Heath ledger Joker barely actually smiled except when he was laughing. He was the first live action joker to just be... creepy. Most of the time, he wasn’t smiling. But, yeah, smiling Joker is usually a good joke.
Hi Justin, Awesome review as usual but still it’s a no for me. I also own the old DX11 and the thing is.. after 7 years I don’t see a significant improvement in terms of accuracy. I mean, it’s not that the likeness to the character is off but IMO Hot Toys didn’t accomplish with the level of quality demanded for a large scale figure like this.
Fair enough, in my opinion it’s a step up from the DX11 in the costuming and also a slight step up in the sculpt department. I appreciate both but this one takes it for me
I agree Joao. To my eyes this looks like somebody else wearing the Joker's 'war paint' from TDK, and not Heath Ledger. When you consider the standards of Hot Toys best efforts: Doctor Strange, Ant Man, Bat Fleck etc and the huge strides that Hot Toys have made with the Black Widow, this is a regressive step. To do this with a figure that is based on such an outstanding, iconic performance of a great character, is truly disappointing.
I own the DX11 and it tops this figure in the following major ways: 1) The DX11 HS is far superior. It comes with 2 much better and accurate headsculpts as a standard. 2) The DX11 comes with far more accessories including a whole interrogation room back drop, desk, chair and lamp. 3) DX11 is much better value for money even at its current price point and when it came out it was for only 270usd. 4) DX11 has PERS. 5) DX11 has LED light up base.
I agree the DX11 is the best 1/6 scale version of joker and this is the best 1/4 scale version. The question to me is am I more impressed with the new one or the DX11 which I too have owned. I have to say that this one leaves more of an impression. But that’s ok we can have different opinions, it’s all cool ☺️
100% correct. This isn’t a horrible figure, but the head sculpts are a complete fail, specifically for the scale and price point of this figure. It was actually because of this review that I went to the trouble to ship my figure back to Sideshow. That’s the only time I’ve returned a figure.

stumbled upon this review after coveting one of hot toys' phenomenal joker figurines. when you pointed out the missing button i got curious and checked it out, and yes it does appear like that button isn't there in the movie either! what an incredible detail to include. hot toys are really the best of the best.
I guess I'm in the minority here, but I feel the figure looks phenomenal. I think it's the best Heath Ledger Joker headsculpt I've ever scene on a figure (aside from Adam Gu customs.)
It's a fine sculpt, but there have been a few 1/6 sculpts that have been better since the DX11 was released, and I don't think this sculpt holds up to those. Again, it's a nice figure but I don't think HT beat the sculpts that have been available these past few years.
I'm hoping we will get a re-release here with all the Batman activity re-release of The Dark Knight 1/4 .....recently picked up the 1/4 Begins and man......love it!
Hi Justin...can you suggest either getting a 1/4 or DX11 1/6 HT joker? I mean both are great and cool but I can only afford 1 of them...the price for both are quite close too..
I think enterbay is still better than this one, head sculpt don't look like Heath ledger and no emotional. I have been wait for many years, but the outcome is disappointed.
I’ve been defending it in other comments and I do think people are confusing emotion for expression. Joker is an emotionless, maniacal mad man right? So a cold calculating portrait works perfectly for me
The Enterbay sculpt is superb, but not without its faults: face a little too long, narrow; chin a fraction too big; eyes could do with being a tiny bit further apart. Despite all of this, it still looks a lot Heath Ledger in his war paint. From some angles it's a good 8-9 out of 10. What I really like about the Enterbay sculpt is that it looks to be based on the Jokers look when he crashes the fund raiser, i.e. hair swept back, looking greasy; make up still relatively tidy; eyes looking like he's staring at Rachel, telling her how he got his scars.
I had the opportunity to get this and had planned to so I could set him up next to my 1/4 Dark Knight. But sadly a pay cut at work put the kabash on that plan. Even sold my Dark Knight for some extra cash
Look, the headsculpt makes up 50% of a figure. It says a lot about a character. It’s Heath, but Joker...no. The DX11 that I got yesterday has a good smile and you can move the eyes which adds even more to his personality. The DX11 is my favourite 1/6 figure. I’m sorry Hot Toys, I’m disappointed. Nonetheless, good review Justin.
Unfortunately, HT’s own descriptions about height is not accurate. That’s why it’s always a good info for reviewers to know such. Both Batman and Joker quarterscales are described in their website as “47 cm” tall but they have different heights when you place them side by side in some of your reviews. None of the UA-cam QS Joker reviewers actually showed this specific point. In fact, very rare for reviewers to measure the figs that they are reviewing. Still undecided if I’m gonna buy this figure since this would be my first QS if ever. Thinking it might not fit my cab. Thanks for the help anyway.
Awesome piece. Its a shame Hot Toys took so long to catch on to 1/4 scales. I love 1/4 scales. Im super frustrated at NECA for not making 1/4 scale stands.
Hey justin I was really wanting to get this figure cant find one for less than 800 is that a good price and if not were should I go to get it because I can't live without this.
I have a lot of Hot Toys Joker toys and for me, the Bank Rober Joker 2.0 is easily the best head sculpt. DX11 is a second. This, should have been a home run. Instead, it doesn't look as good as those two despite coming out years after them. I think HT screwed up. It's nice of them to want to honor Ledger, but clearly the reason to go with an expressionless sculpt was because Ledger was on their mind more than the character. Yes, I have this ordered, but it's a bit disappointing. Great review from you though. You're my fav. now that Optibotimus and Shartimus have stopped reviewing Hot Toys.
Honour, or a half arsed cash grab? Both this and their Batman Begins (terrible Bruce Wayne head sculpt) 1/4 have been huge disappointments. It's almost as if the top brass at Hot Toys said to the crafting team: "I don't want you guys spending too much time on these, as we have a ton of Marvel and Star Wars figures that we must prioritize our resources on. We'll go with your first 'drafts'."
Justin! I recently got this piece. I was just wondering if you ever took the neck piece that was covering behind the tie and the shirt off of him. I'm not sure if I should leave it on or is it okay for me to take it off? Anyways loved the review, really the reason I went and get it. I was definitely on the fence about the face but once I saw it in person, there were absolutely zero regrets. Any Nolan collectors or Batman fans should definitely grab this piece while the prices in the second market are still at ease. P.S Jaxon Xu is cooking up some amazing head sculpt for this too, anyone interested should hit him up
Hey Justin I have one question that what is price of this dark knight joker action figure movie master piece in India and where I can get this action figure in India please tell me
Interesting. This has to be the first review that has positive things to say about the head. The hair and the likeness fall some way short of Hot Toys usual standards. The bland expression is also a curious choice, given that Heath Ledger's Joker is one of the most expressive characters in cinematic history. And then there's the absence of PERS?? The DX11 could be made to look jovial one minute, quizzical the next, wicked, scheming... It's a glaring omission to leave this feature out when they have provided it on at least two occasions with their TDK Jokers, more so when you take the price into account. If you genuinely like it, then all the power to you, but I can imagine that there will be some out there who'll try to convince themselves that it is a great likeness to justify the large outlay and quash any doubts whenever they see another, more accurate, HL Joker head sculpt. I'm looking forward to hearing Dean Knights balanced appraisal and seeing what sorcery he performs to elevate the appearance of this piece..
There’s a lot to sift through here I’ll be doing a livestream soon to discuss these issues. I just have to say that if I ever like something I’m too biased and want to justify how much money I spent. If I’m too negative then I didn’t give it a fair go or some even say I’m finally being unbiased. If I genuinely like something I’ll tell you, if I genuinely dislike something I’ll tell you that too. With the risk of sounding rude, the money I paid is not a factor, I usually get 1 figure a week and if I was having cash flow problems I wouldn’t be doing this. I never take into account the price I paid when forming my decisions. I also added in the pros and cons section to try and combat this but it seems everyone wants me to tear this to shreds where unfortunately, in my opinion and in person it’s a great figure and equally great sculpt, hope that helps ☺️
Thanks for the civility of your reply Justin. When I said: "when you take the price into account" I wasn't referring to you or your own financial situation, I'was referring to collectors as whole and value for money/standards that's relative to other high end collectibles. Given how expensive these pieces are today, I believe that we, as consumers, have every right to be hyper critical. As I said, if you genuinely like it, then all the power to you. Subjectively, a lot of people will like it - it's a great Joker figure, but objectively when it's juxtaposed against images of Heath Ledger as the Joker, customs, and even efforts by Black Toys, Overtoys, the flaws with the likeness become all too apparent.
The harsh comments shouldn’t be directed at the guy making the review, it should be directed at hot toys. If Justin likes the figure then so be it that his opinion. At the end of the day it’s all preference. I’ll be waiting until I see a side by side comparison with the Enterbay joker before I keep my P/O or canceling it, the truth is the hot toys sculpt is seriously missing vital resemblance in the eyes, lips, nose and forehead. And I think people are just disappointed more than anything as hot toys should be moving forwards not backwards. That said someone signed the paperwork that the likeness was fine, so don’t be surprised that they release another 1/4 joker in the not to distance future after all it’s all about making money.
@@JustinsCollection Really don't get the second portrait. He's got half his face paint rubbed off, which suggests he's recently been through something. Yet he has a totally blank look on his face. Total waste.
I can see Heath in the half painted sculpt but not in the fully make up sculpt. Primes 1/2 scale Joker is the only mass produced product that has dead on likeness to Heath.
Licensing, research and development costs: each figure probably goes through numerous iterations with regards to the head sculpt, its complex paint applications, its clothing/costume, box and accessories. Don't forget that these figures are hand painted and tailored using real fabrics. The likes of NECA (as good as they are) use mostly plastics for their apparel and their pieces are most likely crafted by machines. Then you have to factor in that Hot Toys need to make a profit, supply and demand, retailers inflating the recommended retail price to boost their margins, and the after market. Accounting for all of these variables, I think that we still get a good deal most of the time. I was just looking at the new Black Widow on ebay. It's selling for £209.99. When you consider how much people can pay for customs, which sometimes offer inferior quality, and other forms of art, I feel that Hot Toys can be a relative bargain.
Hot Toys usually impress, especially in-hand, but the expression on the face is too neutral, and the jacket is too clean looking. The base is a bit unsightly too. The DX11 head was brilliant. That extra head was so unnecessary, at no point in the movie does he look like that.
@@JustinsCollection I meant, I was hoping you actually did make the effort to put it in the jacket with it. But is ok, I know you said it was difficult
I watched avengers endgame yesterday my favorite part was when thanos died i loved that part because he know what he did and i never liked tony and then i did but then he died

They cost what they cost unfortunately
Better then Dx 11
Yes
Different scale
Hot Toys usually impress, especially in-hand, but the expression on the face is too neutral, and the jacket is too clean looking. The base is a bit unsightly too. The DX11 head was brilliant. That extra head was so unnecessary, at no point in the movie does he look like that.
I personally like the dead eyed cold stare
wheres the pool stick
Didn’t come with it unfortunately
Enterbay did better on the hs . In fact they’ve done a better job on both batman and joker than hot toys
Yep
Where is all his grenades in his inner jacket??
I showed them in the accessories
@@JustinsCollection I meant, I was hoping you actually did make the effort to put it in the jacket with it. But is ok, I know you said it was difficult
Thats pretty awesone👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻

T^T I miss Heath Ledger so much T^T
He was a great actor!
I wish i could have that... but you can't get it under $500...
You cannot
I honestly hope they do a 1/4 scale endgame Cap and/or ironman
Would love that
amazing
Thanks!
I watched avengers endgame yesterday my favorite part was when thanos died i loved that part because he know what he did and i never liked tony and then i did but then he died
Sweet!
@@JustinsCollection yeah i didn't cry or anything when he died because for years i never liked him so I'm just getting used to it
And i don't like the fact that steve and Peggy are together do you want me to tell you why
i just want Endgame Thor😂😂😂
Me too!
I'll keep my 1/4 Neca. This is way more detailed and has all the accessories but that face is not doing it for me.
Fair enough
i reall wishthey put the makeup globs on his flesh hands but i guess that is a bit much to ask for
Yeah would have been a nice touch
The DX11 is trash and this new version still inaccurate, the portrait is too slim and young
Wow that’s spicy
