@Arthur Tse I got the FR 245. The 645 has too many specs that I wouldn't need. Garmin Pay is not really used in Europe and not supported in my country. I need the watch for running, indoor rowing and gym stuff. I would have ended up not using all the supported sports widgets of 645, like snow sports, SUP, etc. The only biggie that made me hesitate to decide was the lactate threshold function of the 645. Awesome video. Do you have some video on all currently relevant Garmin watches? I am seeing 935 at slightly higher price compared to 245music. How does 935 compare to it? I am mostly looking for music, home FIIT workout, some running, but want the analytics like aerobic, body battery, sleep tracking etc. I am not looking for super advanced running stat, or water/ice sport. Just a overview comparison would be helpful. Thanks again.
@Terry Stimac It does have altitude gain, just not an independent sensor to measure it. It uses GPS data to estimate elevation, its reasonably accurate.
Which would you get for around the same price? I mostly do trail and SkyRunning so the altimeter in the 645 may be a nice bonus (would it?) but, on the other hand, the spO2 and body battery in the 245 may also be a nice plus (or maybe not?). I really don't want to have to upgrade to a 945 to get the best of both worlds...
If they are close to the same price the 645 may offer more in the long run. Body battery actually is a nice feature but for trail running the altimeter is nice to have.
hey there! stumbled upon a few of your videos as I'm looking for my first fitness/outdoor watch. I am super into hiking, skiing, camping & the like and am looking for a durable adventure watch that can track altitude. I was thinking the 645 could be a great option and am looking for watches with an altimeter, however would more or less be okay with seeing my current elevation using GPS. Do you have any recommendations? Garmin has so many SKU's I feel like I'm going in absolute circles trying to find the perfect model for me (doesn't even have to be a Garmin, but trying to not get a headache lol). In all honesty, the most I'll pay is $290. Trying to avoid that rugged look of the Instict, as I would like a watch that doesn't look so rough. I really like the look of the Forerunner series, especially the 245 but feel like I might damage the hell out of it on my adventures in the outdoors. Thanks so much!!!
I keep looking at garmin watches having sold my original fenix. Do you think there is much chance of the screen getting bigger in January? They are a lot smaller than the Apple Watch
Any chance you could do a video showing Notifications and smart watch features when a Garmin watch is used with an iPhone? Can't seem to find any video showing this. thanks
Very good video. thanks. Question about battery life. According to Garmin website battery life in GPS mode on the 645 is just 5 hours and the 245 is 6 hours. But you mention much longer times in GPS mode. Perhaps you could clarify?
Hey Des, could you do a detail review on Garmin's body battery feature? I want to see if it's worth upgrading to the New Fenix 6 which should have similar feature set to the 945. I have the 645 right now and BB with Heat acclimation sounds very interesting.

Hi, you say that FR 245 does not have the possibility to have the running power data but the 245 can be connected with RD pod or HRM-Rum which provides these power data. Are you sure?? thank you
Thanks for the great review. I have a 245 and luv it. One thing I noticed is when the music is playing and then when I push to start my run, the music gets dropped. Want to run and listen to music at the same time...is there something in the settings that I need to change?
This has to do with your headphones. A friend of mine had the same issue. Need to do a software update on the headphones, not the watch :-) Hope this helps
Thanks for the video. Does the 245 also have this option to map out a run? ie. if you are in a new city can you ask the watch to tell you where to go and guides you while running?
This is the only difference? Music? I wanna buy the normal one would I be able to upload to Strava? Will it auto sync my runs? And what about replyinf to texts? Thanks!
It seems for me that only want to use this for sports and hiking and music the 645 is in almost all features better than the 245? I am not interested in any smart watch or activity tracker features.
The 645 offers a bit more with it's altimeter for activities like hiking. Music wise the 645 has that slight edge with iHeartRadio on top of Spotify and Deezer. Other than the difference in Music, the smartwatch features are identical.
Would you have a recommendation for someone who does a lot of lactic running, sprinting and a weekly longer run, as well as gym 3 times a week (mostly Olympic lifting). I have the 235 at the moment and mainly use it to time lactic runs and track long running distance/pace. The 235’s heart rate sensor really does seem to struggle and is rarely accurate so I haven’t utilised that very much. And it does often count my reps distance to be slightly off when going fast on an athletics track. TIA
Track distances are tough for a lot of devices, the 645 may be the better bet for you with slightly better GPS accuracy. In regards to the HR sensor, like I was saying both will be similar, but for the best results I’d recommend an external chest heart rate sensor. I have a link to my favorite in the description.
DesFit thanks for that, what about the music capabilities, I have heard a lot of issues regarding earbuds cutting out with the 645, especially when on the left wrist. Is this still an issue, and is the 245 any better? Thanks again
Ho des I need help 😰 I’m struggling to choose between the 645 (possibly the slate grey one) and the Fenix 5 I’d use it primarily to trail run, occasionally mtb and more often hiking and outdoor stuff
Thanks for the great video!! In your experience, how accurate is the elevation data that Garmin calculates from GPS on the 245? Is it good for capturing hikes and trail running when compared to the 645?
The only watch that I have tested that gave somewhat reasonable HR results for rowing were the Apple Watch Series 3 and 4. However, overall, I’d say that rowing is one of the hardest activities for a wrist (or even arm HR strap) to track. I’d get a chest heart rate strap if you want reasonably usable heart rate. Garmin devices give some additional data points like number of strokes when you are done.
I don't get it. Both watches have heart rate sensors, but for every feature you mention you need external ones. What the heck. Is the included one that useless ?!
reagan mandinguiado a few months ago I was tied between these two and went with the Fenix. More premium materials, better water resistance, open water swim tracking (was important for me but turned out to work bad) and slightly better battery life. The 645 has music option (I don’t care about it), slightly larger screen and also weighs a bit less. Everything else is more or less the same.

Are you planning on doing any videos on any more suuntos? Trying to see if the spartan trainer hr, suunto 5 or the suunto 3 is for me and would love to see your in depth style of video on them. Keep up the great work, I certainly appreciate it!
I may try to get a Suunto 5 if I have the time. Not sure yet though.
@@DesFit Awesome, thanks for the reply! Would love to see it
Great review !! I'm just asking for information FR 245 music, with the latest update, is it true that it can read your heart rate while swimming? Thanks for the information
Good one ...thank you
Awesome video.
What to you think, witch is better for pro runners 645 or 245? For us the most important is GPS..
Regarding the elevation field on the 245. Will this only show altitude during an activity, or can I check my altitude if I’m laying on the couch?
I was so close to getting the 245 but without altitude gain it’s useless to me. 🤷🏼♀️
What did you go for? The 645 music is currently cheaper than the 245 non music so I'm in a real pickle!
@@misterwalker3598 I have the same idea.. Please respond??
@@stevenparedes2523 I went for the 645 and love it
@@misterwalker3598 why do you choose these model?
hey there! stumbled upon a few of your videos as I'm looking for my first fitness/outdoor watch.
If the Fenix 5 and the 245 were the same price today which would you choose?
Any chance you could do a video showing Notifications and smart watch features when a Garmin watch is used with an iPhone? Can't seem to find any video showing this. thanks
They are going to be basic one-way notifications that you can view and then just dismiss. It’s due to Apple’s lockdown on their ecosystem.
Hey 👋 want to get into swimming 🏊♀️, which fitness tracker is best to improve my swimming ?#DesFit
At 5:23, you talk about external sensors. Does the 245 play nicely with the Stryd?
thanks a lot!
Sure thing!
I was there any difference between Fenix 5 in Fenix 5+ besides the music
Very good video. thanks. Question about battery life. According to Garmin website battery life in GPS mode on the 645 is just 5 hours and the 245 is 6 hours. But you mention much longer times in GPS mode. Perhaps you could clarify?
With and without music. I was referring to without music. Hope that helps!
Hey Des, could you do a detail review on Garmin's body battery feature? I want to see if it's worth upgrading to the New Fenix 6 which should have similar feature set to the 945. I have the 645 right now and BB with Heat acclimation sounds very interesting.
I like the 245 more
why?
Is it possible to connect these watches to both an external heart rate sensor and your bluetooth headphones at the same time?
Does 245 have all day and sleep tracking with pulse ox, I think it's called respiratory? You know like the one on vivoactive 4 to track sleep apnea?
Hi, have you tried garmins virtual partner on the 245? could you please do a video when you show us how it works. I am at the momen using an app on my phone called Runtastic were i can race my previouse run. In this app i get feedback if i am a head of falling behind during my race. But because i wanna run without my phone i am going to buy forerunner 245 Music and hope that the garmin virtual partner works. Thanks alot
Hi crack, I'm in doubt whether to buy the garmin 735xt, 645 or 245 more than everything I need to do mountain biking, running and some trekking so I would like the issue of gps and measurements to be the most accurate which would you recommend me In your experience, if you had to choose between those 3 models, what would I tell you, which one would you choose? greeting from peru
I wondered . which watch did you buy ?
Can you review the amazfit gtr
Hello, do the black and slate gray versions differ only in the color of the strap, or are the cases also different colors?
Hi, you say that FR 245 does not have the possibility to have the running power data but the 245 can be connected with RD pod or HRM-Rum which provides these power data. Are you sure?? thank you
I don't like those aluminium bezel. I prefer the plastic one.
Every time I said 635 I meant to say 645
Are they both equally compatible with dwmap?
Thanks for the great review. I have a 245 and luv it. One thing I noticed is when the music is playing and then when I push to start my run, the music gets dropped. Want to run and listen to music at the same time...is there something in the settings that I need to change?
Any fix?
This has to do with your headphones. A friend of mine had the same issue. Need to do a software update on the headphones, not the watch :-) Hope this helps
Thanks for the video. Does the 245 also have this option to map out a run? ie. if you are in a new city can you ask the watch to tell you where to go and guides you while running?
Does 645 will show VO2 without chest strap? Also will chest strap work for estimations VO2 while indoor spinning? Thanks!
hi I can find the 645 in the UK for £80 cheaper then the 245 what would you
This is the only difference? Music?
I wanna buy the normal one would I be able to upload to Strava? Will it auto sync my runs? And what about replyinf to texts? Thanks!
For tracking strength training profile which one will you choose FORERUNNER 245 MUSIC OR FITBIT IONIC or Amazefit Stratos ?
GET THE 645 MUSIC IT WILL BE WORTH IT
Anyone have the 245 and has tattoos? Wondering if there are issues with the sensors. Looking to swap out my Polar watch for the 245.
im rocking the finix 3 hr is it worth switching to the 645?
Desfit, any issues with the 945? I just had to do a warranty exchange because it had screen burn-in from the stock watchface.
Haven’t had any issues actually. Just took a look at my unit for burn in and don’t see anything apparent. Hopefully Garmin took care of you.
Better to use a Stryd foot pod for accuracy.
Would you still nix à 645 in 2021?
Buy
Ho des I need help 😰 I’m struggling to choose between the 645 (possibly the slate grey one) and the Fenix 5
I’d use it primarily to trail run, occasionally mtb and more often hiking and outdoor stuff
If hiking go for the 5, the maps and ability to upload gpx map files is awesome.
Andrew Forrest thank you dude
The Instinct also looks good for outdoor use.
AWildBard ended up with the instinct! “Basic” and awesome for my use

What sensor is needed for the FR645 Muscle O2 feature?
www.moxymonitor.com/ and www.bsxinsight.com/ are two that have been suggested.
645 music for £175 or 245 music for £210 ?
645 music seems the better deal?
Have you any experience with Applications for skiing on the 245?
Haven’t tried any 3rd party skiing apps.
Does any watch recognise automatically any activities??
Yup! The Apple Watch and the Samsung Galaxy Watch do! At 5 min and 20 seconds in this video: ua-cam.com/video/79zZAkzqfNM/v-deo.html
Des. Be great to get a full review on the 945 from you as I'm waiting for one ordered to arrive. Seems to be a hold up here in Australia.
Dang, hopefully it will arrive soon. I have a few more things I’d like to test but on the home stretch with the 945.
Thanks for the great video!! In your experience, how accurate is the elevation data that Garmin calculates from GPS on the 245? Is it good for capturing hikes and trail running when compared to the 645?
Pretty accurate since it’s based on established GPS data.
DesFit that’s awesome to hear! Thanks so much :)
What would be the best watch for a rower? I’ve been trying to decide which one to get for a while and wondered if you have any insight
No PacePro on the 645. That bugs me because there is no reason for it not to be there...
Don’t disagree with you one bit.
Which one would you buy? I can get the 645 for cheaper but looking for a good music watch
How about the 645 Music?
@@DesFit I just bought the 645 music. Is it better than 245 music
I don't get it. Both watches have heart rate sensors, but for every feature you mention you need external ones. What the heck. Is the included one that useless ?!
The wrist based HR sensor works for most things but the features that require an external sensor require extremely accurate measurements.
The buttons on the 245 music is too hard to push. My former 235 had much better buttons. Why did Garmin change the buttons?
I do pool swimming running n some cardio exercises im confused between 645 music vs 245 music please help me which one is good watch
The main difference between the two is that the 645 has an altimeter, both either one should work for you.
Garmin 645 or garmin fenix 5s? For 2019 thank you...
reagan mandinguiado a few months ago I was tied between these two and went with the Fenix. More premium materials, better water resistance, open water swim tracking (was important for me but turned out to work bad) and slightly better battery life. The 645 has music option (I don’t care about it), slightly larger screen and also weighs a bit less. Everything else is more or less the same.
thank you sir for your reply.. I'm getting the 5s sapphire edition.
I’ve fenix 5. It’s quite heavy. Go and try it in a store first. There’s no music in 5s.
