause scaling in coffee machines? Thanks.
Hi Vince, When BWT filters are used as directed they prevent scaling in coffee machines.
Don’t you just love the roundabout answer?
Nice video... I have 2 questions, 1 what is the best tds for the machine. 2 do you sell to Kuwait.
Hi bs, Thanks for the comment and question! You can find the Specialty Coffee Association recommended water parameters here: sca.coffee/research/coffee-standards
BWT has patented tech that provides that standard but replaces some of the calcium with magnesium to get to the proper hardness without causing scaling in the machine. Unfortunately we do not ship to Kuwait at this time :(
Marc
Very informative video. Can I make two Outputs, Espresso machine and other device such as ice maker?
Would it be okay to put the flow meter on the other side of the filter?
Yes
Is this setup appropriate for commercial use or just prosumer?
Hi RP, This setup can be installed in commercial setting. They have filters which attach to the same flex head with much higher capacities.
is the straight fitting for the aquameter included in the system?
Hi e, The Auqameter comes with hardware as shown in this listing: www.wholelattelove.com/products/bwt-3-8-aquameter-with-lcd-display If you need more detail I would discuss specific with our customer service pros. Contact them here: www.wholelattelove.com/pages/contact-us
Do you install it before or after a salt water softener?
Municipal water supply. Tds of 150
Hi LMTN, If your municipal water is at 150 TDS that's relatively soft. Really no need for a water softener. I would connect the BWT filter directly to your municipal water supply. Our TDS is in the 140-150 range and we connect direct. That TDS is well within the operating range of the BWT Bestmax Premium filter.
easy to do!
when the filter reaches the end of its filtering capability, would water still go through it being unfiltered, or will the water be restricted?
Hey eosme, Thanks for the question. At end of filter capacity water continues to flow through the filter.
Marc
Whole Latte Love thank you. Then in that case makes sense to get the BWT aquameter. So how to know what value to set in aqua meter? Is there a video on that? Can you use a aquarium kit like API GH/KH to test for general hardness?
I have a Kinetico Whole House Water Softener, which BWT cartridge should I be using with this system?
Hi u, Thanks for the question. Unfortunately I can't say without having a water test. It's possible you do not need additional filtration.
Would the BWT filter work with a flojet for a portable solution?
Hi Jackson, Thanks for the question. Yes you can use this BWT system with water supplied by flojet. I've done that setup for a Dalla Corte Mina.
Marc
Do you have "ECM-P3020.1" listed on your website for sale? I can't seem to find it. Thanks.

I have a problem with an overheating QM Rubino - could you give me some advice?
Hi AN, Wish I could but not familiar with that machine. If machine uses a pressure stat to activate heating elements it may have failed - but that's a shot in the dark.
What should the pressure gauge be set at?
Hey gary, We recommend setting to 2 bar/30 psi for normal use.
I have sensors ozone new
How i cane make calibration
Hi BI, Not sure what you're asking?
Do you ship to Canada?
Hi Jay, Thanks for the question. We can but it tends to be rather expensive to do so :(
No information provided on how to use the pressure regulator and what to expect...
That Synchronika has stainless steel boilers and you are using a Bestmax cartridge. Is that okay or should a Bestprotect cartrige be used for SS?
I am using the Bestmax with Synchronika. Highly recommended.
Hi CB, Thanks for the question. No problem using the Bestmax with SS boilers.
My pressure gauge came out of the box reading1.5 bar/20 PSI
Hi d, Hopefully you've contacted customer service if you purchased from us or installed the gauge and it showed a proper reading.
I just bought it
Hey michael, Good choice - it will protect your machine!
