Hello, fellow Megan Rhiannon fan here :) I also have one of those notebook-themed gloomy cards tucked away in my journal cover. It’s such a lovely reminder to be kind to yourself while staying consistent. What I love most about your journals is the fact that you have your own style, and when you take inspiration from other creators it doesn’t manifest as blind copying. I adore the variety of found ephemera and your gorgeous sketches. Your channel has officially made it into my list of comfort media, and I can’t wait for the next video
Aaaah hello! Welcome to The Common Corner°~ the way I smiled on the bus at 8am reading this beautiful comment, thank you, thank you. I think it is so cute that there is a little group of people who all have a little gloomy card tucked away somewhere~ Your thoughts on my journal are so so appreciated! I'm glad you're here. See you soon°~
Thank you again Angela~ I always appreciate your presence in my comments! And I agree°~ I think our journals are a direct portal to our most truest self :) See you again soon °~
I just have a Weeks right now, and this makes me excited to try out a larger hobonichi in the future! Day spreads have intimidated me due to worrying about filling them regularly, but seeing the wide variety of ways that you've used your daily pages is really cool and I love seeing how you used the July section even though the dates had already passed.
Take your time with the Weeks, and enjoy it! ~ The inspiration to fill larger pages will collect over time and when you decide to try out a bigger Hobonichi I think you will find it so exciting (a bit like what happened to me). Then it will be easy to fill the pages! ^^ And thank you for the sweet comment :) There really are no rules, and we should use the books in a way that works for us, and helps us out in our daily lives
Thank you for another great video! I enjoyed how interactive your notebook is with the paste-ins and the art. I’ve been trying to return to art again in my own notebooks. Looking at some of the drawings/tip ins that you called out as enjoying, I think you would like the architectural drawings done by Atelier Bow-Wow. The page on September 28th particularly reminded me of their work.
Thank you so much! Ah, I feel like my little book is so appreciated through your comment~ I suggest just doing a little doodle that brings you happiness on that specific day, then slowly you start to see a collection of things in your notebooks that add to the joys in life. I have just checked out the drawings you mentioned by Atelier Bow-Wow, and ah....thank you! I have not heard of them yet, and I am so glad to have discovered something so inspiring~ I'll be printing out some favorites and pasting them in my book~ keep an eye out for them in the next video :) See you soon°~
I watched this while working on setting up my new reading journal and it was very inspiring :) I also love megan rhiannon and use a lot of her printable stickers and draw a lot of inspiration from her for my common place book
Really enjoyed this video, thank you for sharing! It's so cool to see the variety in design and content of your spreads. I've recently purchased my first Cousin Avec, and feel so inspired after this flip through. Haven't seen many journal folks on YT also interested in both Kpop and anime/manga, so I was happy to see those in your spreads! And as a Chinese-American, I was also pleasantly surprised to see the wuxing diagram at 15:32. ^^ It's really impressive how consistently you journaled here. I'd love to hear more about what your routine looks like, especially if you're in a period of being very busy, if you're comfortable sharing. Thanks, and looking forward to the next one!
Hi there~ thank you for this kind comment, I read it first thing in the morning and it made me really happy! Your appreciation of my journal goes straight to my heart~ (enjoy the journey in your Avec!) And yes! I should maybe share my Common Place book too, as I deep-dive into different manga characters & Chinese cinema + pop culture there in more detail. Heheh, the wuxing diagram was shown to me recently by my partner (he is from Hong Kong, I am from Finland, but by this point different East Asian cultures are so close to my heart)! I have also studied more about yijing (易經), and hope to include some things in my daily pages~ will keep you updated! I was actually thinking of sharing some thoughts on my daily journaling habits, how exactly it fits in my life as a medical student. Thank you for the encouragement. See you soon! °~
@@TheCommonCorner Hi! So glad my comment was well-received ^^ Oh my gosh, I'd definitely love to see your common place book - funnily enough, watching more Chinese cinema is one of my goals for the year! My favorite film is Wong Kar Wai's In the Mood for Love, but at this point, I've watched much more Korean and Japanese media and I need to balance it out haha. Also how lovely that your partner shared that. :) It's so fun to learn new things from loved ones! Very much look forward to hearing about your studying yijing - I'm learning more about traditional Chinese medicine and it's really rewarding! Lastly, thanks for replying so thoughtfully! Your videos have actually made me want to document my exploration of analogue archiving as well - just have to muster up the courage haha. Take care!
I've just seen how I didnt reply to your comment~ must have done so in my head as Wong Kar Wai is my fave director and your mention of me made me very excited! I hope that your analogue archives continue smoothly :)
Thanks for sharing your 2023 spread! Its really pretty and really excited to start mine (just got my 2024 hobonichi spring books and setting them up next week) I’d like to know, do you index your daily entries and how helpful is it? Not to sure if i should for my daily journaling too. 😄
Hi~! Thank you so much for your beautiful comments, I'm so excited to hear about your spring books, enjoy the journey. I do index my daily entries in the Hobonichi Avec "6 months at a glance" pages (shown here: ua-cam.com/video/A0DHtOAoyDg/v-deo.html )~ there is just enough room to write the "topic" of the day. Here I usually write whether I am reflecting on something (e.g. "thoughts on my new hobonichi"), what kind of a day it was (e.g. "rainy day at home reading" or "busy day at the hospital"), or if it is a special day (e.g. someone's birthday). If I saw a movie that day at the cinema, I usually write the name in the index~ in the end you get a slightly unorganised but still useful overview of each month. Going back to my 2023 book, I really enjoy finding sets of pages from a certain chapter of life through this index. So, in conclusion I highly recommend! I hope this helps :)
Great video! I’m wondering how you separate the artistic side of yourself separate from the medical/professional side in your journal. I’m a school speech/language pathologist and work seems to take up so much space in my mind.
Thank you! And this is such a good question~ I am sure Ill be reflecting on it more in future videos. But to share some thoughts here: I agree, to be in a field where we are in such close contact with people whom we have the privilege to treat/help, it is human to have those thoughts in mind when outside of that environment. One of my daily habits is to either open my journal while still in that professional space, or just when I get home, and write. Write out those thoughts and emotions from work, and then take a break to wind down (meditation is useful here). This helps me let go of those thoughts, almost as if my pen is an extension from my mind, helping them flow right out and to the page. I often go back to my journal in the evening, and fill it with things that please my eye (either my own drawings, photographs, or things I have received from others or cut from magazines etc.). By integrating beautiful things with the tougher human aspects of life (journaling about pathology, medicine...), I accept that both of these aspects can exist and interlink. So, I don't think I am either able to separate these two aspects of my life, as I do identify as a photographer and an artist alongside being a medical student, but journaling about it and integrating everything on the same pages helps me let go of the medical aspects of my mind after I get home from work. I hope these thoughts helped a little bit, use your journal for you~ let it carry everything that our minds have trouble carrying. I'm sure with time, you'll be able to find a balance that feels comfortable. Apologies for the hefty answer, but feel free to share any thoughts via these comments, or in the DMs of my new instagram account @the.commoncorner Thanks for tuning in, and see you soon°~
