Used to watch Meades' programmes in the 1990s when young and thought them the height of sophistication. Now they just seem so mannered and devoid of any real content worth remembering - much like this. I suppose this waspish contrarianism schtick can shift some units still
Meades is better as a writer than a presenter. Coining well crafted aphorisms and novel juxtapositions from the anonymity of Raybans was the closest he got to it. Remove the specs and introduce spontaneity and he hides behind contrived dyspepsia or just shuts up shop. Cookery should be the perfect vehicle for his bile, I wonder if it sold many?
I didn't realise Mr Meades was a devotee of 1970's football specifically Leeds United 'Get your retaliation in first'
Good to hear Borowczyk and Franju getting a mention.
Absolutely. The contribution of both these directors to the culinary arts is much undervalued. 😂
love Meades great essayist
Stewart Lee has let himself go

Now that you are older and wiser, you can tell that JM's affectation is a glorious joke, I hope!
