For those who use the newer version and the setup not working the same way here is some tip: The rope tag radius value needs to be 1 centimeter as mentioned in the video, but after this in the project setting you need to turn on the draw option to enable and tick also the particles and collision radius. After this, you just move the timeline one frame over and you will see the circles. Now you need to reduced the helix subdivision number, until this 1 centimeters red circles not overlap each others. And also check the cubes cloth tags "target Length" option. If these circles overlapping the others, lower the value also.
@@alex-leinauer same here. I found some solution for these, but some other still is a mystery for me :D I know why they doing weird things, but I do not know how I can solved it. Some strange movements are caused by the unstoppable force paradox. It is means that your setup contain more thing, which contradict each other, but the system wants to calculate. So if you set the stretchiness and the bendiness higher and after just increase the itirations number as well in the project/simulation setting, it will solve some problems :))
For anyone coming to this with the new version of C4D (24.4.0), the rope dynamics don't work in the same way as this tutorial. You're not going nuts, you haven't missed anything.
I did this tuorial when it came out and worked perfectly, but now in the newer version of C4D I feel like the rope simulations act differently. Do you know why that is? They start animating without me even doing anything when hitting play. Any solution for this?
Same, the rope physics go absolutely bonkers. I'm still trying to figure it out on my end but it looks like decreasing the substeps significantly is helping a bit as well as decreasing the amount of subdivisions on the Helix
Is there a refresh to this video for rope dynamics in general? I've tried other peoples suggestions and the other objects in my scene are jittering around and flickering on and off
How are your priorities set up, I went through this tutorial and my rope is lagging behind my cube/connector movements. I tried messing with priorities but nothing seems to work.
Random question. When exporting simulation splines from cinema to illustrator. Why do they open in illustrator unaffected by the simulation? Awesome tutorial as usual!! Thanks all!
And just like that, I'm a PLUS member because of this tutorial. Awesome. QQ - How do I delay the simulation so that i can do a camera move in before the twists start?
Thanks for joining, David! Check out the "Mix Animation" panel in your rope simulation settings. There you can animate Pins or forces (I recommend Pins for your situation). Turn it up to keep the ropes from moving. Then animate to 0 to start the sim. Let me know i it works.
The tutorial is working on 2023 but in C4D 2024 the ropes are getting crazy the moment I hit play. The simulation parameters and the selection rope parameters are the same. Any idea? Thanks
I feel like having the sim settings change the properties of the way the sim behaves is confusing. That should be controlled by the tag, and the sim settings should only control the quality and calc time.
this is all great, but please please pleeeease if in the process you make something and you use your greyscalegorilla plugins, pleeeease show how to do the same thing without for people that dont have a subscription and access to all those features. this is really frustrating

I don´t know how to do that in c4d s26! I can't follow some of the key steps, for example I dont have the Mix Animation options... how can i do the same in c4d s26?
When I duplicate the cube and place it at the opposite end and rotate it 180 deg it doesn't have any effect on the ropes. The yellow connections are visible but when I play it back it sort of does something but not much - have the same signal rotation as in the tut. Have tried moving it closer and further on the X axis but not luck.
@johanvanheerden1: Did you activate the "Live Update" Button? Did you change the search radius a little bit? Might help to delete the connector and create a new one for cube (180°). Did the same tut, and mine works fine ... just want to help ...😀
In case others are having this issue(I did), just select the connector tab and updated the Search Radius settings, the will cause C4D to relook and connect to the proper side.

I love each time you talk about OCTANE :)
Stay tuned!
hi! ive followed every step (mix animation w pins),no gravity, etc... but when i hit play the ropes go crazy in all directions. What could it be?
Try taking helix subdivisions down (about 10), hopefully will work.
Or turn off intermediate points, seems to work fine like that too
@@Siknox thank you!!
@@Siknox That worked! Thank you!

Amazing info, !! Thanks Nick . Any help on how to control splines like , Anyma Visuals ? Thanks in advance !!
Love your style. So informative. Please keep them coming!!
Thank you! Will do!
It is awsome as usual. Thanks Nick and GSG
Thanks for watching!!!
Amazing video!! we need more Arnold tutorials 🫠
Nice! I always learn something new from you guys! All sorts of everyday life hacks like the Selection Tag in this video are the most valuable.
I use'em all the time!
Nice! the selection tag was like an achievement unlock!
I know, right!? How did I not know this?
Man that "Selection" object!!! thanks!!!!
You're welcome!

How have I been using Cinema 4D for 10 years and never known about the selection object?! That's amazing haha
Right?!?! Was thinking the same thing!!!

the best tutorial, thanks
Thanks!
Super Nick with super stuff!
Super Omar! Thanks!
appreciate this tutorial as always!

thank you, i was hoping for this

Hmm, For some reason I cant get the connector working. Is there a step i missed? Do I need to specify how to connect to what?
Try increase search radius in Connector; or maybe you put rope the tag on Sweep instead of the Helix?

The simulation has changed a bit since the recording of this tutorial. You may want to try turning some of the settings down to remove the craziness.
I found that reducing the helix subdivision did the trick. Made another selection for helix so I could change them all at once

Thanks so much. My Cloth Tag doesn't have the 'Mix Animation' tag! Any idea how I can do this ? I'm on Mac OSX M1 R26.
I think that feature was added in version 2023.
Nice work🎉
Thanks 🔥
love you nick
😘
How can I export this as FBX with animations? I am using C4D 2025.
at the beginning you should use segment instead of helix
I don't get the "Mix Animation" tab from the cloth tag. I'm using R26. Any ideas why?
That feature came out after R26. Version 2023 I think.

hi, up, why i don’t find shift+C" select"c4d 2023

Can you send me a source file? Please!!
Where is the Rope Tag in R25 ?
"Fastest way to get a straight line" just pickup a n-Side and set 2 sides..
Well look at that! Nice tip!
Holy shitballs thanks for that. The days of creating a rectangle and splitting a segment off are behind me
arrrrgggg using r25 no rope tag? ok used reaper 3.2😀
Unbelievable, C4D is not able to simply constraint anchor points to nulls, etc...
The connect ist stretchy.
Drop Zone for mac ?
Yes. Works for Mac and PC. You can install it through the Greyscalegorilla HUB.
There is no Mix animation in tag

no drop zone, how to do this, haha
