Been following you for a while and love how you're just an honest hard working guy who isn't afraid to get his hands dirty and earn some $$. Not to mention you are very good at what you do! Keep it up brother!
Exmark became a division of Toro in 1997, which is good as Toro being a larger company has more resources to ensure Exmark makes high quality machines.
good morning my brother I hope you find you well. My wife and I always watch his videos and he has taught us a lot, thank you for your time. We would like to see if you recommend the exmark 36 turf tracer hydro walk behind as we are starting this business. We will appreciate your answer thanks tony and mily lugo keep on playing videos we congratulate you blessings
Scag products are fabricated at Metalcraft of Mayville, Inc., one of the largest independently owned manufacturers of commercial power equipment in North America.
Just ordered one today so I can get in these tiny gates in the subdivisions around me, hope it serves me well cause I'm tired of wasting time push mowing.
Been trying to figure out what Mower to get for rain days and small gate. Was looking at this machine just for those reason. I was looking at a belt but from everything I have heard about belt driven everyone is saying same thing not good in the rain. Great video Dan thank you
Exactly! Pizza Cutter Tires. Small Zero Turn Riders like 36-38 and 40 inch are really bad with the weight to thin tire ratio. I had a 32, it is hard to use in wet conditions but still an awesome sized mower
I bought a used xmark metro 36 inch in Maryland from liberty discount power Equipment I like it I would like a 36 inch turf tracer but not in my budget
Yes, after further research… I did find that to be the case, however, eXmark and Toro have nothing to do with each other’s manufacturing. It’s more of just a financial arrangement.
I do pressure cleaning and have been for years and of course it slows up in the summertime so I was thinking about getting into the lawn business and doing both of them in your opinion do you think I can make a living in the summertime charging 40 and $50 a month and cutting biweekly and cutting loose of my full-time job
Hey Dan, any reason you didn't go with a 36 stander? The walk behinds for me are just too much walking, with weed wacking and blowing on top of cutting. After a full day of cutting all that walking was killing me. After I bough the stander, it was night and day as far as how I felt at the end of the day.. I would never go back
Too heavy for our always wet conditions, too expensive for it still only cutting 36 inches, way too difficult to rescue yourself if broke down in a yard, can’t change blades without a jack or a lift, Velke is only a few hundred if I need to ride a lawn or 2 here and there. Other than that, ya I like standers too! 😂😂😂😂
Thanks Dan.. Great review.. I am glad you have such a great mower. I have looked at the same Turf tracer you have there. I like it, but a big guy like me, on a sulky, mowing (or mulching) the tall thick grass I have to mow. I would feel so much better if Exmark gave the buyer an option for a stronger engine. I think yours has a FS481.. I would have to have either a Kaw FS541 or FS600 to consider a Turf tracer for me.
What about slopes? I have to mow these crazy slopes and use an old 36" belt drive. I never use the brakes, instead I am using the belts to manage kind of like holding a stick shift car in place at a stop using the clutch to keep from rolling back. With hydros it seems I would be going from power to reverse to stop to power and tearing up the grass instead of just gently slipping the belt and pulling the grip while letting the mower roll back more on one side to change direction. I keep caster wheels facing north.
I'm looking to start my side hustle and your videos are providing a wealth of great information. I still have a lot of them to get through and if you have addressed the question I'm about to ask, my apologies. As far as mowers, you go use a walk behind but i see lots of people using zero turn. If i'm looking at doing 1/2 acres or less, can you tell me the pros and cons of each. Thanks in advance and keep posting these great vids!
I'm starting my own and for residential a walk behind is the best to start with. You can do anything like hills, a 36 you can fit in most gates, they go almost as fast as a 0 turn. Just get a sauki which is the wheel you stand on and you can get stuff done fast. Also they're lighter so less of a chance of tearing yards up. I work for a bigger company and I use a 52 xmark walk behind and the thing is a beast and holds hills awesome.
When you buy a mower what does the hours mean and the value to the mower when it mention x amount of hours. Is it like a car with mileage the higher it is the valuable it is. What is high hours compared to mileage?
Dan, I wanted to say "Thank You!!!". I've been following your channel for a while. This is my first comment as I usually watch UA-cam on my fire tv. Now that we are all quarantined, I'm teaching PE behind a computer screen. I am an elementary PE teacher in MD, as my main gig. I have been using an Exmark Metro 36" belt drive for over 20 years for my side hustle.. I have been thinking of a hydro for a while now. I frequently watch your videos I don't know how many times. My wife often will say, "didn't you already watch that, many times?" I always find new things by watching over again. She says, "how many people like to watch cutting grass?" I tell her, "you'd be surprised!" Anyways, I demoed the JD W36R. nice mower, but a bit touchy on the controls. The tires seemed pizza cutter-ish. And there is no grass flap available for it, so its side discharge or mulch. I want to try the OCDC this go around. This morning I demoed the TT36. I was in love. Not as touchy as the JD. The only downside to the Exmark is the price, but I think you get what you pay for and my dealer said $5999. Sold! Keep up the good work! I never get bored with your videos.
I'm in the market for a turf tracer. I have belt drive Prolines now with the SFS deck and after demoing a turf tracer I'm just hoping to roll over profit to get an exmark used.
Have a Metro 36 with the Trivantage deck. Fantastic mower, mulches well and the FS481V (16 hp variant) never bogs unless I'm mulching thick wet grass, and even then, it's not by much. Even if I upgrade, I don't think I'll ever be able to part ways with it lol
A couple times a year I go through my library which is rather large, I was approaching 600 videos recently and I delete videos with very low view count that don’t necessarily follow the genre of my channel. Sometimes I throw videos out just to see what the audience likes I let them hang on my channel for a while and then like I said, a couple times a year I’ll go through and delete videos that aren’t performing well in order to keep my channel efficient for people wanting good information
Appreciate the video Dan. Being that this is so new you most likely won’t have any break downs. That said if you do what is your backup plan? I do 15 yards a week part time and have been running a Ferris 400s 48”’. As of today it’s in the shop so I’m shopping for a second mower and thinking this one.
The other thing with the grips on the eXmark is with the handles being more vertical, they are more ergonomic and easier on your wrists by a long shot. It is a good design.
Most engines run at 1100 - 3600 RPM . PULLEY diameter being the same on clutch and spindle will be same as engine rpm ! Jet engines run at 18,000 plus RPM
Dan love your videos! I need your recommendation. Starting a small residential lawn biz in TX. My 21in Troybuilt is crap. My budget for mower is 1-2k. Should I get a 21in Honda or Exmark? What about a 30in Exmark? or would it just be better to save my money down the line and get a nice 32-36in walk behind? I appreciate your feedback man. Thanks!
It would be interesting to find... Maybe someone can find the actual date Toro bought out eXmark? This is what I found on eXmark's website: They are staying quiet about being bought out LOL... "Exmark Manufacturing was incorporated in May 1982 as an independent manufacturer of professional turf care equipment. The company began its manufacturing operation with seven employees in a garage-type building located just south of Beatrice, Nebraska. In 1983, the company relocated to its present location in the Gage County Industrial Park in Beatrice. At that time, the company focused on manufacturing a line of mid-size walk-behind mowers and turf rakes. In 1987, due to the rapidly growing turf care equipment market and the competitive nature of that market, the product line was expanded to include commercial riding mowers. Exmark sells its products through a network of dealers."
I demo'd a Wright WB before I decided on my Exmark 48. The price of the Exmark was the reason why and the difference in build quality was the same, in fact I'd give the nod to the Wright in some ways, but....The Wright speed for the transmission is not infinite, it's like gear detents, on a hydro machine. Absolutely but Exmark has so many patents on their control design no one can touch the ease of use and comfort, for now. 16 and just picked the same model from 05 and I love it great review
Thank you
In my motocross days we used to use hair spray to secure grips. Just spray the handle and slip on, it will stay for a long time.
Ya I did that in my younger years as well
Love my turf tracer 36. I definitely recommend adding on the mulch kit, and sulky.
Thank you

what OCDC are you using ?
I have quite a few videos talking about that. I don’t remember off the top of my head.
This mower is almost the size of a TORO DINGO HMM!
Scag products are fabricated at Metalcraft of Mayville, Inc., one of the largest independently owned manufacturers of commercial power equipment in North America.
What a load of tosh , belt drive all day long easy basic design , easy onsite problem solving .
Bike shops use hair spray to install grips. It lubricates when wet and grips when dry. It might work for your slipping grip issue.
I used to do that as well! Great technique
I think the new John Deers have the ecs controls also.
Sweet!
Ya know… when I click on a review on UA-cam, this is what I expect. Nice work Dan! And thanks 🙏🏾
Just ordered one today so I can get in these tiny gates in the subdivisions around me, hope it serves me well cause I'm tired of wasting time push mowing.

I have the wright 32”. It’s rear tire is a little too narrow. It can put ruts in damp ground. But I love walk behinds.

Exmark is made by Toro
Sort of. It’s like saying Lexus is made by Toyota. It isn’t as black and white as just making a blanket statement.

Yes they did BUT Toro and eXmark have nothing to do with each other's manufacturing.
Dan's Vlog yeah true

Looks like it's hardly been used. Very clean!
Not gonna lie... Washed it prior to the recording of the video!

I am really interested in this mower!...Great review Dan!
Exmark is owned by Toro.
That’s what I learned but I also learned they have nothing in common as far as parts and design
Oh I see I'm getting that new Scag 30" when it comes out that's sweet.
Toro time master and exmark commercial 30 literally share parts. Belts, pulleys, etc
I do pressure cleaning and have been for years and of course it slows up in the summertime so I was thinking about getting into the lawn business and doing both of them in your opinion do you think I can make a living in the summertime charging 40 and $50 a month and cutting biweekly and cutting loose of my full-time job

Get a bigger deck
Great video. Keep up the good work. Nice mower, I have this exact same mower. It was my first commercial mower. couldn't be happier with the purchase
On this model are you able to connect the ride on step and if so would you ever use it?
Yes it is available. Yes if I mowed full time all day every day. I do this part time, so walking is therapeutic
Enjoy my turf tracer 36 "
Dancing on the grass !
They are nice machines
What about slopes? I have to mow these crazy slopes and use an old 36" belt drive. Anything you can do with a belt drive, you can do far easier and more efficiently with a Hydro.

Not at this time.
Wow man 100 hours in a year that's almost brand new you haven't used it much as I can see in a year looks great.

The more hours, the less valuable it is for resale but the more you can show it's dependability
Did you sell the 36” when you quit side hustling, or do you use it on your own lawn?
What was the tallest, most over grown cut you've done with the Turf Tracer? What's your thoughts on how it performed?
