AWESOME! It would've been neat if you could've gotten a Keystone train knocking down the CPL in the distance while 475 switched but that was still fantastic as always!
That would be cool! I love seeing that. Somebody got video of one of the steam engines doing passenger run, the SW doing a revenue freight run, and an Amtrak Keystone all in one day once but I don't remember who it was or the channel name. Electric, steam, and diesel all in one day.
Stunningly shot, the 4k just adds to your production. You really have great photography skills compared to some of the other productions I've seen here at UA-cam!
Awesome!!!! I agree with Raifan Tube. It would be cool if a Keystone train went by but still awesome. When I was there I saw that the signal for Amtrak was green but no train while we were at Paradise
That sure is amazing quality, I'm looking to upgrade to 4K next year or the year after. Looking at a Panasonic G7 but we'll see what I end up getting. Great shots, can't wait to see more 4K video!
Class J Video Productions Train Videos Thanks! I like the 4K function, the quality is finally up to par with cinema. However, the large 1" CMOS sensor in this camera is a bit slow with the vertical scanning of each frame, so you get a "jarring" or "rolling shutter effect" on faster moving trains. The Sony FDR-AX100 is by no means an action cam. Therefore, I'm shooting most of my freight videos at 1080p at 60fps, which greatly reduces or in most cases eliminates this effect, but the quality is still astounding. The large sensor does allow great shots in low light, but I'll hold off on shooting all of my projects in 4K until a better consumer model comes along (preferably with a 4K 60 fps mode). For now, all my videos of short lines or tourist or other slow moving trains will be in 4K. As far as file size goes, they're huge, but 1080p 60p file sizes are about equal to 4K 30p files anyway. Get yourself a few 5 TB drives and your set for some time. Also, you have to factor that UA-cam compresses video quality to about half. That means an HD 60p file uploaded at 50 MB/s will likely be compressed down to 20-25ish. That means 4K under UA-cam compression as actually more akin to high quality HD.
Central Penn Rail Productions I gotcha. Well I'm looking to go to 4K pretty soon, I tend to rotate video formats every 3-5 years or so. I upgraded to 1080p at the end of 2011, so naturally, 2016 would be about time for that :) BTW, do you have to convert the files from XAVC-S before uploading, or does UA-cam accept them as is?
Class J Video Productions Train Videos XAVC-S is a family of mp4 format so it should be accepted. I don't exactly know because I don't upload files directly off of the camera, but I render them under an mp4 format, adjust the frame size and bit rate close to the original (a little less because of UA-cam compression) and they work fine. I use Sony Vegas Movie Studio 13 and they recognize the XAVC-S files, but I did not yet use or test the stock XAVC-S rendering option. I usually just hit custom and adjust the settings to what they were in the property's menu of the original file. Hope that helps.
Central Penn Rail Productions Reason I asked is because I was thinking of getting the Sony Cybershot DSC-RX10 II, but if it requires converting, I don't think it's worth it. I know the Panasonic G7 already shoots in H264, and I don't think UA-cam is H265 ready yet.
I still use H264, but the quality is fine. H265 or VP9 are fairly new but my understanding is that they allow those large files (150 MB/s+) to be recorded, but as far as I know it is not yet compatible directly to UA-cam. But if your editor recognizes it, and you change the render to a 4K file format under H264 it should still work and look fine...and again, because UA-cam compresses so much you really wouldn't have a need to upload in H265 or VP9. Now this is personal preference, but I store all of the raw files and render usually a slightly compressed copy for UA-cam, and never delete anything original.
Awesome catches of 475 doing occasional freight!
super Video.
greetings from Munich/Germany
Very nice Eric! I really need to get out there one of these days and shoot one of their steam freights!
All Aboard Productions Thanks Mike, I'm planning on making it for one of the fall runs.

+RailfanTube One went by just as I got there and I missed it! Maybe next time I can get a meet.

Great catch my man I love the video Thanks for sharing
Excellent Video Eric, you definitely have some of the best railroad videos of UA-cam!

denault3985 Thank you.
I still love that intro! Currently watching! I'm always excited to see your videos!

The 4K quality just adds to this video. Awesome documentation witnessing some of Strasburg's switching and running action in this clip!
Great video - and I love the intro too, very creative!!
