Well... I haven't found really anything for awhile now in junkyards. But, I've been collecting parts for years now. I have tons of parts, all 4 intakes, a complete kl31 klze, (UA-cam it for sound and see what it can run,) that could only be more mint if it was in a box. If I absolutely need something, I can get it online. I don't think there is anything that can deliver as much total car experience for the money. Great driving experience from the handling, shifting, engine sound, engine refinement, higher tq than other cars in it's class, light weight at 2800lbs. with all options (same as a naturally aspirated Porsche 944.) Then there's the technical aspects of the engine, 6 cyl, with forged steel crank with a cradle instead of individual caps, everything designed for high rpm durability with all the right sounds. Variable resonance intake system for a wider tq curve, the 4 intakes I have make peak tq at different rpms. You could turbocharge and go racing against some pretty fast cars for merely a few thousand dollars. I paid $650 for car #2 running.

KLZE swap and MAF swap, 2.5" exhaust the whole way with Magnaflow hiflow cat and Muffler. It's an easy swap bolts in. You can buy the MAF swap from a guy on here. Naturally aspirated you'll be in the 5 second range 0-60. It's a ton of fun and the sound is like nothing else.
@@pgtmr2713 wow brother! ill tell ya, id be happy to even be in the 6.5 sec range.. an engine swap is more than i want to do to get some speed...limited money and tools here unfortunately.. the maf swap sounds interesting though..how much of a change would that give me? i always thought the original VAF was a horrible restrictive design! i had a magnaflow cat on mine for a yr...sounded GREAT but the damn thing melted on the inside and i had to go back to a walker cat.. dont know why that happenned, no check engine lights and new o2 sensors when i had the magnaflow..
The most expensive tool I had to buy was the engine crane. 175 with a balancer at Hobo Fright. My engine was a great find for $600. I had to drill a hole in the midshaft mounting bracket for the passenger axle to get 3 bolts onto the block. Where the DE bolts up with only 2. I loosened the Cruise control, unplugged it and moved it out of the way enough. Modified the throttle cable bracketby drilling a hole for it to work. That was all the work that went into my swap. Engine still beautiful inside no sludge. My Magnaflow Cat is still clean, I can see through it, 12k miles hard driving since the swap.I had to check the cat when it failed emissions. I believe it failed because the header flex pipe and broke let in air before the cat. The swap itself was easy. Take the engine and trans out together put em back in together. Not an intimidating job at all. Take your time, make sure you get everything you need and you should be fine.
0-60 in 7.3 seconds is still actually faster than the AVERAGE ( considering all cars, trucks and SUVs) car on the road. But I know you'd really have to go row through those gears fast to get that time. But still, pretty quick.
Those were the days when they'd gripe about the aerodynamics as if it mattered on a street car. They could've done better on the 0-60 regardless. So it wouldn't have helped.
I'm a 19 year old with the same model and colored car as shown in the video. I like the Probe and think its served me well. I've had the car for about 2 years now and it's ran very smoothly, not to mention its good on gas. I love the shift action and I think the pop up headlights are unique. IT doesn't handle very well in snowy weather which can be a pain living in Wisconsin.
i've had 15 Probe GT's. still have a 95 GT 5 speed, had her for almost 4 years. Im a car dealer that can get pretty much any car i want, and I choose Probes over any and all. My current daily driver is a 96 Mazda 626 ES V6 5 speed...identical drivetrain and chassis as Probe GT's just a different body and interior. its fast as shit. way quicker than my Probe, i dunno why.
I used to race these probe's with my 99' SVT Contour. They always put up a pretty good fight, I walked them including my brother's 95 Probe GT (5M). I always liked the looks of the Probe GT, nice little car.
My stock '92 Subaru SVX does 0-60 in about 6.7secs, not bad for a stock car that weighs 800lbs more than yours and cost me $1400, and has a final ratio of 3.54 (highway gears, its no 1/4mile drag car). Oh, its also an automatic.
I bought a 1994 Ford Probe GT black brand new. I had it for 5 years and traded it in for a Cavalier. I currently own a 2005 Chevy Cavalier LS Sport which is much faster and better looking than the Probe GT was. And I know no one here will argue with me on this one!!
I can't understand why my mechanic is beefing so hard about the timing belt on my 95 GT. I just cross referenced the belt with the one from the '98 Mazda 626 v6. Same belt! This v6 was used in several cars, I wonder why everyone is saying the timing belt is so hard to frickin' come by.
@dsmluck "Technology" moves on... These cars are basically 20 years old now. We can say with some confidence that Mazda/Ford wasn't overly concerned with people driving these cars hard most of the time. If they had been more concerned with performance chances are that the drive shafts would be equal length, they aren't. The Probe GT is just a little sports coupe that you can probably take up to 230 hp and not worry about reliability issues. It was never meant to be a Porsche. It's a Ford/Mazda.
- Wow, this old UA-cam video was posted 14 years ago, on a story aired 26 years ago. How many less Probes are around today in 2020. Very sad as you never see them anymore.
A stock N/A 300xz runs a 15.1-15.4 1/4 mile, a stock PGT runs a 15.4-15.7 (those were the fastests time for the PGT also, most were around 16 flat). Remember also, the N/A 300xz is the base model....
I know exactly how you feel. I had to turn down an offer of 3,500 for my PGT with 100,000 on her just because I couldn't let her go. I have a feeling I'm never getting rid of her
well sorry man I didn't mean any disrespect to you. I wanted to mention the civic because those times 0-60 are not very fast and a 1sec time diff is quite a substantial gap in a head on head race. I actually have been looking into getting a probe as they are nice looking and sound good with an exhaust plus a klze swap would be cool, not to mention my current daily driver (completely stock 94' civic hatch) has no ac (sucks) I did have a rhd 180sx sr20det but not practical so it is sold
i suggest if you get a probe get a 5 speed the auto ones are really slow i have a 2.0 probe and love it i used to own a 300zx and the probe still impresses me just a warning though they sit up a little high im getting mine lowered 2 inches i dont like to ride in high sitting cars its just my pref though if you get it enjoy it :) just so you know no matter what probe u get 4cyl or v6 the klze bolts into both of them easily
I bought one today for $1400...A GTV6 5Spd with a whopping 68,000 miles on the clock. One owner and woman owned. Only things wrong are that it needs a new battery, tires are dry-rotted, the upper radiator hose is brittle and the steering wheel is cocked a little to the side. It was sitting for a year or so but started right up. Question for Probe 5Spd owners; The clutch releases a little low for my taste, is it self adusting or can I do something about it? I pick it up tomorrow morning. Paid for
Well, it's a done deal now. I found someone else to do it. Took them about 5 hours to do. I saw those oil cooler lines going bad too, got that crap, all the belts, tensioners, water pump etc etc replaced! My SHOs have been parked ever since I bought this car! Woohoo!
i like my probe. its my first car. i would sell it for z nissan 300zx in a heart beat, but it means to much to my cousin (the person who gave it to me). thanks anyway dude.
I wasn't comparing them either, I was saying that most of the "hype" your talking about is for the STi, not the WRX. You can't expect the WRX to perform like the STi, and there really isn't anywhere near as much hype over the WRX compared to the STi.
I like the Probe GT and almost ended up with one, but AWD and Subaru's amazing chassis dynamics (mostly due to the low center of gravity from a boxer engine) lead me to the SVX (which is heavier and faster than the PGT). Think what you want, its your opinion. But the Probe GT isnt god's gift to man kind or anything (just my opinion).
there is a probe gt on ebay that is 700$.it is really nice and it has a five speed,it is a 96,and a rare color w/136000 mi.check into it!(oh and it is not mine,i just saw it on ebay but cant buy it cuz i aint got no money!)
because a car is AWD doesnt mean it has no top end, theres plenty of AWD cars that are faster top-end then RWD, it all has to do with gearing. I also never said the Veyron was good at the 1/4, again because it is geared for top-end, not 1/4mile times.
You never stated anything about engine size, your post was "awd is fast sure, but its def not faster on topend, bc- it has to give more to work the front tires wich slow it up" and nothing more. I'm simply pointing out the fact that JUST
I was wondering if you still have that 1997 ford probe gt, I have a 1997 also and I'm looking for parts seeing that i'm told I cant find certain parts for my probe any ideas to were I can get them.
@dsmluck How bad is torque steer in a 2011 FWD car with 260+ horsepower because it is bad in the Probe these Probe GTs. It was even worse in my Integra. One time my steering wheel jumped right out of my hands. My 97 SHO basically has not torque steer that I've ever experienced. It's not so bad in my 92 SHO either.
I own a 93 PGT .. For some reason I love driving it better than this NSRT4 I had , sometimes speed don't mean shit if you love the way it handles and drives .. Probes look good as hell from the front btw ..I've owned about 7 cars and this mofo handles better than anything I've driven , good cars in my opinion.
The forgotten best all-around sports coupe of the 90's...Hands down. Funny thing? Once I switched out of a GS-R Integra for a PGT, needless to say I'd never buy another GS-R.
I agree..pepz dont wanna go..well who know me!...I have two 94 Gtz...I tell u they r the best car..defintily Underated & u can pick up a decent one for a low price..I have LIED & tell pepz Itz(heavily)modified..cuz I regulary smoke 5.0's.or w/e I've been comin across..lol...the only thing I did so far was cold air & an upgraded exhaust...there is also a Turbo availible...allot of nice custom parts out there..I would recomnebd 100%..add a few buckz...it cant be beat for price/style/performance
just thought i'd check out this review again...Id commented a yr or so ago b4..still have my 94 gt 5spd abt 206,000 mi .. still as slow as molasses.. gotta be the weakest 6 cyl ive Ever experienced... most 4 bangers feel like beasts compared to mine.. runs smooth ,idles fine, sounds sweet, no codes, no misfires ,180psi compression, recent cat and o2 sensors, vris verified working, no vacuum leaks , new disty and wires ,recent plugs, great oil pressure, so WTF? how can an engine run That weak,? i swear it has 100whp by the butt dyno..also put a knock sensor on it and still no real improvement... i give up..its reliable and looks nice and gets me from point a to b but exciting? nope...any modern 4 banger feels like a missle by comparison..
I like these cars whats more reliable this motor or the 2.2 litre turbo? there pretty cheap Im tempted to buy a turbo 89 one strip all the interior buy some performance break pads a boost controler some used racing seats and maybe a fiberglass hood. and call it a day. that thing would kill a lot of stuff setup like that.
i looked up the cat back exuast on ebay. and it found about 300. some $50, others $500. the probe GT is $550. haha im not paying that for my probe SS. but the other cheaper exuasts,..can they fit on my probe? can any exuast fit on any car? -thanks
But it does out perform the Probe GT and up to 2007 has been on the same platform since the GC8 era (when Subaru won so many manufacturers titles in the WRC). Really the WRX doesnt have that much "hype" the STi does, but thats an almost completely different car from a technical stand point.
I want to know what the hell they're talking about with torque steer. The second-generation Probes all had equal-length CV axles, and thus, no torque steer.
i cannot say anything bad about probes 1500 is a great deal hard tops are better i find with the moon roof it just gives the car more failure points for rust and water leaks.
The guy I have recruited is a mechanic for the Police Dept here. The community service cars are mid/late 90's v6 Contours (same engine). He's worked on a lot of them. I was at the Junkyard today looking at Mazda 626's v6 (same engine) and they all appear to be laid out just the same... I think my mechanic is being too anal. Peace.
i wish the probe would have just replaced the mustang. I mean like they couldve made a GT with rwd and a V8 but the other models fwd V6s...oh well i loved my 89 ford probe GL
If it were an Integra people would be climbing all over one another to get their greasy paws on it if your car is as good as you say it is (I don't doubt that it is). It has been a long time since Sport Compact Car was singing this car's praise when it first came out. In this class, Honda/Acura is KING (deserved). Only the 240sx get as much notoriety as Integras/CRXs/Civics. Then again, were talking about selling cars to teenagers that don't really know shit or have enough balls to be different.
I really dont care about the car scene....i'm perfectly fine knowing my SVX's are rare and underrated. It was designed with a completely different goal in mind then the WRX, the SVX does what it was designed to do perfectly. My point to you was, the Probe GT isnt gods gift to man-kind like your playing it out to be. Yeah, its alittle underrated, but its also underpowered and cant compete with similar cars from its era.
@LLCoolPass 5 months and it runs like a champ. Watch who the hell you're calling an idiot. Anyone can make a simple mistake... BESIDES, the displacement 2.5L and configuration DOHC are the same. I made a mistake. Do you work for Holman and Moody or something? Shit! I know WTF I'm doing. My v6 SHO and my v8 SHO run just as good as my Probe GT. Any other smart remarks you got for me?
@ACEBAKER911 cause a mustang is a mustang, doesnt matter which year everyone wants a mustang. a probe well who cares there nice little cars but there not worth much nowadays.
The Bugatti Veyron is AWD and has a top end of 250+ mph.....AWD/RWD/FWD has nothing to do with top-end, thats only related to gearing and Hp. I half agree with you on the displacement part, but really, its not everything, formula 1 engines are 2.4litres and produce 780hp.
The first gen GT turbos were faster than the second gen GT V6 cars. First gen turbo cars were almost as fast as V8 GT Mustangs in the 1/4 mile. Ford could have made this a world class car, but company politics killed it off.
@eancaafsufan A probe gt or mx6 ls will rape a cavalier ls. Ive had a 93 ls with 164k miles and just a cone filter. Raced my friends brand new 06 cobalt, twice from a roll and I had raped it. Raced twice from a dig and had 5 cl at 90. He is a good driver too. But yeah I agree a cav looks better than a probe just for the fact its newer! maybe your probe was an automatic, which should still beat a 2.2
Maybe alittle underappreciated, but it never was fast or a great performing car in its category. Really the Probe GT was at the bottom of the list when compared to similar cars from its era, base model 300zx, 3000gt, Supra, and even the SVX. All the TT versions of those cars (minus the SVX since it never came FI) would blow the doors off the Probe GT. So in all honesty, its a nice car, but its no great performing sports car.
if your selling your probe gt for over $2000 there better be mods on it. if its just stock than your not gonna get that unless theres less than 200k on the motor or a mint body. but than again stupid people do exist so you can sell it for however much you want to.
@teun3sixty american enginering.. maybe, but the engine is from mazda, its a 2.5L KL-DE..only a ford valve cover on it. i had this engine in a lighter mazda mx-3... i whooped some ass with it.. its not the most powerfull thing in the world.. but for the price.. quite acceptable > but supra is the total sex (1993+), i can't disagree on that
Just because its RWD doesnt mean it will get there faster.......Pretty much after 100mph the drivetrain layout has nothing to do with acceleration, power-to-weight and gearing are what matter......Need me to draw a picture?
um...no...the old gt500 cannot hit near the speeds of the new one...nor can it corner like the new one...which isnt saying much...but run them side by side, the new gt500 is a much faster beast
@marshalllucky o.O? no cares how fast a car is, seriously dude. That's what people watch and follow racing. That's where it comes into play. Venom GT... Bugatti Veyron etc. They'll all great, but clearly that's where the price comes from. Any manufacture, or company could go ahead a design and build yet another 'fastest road car in the world'. But they don't because they are 'profiting companies'.

The last gen Cougar was meant to be the 3rd gen Probe, just like the Probe was meant to be the Mustang.

bring back the probe

I actually have been looking into getting a probe as they are nice looking and sound good with an exhaust plus a klze swap would be cool, not to mention my current daily driver (completely stock 94' civic hatch) has no ac (sucks) I did have a rhd 180sx sr20det but not practical so it is sold
Im a die hard chevy guy, but even i want one of these probes!
i suggest if you get a probe get a 5 speed the auto ones are really slow i have a 2.0 probe and love it i used to own a 300zx and the probe still impresses me just a warning though they sit up a little high im getting mine lowered 2 inches i dont like to ride in high sitting cars its just my pref though if you get it enjoy it :) just so you know no matter what probe u get 4cyl or v6 the klze bolts into both of them easily
Paid for
The beautiful and extremely rev happy KL might be a Mazda, but it was co-engineered with Porsche ;) something we Probe fans are well aware of
I'm a huge fan of the Ford Probe don't give a flying fuck what anyone says about it.
I love them.
i own a ford probe and am lovin' it
Well, it's a done deal now. I found someone else to do it. Took them about 5 hours to do. I saw those oil cooler lines going bad too, got that crap, all the belts, tensioners, water pump etc etc replaced! My SHOs have been parked ever since I bought this car! Woohoo!
thanks man, ill buy onne of the catbacks. youve been very helpful!
i like my probe. its my first car. i would sell it for z nissan 300zx in a heart beat, but it means to much to my cousin (the person who gave it to me). thanks anyway dude.
yeah my 93 probe gt has 237k miles on it and it runs better than most cars.
pretty quick too.
Love them, had an MX6, just got a 93 gt 5spd. With a different name, they would have been a hit.
I wasn't comparing them either, I was saying that most of the "hype" your talking about is for the STi, not the WRX. You can't expect the WRX to perform like the STi, and there really isn't anywhere near as much hype over the WRX compared to the STi.
I LOVE the headlights:D
I love my Probe, great car...
The specs of my car are a reply to something acouple pages back, you're only seeing the newest posts, without regard to what they are replies to.
i have a base model probe with 310k miles and has the same clutch and tranny and motor...so i would say it lasted past its due
I miss my probe so bad R.I.P. ='(
You never stated anything about engine size, your post was "awd is fast sure, but its def not faster on topend, bc- it has to give more to work the front tires wich slow it up" and nothing more.
Srt4 Milo what 7 cars have u owned?
Probes are one of the nicest cars around but no one really notices, I have two a 2.0 and the 2.5 94 se and 93 gt
The forgotten best all-around sports coupe of the 90's...Hands down. Funny thing? Once I switched out of a GS-R Integra for a PGT, needless to say I'd never buy another GS-R.
whoohaaXL it's that much better huh?
I love my MX6 (same engine) I get 36 mpg at 60!
Where do you live? I'm from Indiana, and I've been looking for a GT for awhile now!
Nice video clip
yeah the 4 cy is kind of slow. is there anything i can do to make it sound like a GT? maybe an exuast or something?
@6notadam0 Go to Maaco or Electrobake, 'bout $199.99 to $250.00 for a base scuff 'n' shoot.
somewhat they are. no lie about that.
you wont believe how much i paid for a 97gts in intact condition(exept bad engine)200$ and i got the engine for it in my mx6
I want to know what the hell they're talking about with torque steer. The second-generation Probes all had equal-length CV axles, and thus, no torque steer.
@1989FordProbeGT LOL U GOT ME! BUT I LIKE ALL CARS.
Fix
Or
Repair
Dialy..
i cannot say anything bad about probes 1500 is a great deal hard tops are better i find with the moon roof it just gives the car more failure points for rust and water leaks.
hope he used the proper belt
The guy I have recruited is a mechanic for the Police Dept here. The community service cars are mid/late 90's v6 Contours (same engine). He's worked on a lot of them. I was at the Junkyard today looking at Mazda 626's v6 (same engine) and they all appear to be laid out just the same... I think my mechanic is being too anal. Peace.
a mate of mind has a probe, i have a capri
i just thank god ford didn pull the trigger on replacing the Mustang with ....That
i wish the probe would have just replaced the mustang. I mean like they couldve made a GT with rwd and a V8 but the other models fwd V6s...oh well i loved my 89 ford probe GL
hahaha hell yea!!!! I'm about to get one light blue
Definately get it lol....probes are awesome
If it were an Integra people would be climbing all over one another to get their greasy paws on it if your car is as good as you say it is (I don't doubt that it is). It has been a long time since Sport Compact Car was singing this car's praise when it first came out. In this class, Honda/Acura is KING (deserved). Only the 240sx get as much notoriety as Integras/CRXs/Civics. Then again, were talking about selling cars to teenagers that don't really know shit or have enough balls to be different.
Was this even a real magazine?
I really dont care about the car scene....i'm perfectly fine knowing my SVX's are rare and underrated. It was designed with a completely different goal in mind then the WRX, the SVX does what it was designed to do perfectly. My point to you was, the Probe GT isnt gods gift to man-kind like your playing it out to be. Yeah, its alittle underrated, but its also underpowered and cant compete with similar cars from its era.
im sorry to say theres no way ur beating 5.0s with a probe unless u have a good bit of mods done to it
@LLCoolPass 5 months and it runs like a champ.
@ACEBAKER911
cause a mustang is a mustang, doesnt matter which year everyone wants a mustang. a probe well who cares there nice little cars but there not worth much nowadays.
DAMN can someone give me the Background music to this???
Identical to my 1st car...
So a stock Probe GT (that runs 15.4-15.7 1/4miles) can beat a stock WRX (that runs mid 14's)? The WRX has more HP than you even.
But yeah I agree a cav looks better than a probe just for the fact its newer! maybe your probe was an automatic, which should still beat a 2.2
Once you have money, well see how much longer you have that probe for!
@marshalllucky REALLY?
Calm down Lee Iacocca. The work is done already.
if your selling your probe gt for over $2000 there better be mods on it.
if its just stock than your not gonna get that unless theres less than 200k on the motor or a mint body.
but than again stupid people do exist so you can sell it for however much you want to.
@marshalllucky o.O?
no cares how fast a car is, seriously dude.
@marshalllucky haha, naww :(
bless her ^^
@ACEBAKER911 real cheesy haha!
